Just wanted to share my experiences regarding making reservations for MLG Orlando 2011 at the Gaylord Palms. Hopefully this will be useful for anyone planning to stay there.
The group rate listed on MLG's website is $146/night. No group code is provided, so the reservations must be made over the phone. When I called initially they charged me an additional $40/night high-occupancy fee since I told them four adults would be staying there. After checking MLG's website and seeing that the group rate covers single/double/triple/quad, I called back and they admitted they had made a mistake and promptly fixed it (confirmed by talking to the "Group Coordinator" of the hotel).
Things to note when making a reservation at the Gaylord Palms for MLG:
- The rate is $146+room tax/night (for up to 4 adults)
- The room tax is 14%
- They take a credit card deposit equal to the first night's rate + room tax ($166.44)
- This is completely refunded if the reservation is cancelled
- Reservations must be cancelled 72 hours in advance
- There is a $13+sales tax/day self-parking fee
- There is a $15/night resort fee
Total cost per night: $166.44 (room+tax) + $15 (resort fee) = $181.44
Parking fee per day: $13.91 (parking+sales tax)
Cost of attending entire event (Friday-Sunday) (2 nights + 3 days parking): $404.61
Cost of attending the last two days (Saturday-Sunday) (1 night + 2 days parking): $209.26
None of these costs include the price of the MLG pass, which if history serves, should be $25 for the entire weekend. Also, this is a very nice hotel, so food/alcohol will not be cheap. Budget accordingly.
Please let me know if you have any questions/comments/corrections regarding the information above.
Edit: Comment from BroboCop - Booking the hotel through a large company can potentially yield cheaper prices. So, if you have a connection (self, friend, family member) that works at a large company, you could possibly get a better rate. If anyone accomplishes this, please post about it.

The prices listed here seem a little expensive compared to previous trips(To Disney) I have made to Orlando. This being said, I am sure this is a very nice hotel and will fit the needs for some but not all. Seeing as how Orlando is an extremely heavy resort town housing many amusement parks, there is a huge chance that you can find a much cheaper room to stay in for the three days of the event with ease. Shopping around will probably be your best bet, and try things like Econo Lodge or Best Western(more mainstream hotels) to get the best deals.

is the hotelname for real?

^ lol i was wondering how long it would take before a post about the hotel name was mentioned.

ESEA league, each finals gets a hotel they want all the players to stay at and they give a code out. It is a fair hotel not very lavished but costs only $60 a night for two queen beds. Able to fit 4 adults easily. MLG seems very high priced as if they are charging a premium.

It's worth noting that the price of a room during MLG without the group rate is $239/night. Of course that price is through the hotel's website, so I'm sure better deals exist. Given that, I think that MLG got a pretty decent discount for its attendees. Though they certainly could have chosen a cheaper venue, this is definitely one of the nicest hotel/convention center combinations in Orlando.

Gaylord Palm.... hahahaha that's just epic....

man all this in addition to airfare =\

Wouldn't it be cheaper to stay at the embassy suites? Cheaper rooms, might be further away from the venue but could be worth it. Actually.. I think it should be closer if the venue is where most of the normal conventions are. Wish I could go this year but i'm only moving back in December .
Just an ex-Floridians 2 cents ;D.

There's a Howard Johnson less than 5 minutes away and that's about $45/night (not sure if there are any fees in addition to that). As stated previously, the event is not at the Orange County Convention Center (the place that nearly all large conventions in central Florida take place), but rather at the hotel itself.
I'll be staying at the Palms because 1) I like nice hotels and 2) I want to be able to hang out at MLG as late as I want, drink as much as I want, and just walk to my room when I'm ready to sleep. We're splitting it 4 ways so it isn't breaking the bank, but yeah, there are definitely cheaper options within a reasonable distance.

if the op is reading this, you may want to add it.
for people who have parents that work at very large companies for example: IBM, Cisco, etc, etc. Have your parents use their work discount it is MUCH cheaper than the MLG rate, which is already cheaper than the conventional rate. I payed $90 a night for the crowne plaza in downtown dallas for MLG dallas.
As the for the gaylord resorts, like other people in the thread mentioned, they are fucking huge--there is one in grapevine (near dallas) and it absolutely ridiculously huge.

I've added your tip to the bottom of the post. Hopefully if anyone's successful in getting a better rate they will post it so we know what's possible.
For anyone having worries about the hotel they chose, keep in mind that they successfully held MLG 2009 and 2010 there. It's safe to say that it wouldn't be a good idea to introduce any new unknowns to their event since it got off to such a rocky start this year.
