www.360buy.com - It's in Chinese and the prices are in RMB. In the upper right hand corner it says 装机大师. Click that and it brings you to the parts selection where you can add the parts together

At that resolution you could only use like $600... I would suggest getting a new monitor with that budget as well, as 1280 is pretty bad graphics for gaming.

Here's a configuration for ¥4538 capable of playing all current and upcoming games on reasonably high settings at your 1280x1024 and will also be able to do 1080p decently for most games if you ever decide to upgrade your monitor.

Don't know much about Yeston so you should do some research about the brand and that particular model. Disregard what I said previously, it's a sale price so pricing makes sense. If it ends than get a Radeon HD5670 by ASUS: http://www.360buy.com/product/437840.html

Core i5 2400 @ ¥1499

Especially if you're sticking with lower-power cards, I highly recommend getting this power supply instead. It should be significantly better than the Corsair CX430 V2, and you don't need all that power anyway. I think they advertise it as 80 plus gold to 350W, but can be run at up to 450W at 80 plus silver levels.

Super Flower Golden Green Pro 350W - ¥399
http://www.360buy.com/product/373342.html

Review (note: some CapXon capacitors and worse build quality than the higher-wattage Golden Green, but it's not like this thing will ever see that much heat)
http://www.itocp.com/htmls/02/n-1602.html

Also considering the price difference I'd take the Core i5-2300 rather than the i5-2400. It's just 300 MHz slower, that's all.

Guys,
made my mind about the video card - will be a GTX580. However I am thorn between those two:

EVGA 015-P3-1580-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Car

vs

ZOTAC ZT-50101-10P GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Pretty much the same money wise..couldn't find any additional info to help decide between those two. Or maybe there is a better choice I missed. Any advice will be greatly apreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the thread. Just today I bought myself a Radeon HD 6950 1GB. Witcher 2 looks damn impressive, and SC2 can be run on full settings.

However, there are small stutterrings when I run a replay on fasterx2/4/8 settings. What could this cause? I am using 4GB Kingston HyperX RAM, just to inform you, so any chance it is about the RAM?

Also, Quad-Core AMD 2.2 GhZ processor.

Nope I'm using an HDD. I regularly defrag it and keep my files clean and organized (not sure if that helps, but I try to)

It happened with my old (5750 HD) too, so I don't think it's due to GPU.

Both are identical except for post sale support and warranty. EVGA offers lifetime warranty and superior support. Not to mention the card is less expensive.

Thank you very much,
1-----There is a shell shocker deal on newegg for Rosewill Green Series RG700-S12 700W with +12V@54A and 82% efficiency for 65$, do you think its a good deal since I want to use this case/power supply in future builds?
2----I had been looking at the 560 Ti's before you posted that build, and the 6870 seems to be too good at that price, but would it be the first bottle neck in the system 2 years from now?
3----I know I mentioned the Crucial M4 in my last post but if there are any better/price performance cards of that size, please enlighten me.
4----I will also be purchasing a monitor, I have been told that its better to go in person to purchase, but futureshop/best buy seem to be fucking overpriced. whats your advice?

EDIT:
5----Is this what I need to connect it to the router?
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=46255&vpn=C6PATCH50BK&manufacture=Startech.com Ltd

6----The shipping comes to 29$
If i add this:http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=62412&vpn=N8400GS-MD512H&manufacture=MSI%2FMicroStar&promoid=1307
I get 5$ shipping on the entire order, so would the card be worth 6$ (maybe for a HTPC or just trouble shooting?)

7-----Do you recommend insurance for shipping?

8---- This is my first assembly, do I need anything else? Paste? bays? (I know the case has a bay for the SSD) crazy screw drivers?

When people say that you should go and look at monitors in person they don't usually mean you have to buy it there. You go to check what screen you like and then you can order it from anywhere it's possible.

Yeah but you can go at it the other way around. Look at what monitors you think are interesting at NCIX and then look up stores that have them. Obviously I don't know where you live so I can't say how easy it is to find all models so that you have to decide for youself.

Otherwise you can just trust reviews and go by that (or potentially pay more in stores). It depends on how picky you are. Also some online stores I buy from have free shipping over a certain cost, usually below the cost of a monitor.

$65 isn't a great price for a Rosewill Green 700. Antec Earthwatts 650 and Antec High Current Gamer 620 are both higher quality units, provide similar amount of power, and can be had for less or at the same price. If you want to deal with mail in rebates, there's the XFX Core Edition 650 as well. I guess you figured this out already.

The bottleneck depends on what you are doing but for gaming, yes it will most likely be the graphics card.

Yes, you need an ethernet cable for the router but shouldn't you already have one?

If you want to pay $6 for a graphics card that may or may not see a use in the future than go ahead. I don't see much use for it when most HTPCs will be using Llano or Sandybridge. You're also getting a Z68 board so it's not going to be that helpful in troubleshooting, only purposes it would serve is for discovering a faulty PCI-E x16 slot or having multiple DOA cards.

Whether you pay for shipping insurance or not is your decision. Either pay 1.5% for a piece of mind or roll a dice and hopefully the courier doesn't accidently screw up. I don't pay for it if that's what you're wondering but I wouldn't recommend against it.

All you need is a phillips screwdriver. You may need to purchase / get an additional SATA cable since some lower end motherboards only provide two of these. Everything else is included with the components.

Futureshop and Bestbuy also offers pricematching so it's not like you can't buy something from them.

Purely gaming, sc2/d3 on decent settings/DotA2.

What is your upgrade cycle?

3-4 years

When do you plan on building it?

<month

Do you plan on overclocking?

Not if I can get by without it.

Do you need an Operating System?

No.

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

Not if I can do what I want without them.

Yeah, watching replays in faster time means that the CPU needs to compute more game action per second. SC2 is already enough of a CPU-intensive game to begin with. Your CPU can't keep up at the faster speeds. I'm guessing if it's an AMD quad core at 2.2 GHz it's a Phenom? Those are super slow compared to a current (Intel) dual core (with hyperthreading):

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/23?vs=289

Note the big difference in games.

Configuration capable of playing current and upcoming games on reasonably high settings at 1080p for $742 before mail in rebates. If you want to use more of your budget, alternatives are listed in spoilers, picking those instead would total to $864. There's not much you can do with such a large budget if you don't need an operating system and you don't want to overclock.

If you want to purchase from Newegg instead of a Canadian retailer than just add ~$100 to the total.

Since low-end motherboards usually only include two SATA cables, you're also need a SATA cable for the SSD if you don't have a spare one lying around somewhere: http://ncix.com/products/?sku=15994&promoid=1307
