I can't speak for Oktyabr, but what disappoints me about Coca's behavior is not that it is somehow intrinsically wrong to leave a game when you are ahead, but rather that it is wrong to do anything other than your best if you are a self-described professional player in a sponsored tournament setting. As a professional, one has an ethical duty to one's fans, one's team, and one's tournament to do the best one possibly can. For a professional player to intentionally lose a game in order to take the tournament to the third round (for any reason) is a highly unprofessional act. It is this lack of professionalism (rather than some moral claim) that is most disappointing about this entire incident.

Coca happened to be on Boxer's team, and guess what does Boxer advocate? He doesn't know where to draw the line, because he never came close to it to begin with. Why are you even blaming Koreans for despising such shady behavior when their culture took the biggest hit from it? Of course I'd agree that the punishment wouldn't make any sense outside of Korea. It is the context here that matters.

[EDIT] - Completely mis-read your post - sorry! I'd still say that Coca's motivation is almost entirely unimportant - the fact is he behaved in an unprofessional manner, and is paying the price. Professional behavior has absolutely nothing to do with one's ethnic or cultural background - both Korean and foreigner progamers deserve to be held to the exact same professional standards. I would expect a foreigner who behaved similarly to be similarly penalized.

I am worried for NesTea in all honesty. Coca is young as well as Byun and I'm sure they didn't realize the severity of what they're getting into.

NesTea on the other hand...

Maybe I'm ridiculous for thinking he's throw a few games, but for him to go from #1 Zerg in the world to Code A is ridiculous. You could've tossed a high diamond zerg in his position that game vs. HuK and he'd have won. Maybe he didn't throw games, I hope he didn't for the sake of his career and reputation.

I think it was put best in the words of my teacher (discussing something completely unrelated to this). If a 6 year old lies about something, it's not a big deal. If a 10 year old lies about something, it's worse but it's not unforgivable. If a 14 year old lies about the same thing, you'd expect him to get punished. Same goes on and on and on. I think this can be applied to this situation. If NesTea throws a match, you expect MUCH WORSE repercussions than someone like Coca who's young and didn't realize what he was doing completely (I think, that's what it seemed like from the screenshots/translations).

Best of luck to Coca and Byun, you're both excellent players and you'll definitely be forgiven I think. I hope that their reputations aren't forever trashed though

That's ridiculous. Nestea had a history of nerves and would have no reason to throw a series. Dont try to pull something out of nothing.

This stupid.. If coca would have thrown a game against a a teammate like when Boxer did it for MMA than he'd still be sitting pretty. This isn't fixing as it wasn't planned out.. it was obviously spur of the moment. What's wrong with a player dropping a game to play a game three which he obviously thought he'd win? Coca was like a fighter who was dominating his opponent so he showboats and shows his chin only to receive a crushing punch on the jaw.

Boxer is taking a huge dump on esport... and you crybabies are eating it up with smiles on your faces.

He probably meant at MLG Anaheim loser finals, for the Code S spot.

MMA, marinekingprime, boxer, Nada, Rainbow have all gone down to code A. Keeping your code S stop is becoming much much harder with the rules changes to code S. To think these good players are throwing games instead of simply losing them is ignorant.

edit: add fruitdealer and zenio to that list too.

You do realize that people cannot always be dominant forever? As good as Nestea, MVP, or anyone else who is at the top right now is, they will eventually fall. I am in no way saying that Nestea's career is over and he is done, but that time will come. It could be now, it could be 3 years from now, but eventually these players will not be at the top. Also, Code S is hard. Making top 16 consistently is tough enough, but getting top 8 is even more so. Nestea isn't quite in Code A, he can still be Code S next season, but he is definitely not throwing matches like those for anyone's benefit.

Could these situations be avoided by redundant prizes automatically moving to the runner up? I haven't read up on the whole story but it was because of the code S/A spot going to the winner, but Coca was already in code S? In Dutch Football the winner of the cup gets a spot in the Eufa cup. If the winner of the cup also wins the championship they already have a ticket to the champions league and the Eufa ticket goes to the losing finalist fo the cup regardless.

Hmmm.. Boxer went against MVP and was beaten like a rented mule.. He's sent to the LB where he faces teammate MMA... if boxer was to win he'd then have to rematch MVP with extended.. He knew he had no chance, but for the thousands in attendance..and the millions watching around the world he put on a show. He's F'in Boxer, he won't just roll over, his "character" won't let him... He allowed MMA to win in order to accomplish two things. First, It would allow MMA to take on MVP for a chance of being back2back champ. Second, it would give MMA the Code S spot.. win or lose.

Well, who would benefit more from this.. Boxer might be decent in S, but MMA would be better. Throwing the match wouldn't be a bad thing.. Sure, Boxer is a gamer, but he's also a leader. He picked MMA and he knew what he could do. So he could either play to win which he'd have a chance(not against MVP, but would it have been what's best for the team? Or should he step to the side after engaging in friendly yet exciting games?

And I'm glad he did.. MVP did awesome in GSL. Better than Boxer could have wished for himself...

Are you mad because I threw dirty water on your hero? May I suggest a new hero?? Tim Tebow perhaps... Now that guy's a winner..

Pure speculation and very defamatory. You've ruled out the possibility of MMA beating Boxer comfortably entirely, and you still have zero evidence here.

So CoCa didn't forfeit his code S spot himself, SlayerS did. Which was pretty obvious by still.
