Liquipedia Weekly #17
Now with flashy coins
Happy Thursday to you all!
You may have noticed a new addition to TeamLiquid in the past few days. Liquipedia is proud to announce that we've finally
You were probably curious about what these coins were and used your 300 APM (no spam right!) to frantically click the coins hoping they would do a trick for you. Sadly, these aren't jumping coins or coins that flash pretty colors but they still do something important.
Making edits on Liquipedia is one of the most thankless jobs on the site. Your edits on Liquipedia are not like posts on the forums where you can easily track down who has posted what and articles are the combination of multiple contributions to Liquipedia. To reflect the hard work people do on Liquipedia we have decided to give contributors to Liquipedia special coins to represent the amount of work they have done on Liquipedia.
Essentially, these coins are to Liquipedia what the unit icons (or otherwise, if you're someone special) are to TeamLiquid. The premise is quite simple. Do stuff on Liquipedia. Sometimes your coins will change.
This is the only guy besides Mr. Potter who knows how they really work
Usually we like to keep these things secret. You'll never (or maybe eventually) know. Or maybe you will (won't). We do(n't) know. And we are(n't) telling.
Okay, fine. Since you won't stop pestering us, here's the deal ...
Where k1 and k2 are weighting factors, n is the number of edits, a and N being constants, f and F are functions based of the number of characters altered, P a linear functional and of course the integrals are Lebesgue. For obvious reasons the calculation is done in base 391.
But never mind how they are calculated, here are the important facts for you to know:
- The rating is calculated using both the number of edits and the length of the edits
- Edits are counted from both the Brood War section and the StarCraft 2 section
- The coins are ordered by color (bronze, silver, gold etc) then number of coins
- People with more coins are pretty awesome people and deserve free beer if you meet them IRL
You may have some additional questions about how these little guys work. To save some time, here is a brief FAQ:
Why don't my coins display in all forums?
The coins will not show in forums where team icons are displayed. This will be fixed at some point in the future where you will have a profile option to display the coins always, or never, or sometimes.
What is the highest coin level?
Only R1CH and the flying monkeys know. We know there exists at least a Gold Coin. How many beyond that is something we can only speculate about.
Can I see a Top X Ranking list?
We'd prefer to keep that under wraps for the time being. We might re-evaluate whether to display this list or not at a later date. However, for your convenience we have a list of the Top 1 ranked contributor:
- 1. Aesop
Why can't I automatically Tweet/Facebook people about me ranking up!
Do it yourself - you have 300 APM right?
And finally, the Liquipedia team wants to thank the following helpers:
Idea and Emotional Support - Plexa, Nazgul
Graphics - jhNz, disciple
Coding - SonuvBob, R1CH
Your princess is in another castle,
- Liquipedia staff
