We're hosting an MSL Finals Party again, and this time it's not ZvZ involving Kwanro, so all the people who didn't come because of that last time have no excuse!
Come watch Flash vs. Jaedong on a 100" projector screen, in the company of your fellow Starcraft fans, with beer and snacks. You were going to watch it anyway, so it's not like you're doing anything else! =D
DETAILS:
Date/Time: Saturday, January 23, 3PM Start (MSL Games start at 7) Location, location, location: 29 Narong Road, Caulfield North. (NOT 26. 29. THIS IS IMPORTANT.) We'll provide: Some snack foods, possibly a limited amount of beer and some sausages for more substantial, non-pizza eating. We'd Appreciate You Bringing: Money to chip in for pizza, some more snack foods/drinks, additional beer if you're planning on drinking a lot. Additional computers are also particularly appreciated as we would like to expand the LAN gaming element of the party!
DIRECTIONS:
From the West, By Car: Dandenong Road/Princes Highway cuts rather close to the place, which is located between Kooyong and Hawthorn Roads. Both Kooyong and Hawthorn Road intersect with Narong Road, where the party is, so exit around there.
From the East, By Car: Take The Dandenong Road/Princes Highway West, exit Kooyong or Hawthorn Road, go south.
By Train: Get to Malvern Station, from which it is a fairly short walk.
By Tram: The 5, 16, and 64 trams all stop within walking distance of the party. These trams can all be caught from Flinders Street Railway Station (though from there, the train's probably faster). The 16 is probably best avoided because it takes a pretty circuitous route and a long time to get anywhere.
Again, use the "get directions" feature on Google Maps to get relevant directions for the route you are taking.
OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF:
House rules in effect: Smoke outdoors, don't break stuff, don't be a douche.
If you need more information, let me know and I'll get that to you.
If you are planning to/going to attend, let me know so that I'll know how much stuff I'll need to buy, either by posting in this thread or by Private Message.
Cheers, everyone, hope to see you there,
Mike (Imagist)
Special P.S. note for DeL: Please feel free to promote this!

I'll put it on TeamAus tomorrow :3 and drop a link next SoO thread.
Would be good for you guys to get a nice turn out - us Sydneysiders might get sick of holding NaDa and progamer visits over you for so long!

can someone give me a brief description of the atmosphere during these OSL/MSL parties coz seems like to me its just a bunch internet blokes who dont know each other gather around for a night of starcraft with some food and snacks........... is it like ultra awkward? and what happens when a mega douche is present at the party is there a bouncer ready to pulverize any hoons
just some curious questions
|
unionbank: Your questions actually tie in to why I keep having these things. I'll give my take, and anyone else who's attended is welcome to chip in their 2 cents as well.
A mega-douche has never shown up to one of these (so don't be the first). The local crowd has been friendly and pleasant, and the people who have attended these parties doubly so, which is the main reason I keep organizing them and my friend keeps hosting them. There's no bouncer, but usually enough people on hand to physically throw out any really troublesome person (which we hope it never comes to. I'm not aware of any hoons being huge Starcraft fanatics).
Atmosphere-wise, there's always some talking going on. People might be a bit timid at first, but we've always got a newb or two on hand that we explain details to, or have theorycrafting discussions, or predict things, and suddenly everyone's fairly animated. There's LAN play. There's occasionally commentary. There's even a broader sense of community.
If you come, I'm not guaranteeing you'll enjoy it, but with an open mind to the idea and some openness to the people there, you've got a good chance.

I will probably be there depending on whether or not my fiance insists I stay home to help with wedding planning!

Did you explain to her how it's FLASH VS JAEDONG?

It probably won't be that awkward - I recently met like 6-7 TL guys at the progamer meetup in Sydney for ~2 hours and everyone got along pretty instantly and it wasn't awkward at all. Will admit that Melbournians may be a little nerdier though.
|
I will be there for sure! I'm glad there is a MSL party rather than OSL. I can only see this turning out well.
I'm from Canada and got to Melbourne 2 weeks ago after travelling south east Asia/China/Korea so meeting some TLers would be sweet. Look forward to it!
|
Wish someone would do this in brisbane, my internet is too unreliable...

Surely it will be whatever you make it Certainly I'd expect there'll be a wide range of personalities if enough people are there. I'm sure it will be good!

T.T where's pachi and swedishdude
|
this thread taught me a new word: hoon
haha aussies are awesome i'll use that word all the time now
|
This sounds awesome! I'm so there!
Oh yeah and thanks mate for hosting this. I shall bring a few beers and a comp (hopefully nobody will do anything stupid on it, its like my pride and joy haha).
|
pangshai: No word from pachi yet, and our Swedish friend is already book touring the Great Ocean Road that weekend.
FantomX: I'm from Canada too. We'll party and have a wide-ranging discussion about maple syrup.
|
|
|
deL: We have better. We have maple-flavored whiskey, and it is glorious. Link. Some Canadian microbreweries do maple flavoured beer, and I've never been particularly impressed by them.

