Yes, pyro, because 99.9% of the human population settle for crappy quality.

We, 0.1%, on the other hand... do not.

Heen, I've posted this above too, different headphones have different technical specifications. There's a maximum volume of 80-120 dB in average. (of course there are some that can go over, some that can't get 80, etc, but usually, good headphones have somehwere between 100 and 120 dB max volume). If that's too low, then it's obvious you'll have to pump up the volume.

The other important specification is impedance (messured in ohms) which directly affects the volume of the headphones. Mid-range headphones (~100$) have impedances varying from 30 to 60 ohms, but the higher the impedance, the more juice they need, so a pair of hp with 30 ohms will not sound as loud as one with 60 on the same (portable) player. In-ear headphones have somewhere around 16 ohms impedance, while professional audiophile ones can go up to hundreds of ohms (Sennheiser HD650 - 300 ohm).

So that's why ear-plugs work for mp3 players and such, they don't use much battery power, they're resonably loud, and easy to carry around. However, you're paying for that with sound quality, but since it's usually mp3s anyway, nobody is complaining.

How are the bose tri-port in ear headphones? I have wanted to try a set for awhile. I also have a pair of Denon headphones, unbelievable, they should be for 400+ dollars though.

I hate the earphones that you plug deep into your ears like the ones pyro posted. They are fucking uncomfortable and comfort > when it comes to earphones.

I've gone through 4 pairs in the past 2 years I think -_-; but none of them were over $15 whew..

wtf the earphones that DONT go in ear are so fucking uncomfortable they suck shit so fucking bad cuz they're all hard and when you listen the vibrations go through your ears and after like 15 min it starts hurting

the in ear ones come with different sized earplugs so you can find one with perfect fit and well like 99.9% of the human population says that in ear > normal earphones

Thanks.
I'm assuming these specs are listed on the back of the package?

Earbuds > In-ear for life.

Even though in-ear is designed for more comfort, it tends to fall out more often. Not to mention it's harder to find one that fits you well so it doesn't backfire.

Hello, I'm looking to buy in-ear monitors for a good friend. We're trying to pitch in to buy something of the UM2 or Shure E5 caliber ($250 should be doable for us) but I'm not sure if there are any newer versions of them or even better ones out - can anyone recommend a good set of IEMs at that price range?

sorry if there's a misunderstanding here - but I was looking specifically for IEMs and earphones - that thread was mostly about headphones so I decided to post here instead.

They are not. They are IEM's and earphones. Headphones refers specifically to something you would wear on your head with cups which house the drivers for each ear.

straight from wiki:

+ Show Spoiler +
Headphones are a pair of small loudspeakers, or less commonly a single speaker, with a way of holding them close to a user's ears and a means of connecting them to a signal source such as an audio amplifier, radio, CD player or portable media player.

so yes IEM and earphones will fall under that category
they are just a type of headphones

Doesn't say "IN" a user's ears. Also, I don't really care what wiki says anyway, every high end audio forum on the internet separates headphones and IEMs into separate categories. You can argue semantics all you want, but in the audio world no one would ever call an IEM a headphone.

I suppose it is just semantics

But yeah I do understand that there is a clear distinction between cans and IEMs

AKG K172 HDs - 1st somewhat HQ headphones I got... Can't really compare them to anything as the closest thing in price to it that I've tried is a pair of K518s. Cable is starting to mess up though
Home - Auzentech X-fi Prelude, stock oamp (got a lot of stuff to worry about at the moment so maybe I'll change this later)
Portable - Touch 2G >> Component AV cable - gives line out, as for why I use this cable - don't ask, it's ridiculous... will be getting some good line out cable soon, by the way the AV cable is 2-3 weeks old and already has problems at the audio output ends, never mind the fact that I didn't stress them at all >> cMoyBB - read a ton of good things about it just about everywhere and decided to get it... HUUUUGE improvement from the fiio e1 that I was using, just gotta keep the batteries charged :> (by the way did I mention that the headphone out survived only half a year for some reason? :D).
As for lossless vs mp3 - 320kbps ain't that bad, actually. As for the VBR - those vary :>
