Our discussion of which maps to send to NASL was a serious one, and took each map with serious consideration and discussed all the pros and cons (we didn't just pick out 9 random maps, we hand-selected and discussed each one). We want to assure players, casters, and viewers alike that they are top quality and have been thoroughly tested. We appreciate all feedback, and we highly appreciate the continued support from players and viewers like yourselves!

We are toning down a bit and some of us are holding off on making new maps for two reasons mostly. The first reason is because HotS is around the corner and we are all anxious to use the new map editing features for it. The other reason is that currently for Wings of Liberty, melee maps are becoming too predictable with layout and texture usage. The only thing that "wow's" people is the aesthetic work. We want to wait until HotS comes out to begin producing more quality melee maps that will fit everybody's needs as well as the needs of the new units, which will be a big challenge. If we are to work on current projects before HotS, it will mostly be updating older maps. So in the meantime, don't expect much out of TPW! We're here, watching over you.

HotS isn't going to be out for at least another year, Browder did say "at next years Blizzcon, we'll have a more refined demo for you guys.." (Not word for word, but yea)

The other reason is that currently for Wings of Liberty, melee maps are becoming too predictable with layout I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean by this

If you put two maps together that are totally different that's one thing - but more than likely that expansion layout was already created months prior. While us map makers have to stay within the limits of what we can or can't do with expansions (concerning sc2 balance), it becomes gradually more difficult to integrate new expansion setups that make it more unique - something that hasn't been done yet. In short, if you make a map, or see a map that has a good layout, chances are that layout has been done before. We think HotS will present a different approach (even slightly) that may change how map layouts are created, so we're anticipating on that for the most part.

Tbh I don't agree with this attitude- a lot of maps are very similar, but that is all the more reason to make more maps that are unique. I know I am frustrated too at how hard it is to make really special maps like popular Brood War maps, but I am certain that it is possible in SC2 despite balance concerns. Especially considering SC2 has a ton more options in aesthetics and features than Brood War. I'll just keep trying until I figure it out. But good luck in HotS anyway! + Show Spoiler + I know one reason you could be wanting to wait until HotS is because it is so hard to get maps into tourments right, and it can be demotivating.