Whiskeys are an abomination I only drink Scotch whisky. However, maple syrup infused whiskeys I might make an exception for xD
|
I'm not the most frequent rye whiskey drinker (that's what most Canadian whiskey is), but that one is pretty great.
I'm something of a Lagavulin man, as whiskeys go.
|
lol maple syrup whiskey - awesome
Why aren't you hosting some mega party in sydney del? I'll personally be watching with our nada/hero players - sotanath and sanchez (and maybe another friend or 2 if they come)
One of us from sydney really should organise something one of these days.... brisbane and melbourne parties make me jealous. And how cool does the canadian party sound?
|
I will only be in Sydney from Feb. 1st for now I am in Canberra.
|
oh that's right, you're from canberra. Well hopefully the community continues to grow of itself. At least sc2 will likely create one.
|
So yeah any news on the 3pm start. I would be up for some SC lan (seeing as i hardly ever get the opportunity, only ICCUP )
|
I'll be there guys unless anything comes up. Will bring me PC along with me too.
|
I envy you getting to meet DANCERS
|
About the start time: Nevermind, it's 3PM.

It's like I never left!
I miss my Wiser's, really can't go wrong though with any Canadian Whiskey (unless it's the bad stuff)
I imagine wearing SC apparal is encouraged, no?

If you've got pro-team apparel or a The Handsome Nerd t-shirt, flaunt it!

Swedishdude is away on roadtrip to great ocean road! :| Would've been there 100% otherwise. Pachi is hiding!

Confirming the start time for 3PM. You've been silent about it, and this my co-host demands. Editing OP accordingly.

This is basically my only plans for the entire week/end, i need to find a job....

Your job is to organise the next TL event. Let's go. Be creative. Australia Day BBQ, TSL Sleepover or Winner's League pyjama party.
|
Going to send some reminder/harassment PMs later. I'd like to get people like Hyde/hide.x/pred/others I can't immediately remember out to this.
|
I imagine bring a friend is cool? I met this korean guy at the pc bong where he worked and have watched a few matches as well as the OSL final with him there. I don't know if he will but just checking
|
Bringing a friend is cool as long as your friend smokes outside, doesn't break anything, and isn't a douche.
|
EXTRA CO-HOST REQUEST: Anyone who brings 1 Wii controller will be showered with praise and given the first crack at a diversionary game of Muscle March.

From my experience it's absolutely not "ultra awkward". Sure there's a bit of introducing yourself and "what do you do" (mainly refing to what SC race you play) but as soon as the games begin nothing else matters. Believe me, you'll make some friends going to this.
|
Hey, just talked to my friend. He says he can make it, so me +1 I suppose.
|
24 hours to the party, it is time for you "MAYBE ATTENDING" people to figure your stuff out and tell me whether you're coming or not!

As long as you're willing to follow the house-rules, then yes!

Scaramanga is too scared to show his face because he doesn't want anyone to see his tears when Flash gets ripped apart.

Yes and yes. As mentioned in the first post, my name is Mike, and there will be introductions done in the early going.

Have fun guys. I'd be there if I lived in Melbourne but I'm too lazy to make the 2 hour each-way drive from Bendigo.

Clarifying point: It is 29 Narong Rd, #1. It is the gigantic house.

Yah rub it in rich boy
BTW guys how is it going? For us not blessed with the chance to live in Melbourne you should provide some updates now and then to brag about your festivities n_n
|
PARTY UPDATE #1:
The house, while big, is a throwback to the 70s. I don't actually live here, my friend who owns the projector and digs watching Starcraft graciously lets me host events here.
People have started to arrive, though more people than had initially indicated are arriving late. A drink run is in progress and LAN play is about to kick off.
|
I'm really sorry i have to do this at the last second but I can't come LOL megasadface
|
P.S. I probably could've avoided this if i knew about the event with more notice
|
I announced this within 48 hours of when the event date was announced - I don't know how much more notice you would have wanted.
PARTY UPDATE #2: LAN play so far has established that DancerS_AU is probably the top dog present at the moment. Replays of some of our games will go up later (watch me fail to make anything of a 4-pool!)
|

Like people wanted a forum admin dampening everyone's buzz anyway.
|
Who needs a forum admin when we have delays and controversy...
PEOPLE WHO SHOWED UP: Somebody left a black and grey striped shirt behind. Was it you? Let me know so you can get it back.
Photos and replays to come.
Thanks to everyone who came out!

Thats my jacket, no wonder why i felt so cold after i left the house without noticed about it ^^, can i have it back somehow plz Mike? Thanks for hosting this event, it was fun and good experience to know such good players (all of you guys).
|
So I caved and ended up at the 24/7 internet cafe. Here goes 8 hours of solid gaming, maybe I will refine my counter to 4-pool hahaha.
Thanks for having me, although it was shitty about game 3 it was still a great time. It is nice being able to talk about SC without someone saying "dude, I have no idea, nor do I care about some fucking video game being played in Korea"
|

I got lost in kew. Finally got home.
|
pachi: way to survive those mean streets.
hyksos87: I didn't bring it with me but I can get it back from Fiachna on Monday night. It'd just be a matter of co-ordinating to meet up in the city so I can hand it back to you.
EVERYONE: Stay tuned for future events, the next one I put together will not be a pro game viewing, but a LAN cafe outing followed by Korean Barbeque (or that, in the opposite order).
|
hyksos87, I PMed you about your jacket and never heard back. If you're reading, check for that.
