Guarantee leaving him alive at this point will come back to bite us down the road. We let him live today, and then he doesn't get night killed, we start questioning the fact as to why he is still alive, and Day3, we come up with "Should we lynch Toad now? VE had a red check and he's still alive," blah blah blah.

The thing to do now is decide whether VE is telling the truth. Evidence lends it to the fact that it is true. Day1, he claims Toad as a decent scum read for him, and then during the night, he checks him to see if he actually is scum. It comes back Guilty, he forms a case out of whatever he can and pushes it hard. Hard.
I'm going to believe this claim now, especially with overall actions and his previous breadcrumb.

Tough situation. I doubt the mafia would kill VE at night regardless of his roleclaim unless we lynch Toads. Why do that when they could waste the towns time by having us argue whether or not he's actually a DT? No one's going to believe that he's town on Day 3 if he doesn't die tonight. It makes more sense to lynch Toads. If he flips scum, it's a safe assumption that VE is a cop (but says nothing of sanity). At that point, the scum would kill VE. At best, he is a sane cop. At worst, he's a confirmed townie.
You also forgot to consider sanity. I can't tell if you're bad town or scum. Basing my judgement on what you've done I'm leaning scum. What a horrible attempt at saving VE.

I'll give you this VE. Your claim is a good move regardless of your alignment. If you are scum you may cause us to do a misslynch on Toad, and if you are town you might have saved yourself, at least for a day.
I do not agree that your claim came at a bad time, if you are infact town and you felt the need to claim, a claim sooner rather than later is better.
I still think you are scum though. But I am at least doubting myself more...

I have no clue what's going on anymore.
VE's DT claim seems so illegitimate that I have to assume there's an agenda behind it, the question is if it's town or mafia aligned. It's a wild gambit on a time when it isn't sure yet if he'll get lynched or not, so one would assume it doesn't make sense to claim right now by any means. So then, why the claim?
I need a viable reason why he'd post this, whether it's mafia or town, as I don't believe it's just mafia handing himself on a silver platter.

I have no idea what my sanity is. I'm independently suspicious of Toad, the check only confirms it for me. Obviously when Toad flips we'll know what my sanity is, but I think he'll flip scum and therefor I predict my sanity will come back sane given the information I have now.

Kill VE; no DT would claim D2 with a red check and claim he's "probably" sane because there's no way for any DT to know his own sanity before he gets 2-3 checks on FLIPPED players back. In other words if he were actually a DT the likelihood of him having an incorrect check on Toad is astronomical. If toad is actually green it could mean paranoia, framer, insanity, miller; four things a town DT would consider before claiming he is "probably" sane.
I just finished reading the entire block of 10 or so pages but honestly VE's reactions to everything have made this really easy.

Three possibilities here, given that you got a guilty check, from your personal PoV:
1) you're paranoid and toad is town or scum
2) you're insane and toad is town
3) you're sane and toad is scum
With no information about toad's alignment, there's only a 1/3rd chance you're sane. even if you say "well toad is scum" you could easily be a paranoid cop-- 50% chance. I don't think claiming here was the right move.
I think you knew that, and wouldn't claim.
