We're hosting an MSL Finals Party again, and this time it's not ZvZ involving Kwanro, so all the people who didn't come because of that last time have no excuse!
Come watch Flash vs. Jaedong on a 100" projector screen, in the company of your fellow Starcraft fans, with beer and snacks. You were going to watch it anyway, so it's not like you're doing anything else! =D
DETAILS:
Date/Time: Saturday, January 23, 3PM Start (MSL Games start at 7) Location, location, location: 29 Narong Road, Caulfield North. (NOT 26. 29. THIS IS IMPORTANT.) We'll provide: Some snack foods, possibly a limited amount of beer and some sausages for more substantial, non-pizza eating. We'd Appreciate You Bringing: Money to chip in for pizza, some more snack foods/drinks, additional beer if you're planning on drinking a lot. Additional computers are also particularly appreciated as we would like to expand the LAN gaming element of the party!
DIRECTIONS:
From the West, By Car: Dandenong Road/Princes Highway cuts rather close to the place, which is located between Kooyong and Hawthorn Roads. Both Kooyong and Hawthorn Road intersect with Narong Road, where the party is, so exit around there.
From the East, By Car: Take The Dandenong Road/Princes Highway West, exit Kooyong or Hawthorn Road, go south.
By Train: Get to Malvern Station, from which it is a fairly short walk.
By Tram: The 5, 16, and 64 trams all stop within walking distance of the party. These trams can all be caught from Flinders Street Railway Station (though from there, the train's probably faster). The 16 is probably best avoided because it takes a pretty circuitous route and a long time to get anywhere.
Again, use the "get directions" feature on Google Maps to get relevant directions for the route you are taking.
OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF:
House rules in effect: Smoke outdoors, don't break stuff, don't be a douche.
If you need more information, let me know and I'll get that to you.
If you are planning to/going to attend, let me know so that I'll know how much stuff I'll need to buy, either by posting in this thread or by Private Message.
Cheers, everyone, hope to see you there,
Mike (Imagist)

I'll put it on TeamAus tomorrow :3 and drop a link next SoO thread.
Would be good for you guys to get a nice turn out - us Sydneysiders might get sick of holding NaDa and progamer visits over you for so long!

can someone give me a brief description of the atmosphere during these OSL/MSL parties coz seems like to me its just a bunch internet blokes who dont know each other gather around for a night of starcraft with some food and snacks........... is it like ultra awkward? and what happens when a mega douche is present at the party is there a bouncer ready to pulverize any hoons
just some curious questions
|
unionbank: Your questions actually tie in to why I keep having these things. I'll give my take, and anyone else who's attended is welcome to chip in their 2 cents as well.
A mega-douche has never shown up to one of these (so don't be the first). The local crowd has been friendly and pleasant, and the people who have attended these parties doubly so, which is the main reason I keep organizing them and my friend keeps hosting them. There's no bouncer, but usually enough people on hand to physically throw out any really troublesome person (which we hope it never comes to. I'm not aware of any hoons being huge Starcraft fanatics).
Atmosphere-wise, there's always some talking going on. People might be a bit timid at first, but we've always got a newb or two on hand that we explain details to, or have theorycrafting discussions, or predict things, and suddenly everyone's fairly animated. There's LAN play. There's occasionally commentary. There's even a broader sense of community.
If you come, I'm not guaranteeing you'll enjoy it, but with an open mind to the idea and some openness to the people there, you've got a good chance.

I will probably be there depending on whether or not my fiance insists I stay home to help with wedding planning!

It probably won't be that awkward - I recently met like 6-7 TL guys at the progamer meetup in Sydney for ~2 hours and everyone got along pretty instantly and it wasn't awkward at all. Will admit that Melbournians may be a little nerdier though.

I will be there for sure! I'm glad there is a MSL party rather than OSL. I can only see this turning out well.
I'm from Canada and got to Melbourne 2 weeks ago after travelling south east Asia/China/Korea so meeting some TLers would be sweet. Look forward to it!

Wish someone would do this in brisbane, my internet is too unreliable...

Surely it will be whatever you make it Certainly I'd expect there'll be a wide range of personalities if enough people are there. I'm sure it will be good!
