INTRODUCTION After watching the North Americans and Europeans enjoy several open events (or even just more events than us in general) I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands and start a weekly open tournament for the South East Asian server.
Updates will be provided at http://sc2.yyz.com.au
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW - It’s an open tournament so all ranks are free to register - It will be held every Sunday @ 1PM AEST although the time may change at a later date depending on feedback from the players - A limit of 64 players is currently enforced but this will be removed in the future - A prize of $25 USD will be given to first place each week, via PayPal
Hopefully the prizes will increase moving forwards, but at this stage I’m putting the money up to generate some interest. If anyone out there wants to donate / sponsor please let me know at sc2@yyz.com.au
HOW TO PARTICIPATE At this stage sign-ups will be done via email until a website and automated sign-up system is completed.
You need to email sc2@yyz.com.au with the following information. Name & Character Code: Race: Bnet Email: Actual Email:
You will receive an email 25 hours prior to the start of the tournament asking you to confirm your place. Confirmation must occur before 12PM AEST of the tournament day or your place in the tournament will be forfeited.
If you register and do not confirm, or confirm and do not show up for the tournament, you will not be eligible to register the following week. Players who do this consistently will be barred from registering altogether.
TOURNAMENT RULES - SEA Open will run on a single-elimination system with the winner progressing through the bracket while the loser is eliminated ---> All rounds prior to the finals will be played best-of-one on a predetermined map ---> Matches within the top eight (i.e. quarter finals, semi finals and finals) will be played best-of-three using a map-veto system from the weekly pool - Disconnecting within a game counts as a loss, although the game can be replayed if both players agree. Finals games may be replayed if the admin feels the game was tied at disconnect. - Use of IRC is not mandatory but highly encouraged, as people on IRC are likely to be favoured in any disputes over unplayed matches - Observers are not permitted unless both players agree - A list of streamers will be posted each week – these players should be allowed into games regardless of whether players allow casual observers - Use of any cheats, hacks, illegal exploits or bugs will count as a default loss

SEA Open #1 (29 August)
Time Tournament will be held on Sunday 29 August at 1:00pm AEST.
It should translate to the following times (correct me if these are wrong): Indonesia / Thailand / Vietnam = 10:00am Malaysia / Philippines / Singapore = 11:00am
Map Pool The map pool for SEA Cup #1 will be as follows... Round of 64: Blistering Sands Round of 32: Metalopolis Round of 16: Xel'Naga Caverns Finals Pool: Desert Oasis, Steppes of War, Scrap Station, Delta Quadrant, Lost Temple
In the finals, each player alternate vetoes until one map is left remaining, this map will be the first map played. Once the first game has finished, the loser can choose the next map from the finals map pool (but cannot choose a map that was already played in that series).

Yeah, working on getting the IRC and stuff up at the moment. I'll update the main post as well as contact anyone who has registered with the IRC channel and stuff once it's up and running.
Also working on the the website.. It's just going to be a hosted blog for now. A little rough but it'll do!

Cool.
Good idea having it at this time too, nice time when nothing else is on.
|
|
Well given that I'm going to do a run through the inbox for signups, I would really suggest signing up or I might forget ><
|
|
Nice job
One suggestion is dump Desert Oasis
|
how long is this going to last? will the week's tournament be determined in one day? As in you finish the tournament from Saturday.
|
deL - Sure thing, I'll do this when I can.. I was playing around with the current blog (until I can get some form of tournament system going) but got frustrated at the paragraphing and went to play some SC2 to relieve my frustrations.
Luoson - I thought about dumping Desert Oasis because I really hate the map although I think it will be interesting to throw it in there.
If you're interested in how the maps were selected, I took the existing blizzard map pool and randomly assigned each map a number and ordered them.
First 3 maps were used for the BO1 rounds Next 5 maps were used for the Final Rounds
It meant that one map (in this case, Kulas Ravine) was completely excluded.
nytelynx - Each tournament will last one day, and I estimate the first tournament (capped at 64) to last less than five hours. I've been toying with the idea of an invitational every so often, where the winners (or perhaps based on ranking in each tournament) is invited to play. With that said however, each Sunday is distinct from the next.

Can you take desert oasis out of the map pool, really. Do i even need to say this -_-;;
|
Kulas Ravine > Delta Quadrant.
Kulas Ravine > Desert Oasis.
=[
|
Signing up...but I don't know how!
Protoss.

wat domo said.

The easiest site to generate a bracket and so on on that I have used is challonge. Just in case you wanted hints on sites with bracket generation.
|
DO, are you kidding me...
|
Kinetic, DoMo, Youngminii - I want to have a map rotation where a few maps (or in this case a map) is not played each week, so that every week features slightly different maps in a different order. It's way too boring if every week is the same. Also note that Desert Oasis at this stage is in the finals map bracket, so a player has to choose it before it is played. It will not be changed this week. Option B is to suggest some maps to replace Desert Oasis, but really I prefer DO over Crossfire.
zaney - Got your email and responded, see for more details!
Yurie - Thanks for your comment, I've had challonge suggested by a few people so I will probably use that for this tournament, but we'll see.

Whichever you choose, make sure that you can use the find function on a browser to locate your name... It's just a nightmare to scroll down hundreds of names trying to look for your match.

I've updated the website http://sc2.yyz.com.au and registered an IRC channel. #SEA-Open on irc.quakenet.org
