wholy fucking shit how can you cansider paying more than 50$ on ear phones? I got these nice 25$ ones, work well, and stay in the ear and are comfortable and if I ever want to have noise cancelations, instead of getting something that has a price over $100, I just put 10$ ear muffelers ontop of my earbuds, the same thing that people that work with noisy machinery use, gardeners use, and pro gamers use.
So, instead of getting 150$ + earphones, and getting 50$ ones if ure really into spending money, what could you buy?
About 4 porter house steaks, or 5 prime rib steaks from a good steakhouse such as outback. Add a gig or so in ram to your computer. Get enough bus passes for a few months.

LOL, i thought that was a double-post at first.
I use Sennheiser CX300-B canalphones, they're only $60 since I don't want to spend too much. Plus they're somewhat hindering when I'm at school since I can't hear anything else but the music but its great in the library and other quiet places where the music sounds crystal clear.

i would agree, but the definition of audiophile makes me think he wants high quality for some reason or another

i have the $100 shure e2c headphones or whatever they are. i really like them. i refuse to listen through any more expensive earphones at this point because then i would be unable to live with my shures and would be forced to spend hundreds of dollars to buy new earphones =\
being a musician for 14 years + listening to music through $100 earphones = i can barely listen to mp3's, i have to download all my music in losless format, and i can't listen through any of my friends headphones because it hurts my head.
if you don't want to spend a lot of money on high end audio equipment, don't let your ears become exposed to anything better than what you have... sometimes being supersensitive to how music sounds is frustrating.

Owned. And yes, there is noticeable quality differences as you spend more (if you know what to buy, that is).

I feel you. It was about 2 years ago, when a friend of mine showed me his Westone UM2 and Shure E5c, and I was like, man you crazy 500$ for headphones? Much like some of the responses here. That's when I had my first eargasm. After that you just can't go back anymore.

"Audiophile" headphones costs quite a bit. 100 bucks won't give an "audiophile" experience, but it will probably get you good or decent headphones.
The most expensive I've had was a couple of sennheiser for like 200$ a few years back, but I broke them, but while they were good, they weren't high end or "audiophile". Didn't feel like investing in new expensive ones after that. 100$ is good enough. Too many soundsources are crappy to begin with, and if your headphones are "too good" and analytical, they only bring out the flaws from recordings or formats.
If you have the bucks, go for it. Otherwise get good enough to suit you.

My friend has some slick Bang and Olufsen headphones.. very lightweight and extremely crisp sound quality for around $150.

Wait, so how do you determine the volume of the earphones?
For example, I can hear the music just fine at volume 14 with one pair and the other needs the volume set above 24 for it to have the same volume
I hate the earphones that you plug deep into your ears like the ones pyro posted. They are fucking uncomfortable and comfort > when it comes to earphones.
I've gone through 4 pairs in the past 2 years I think -_-; but none of them were over $15 whew..

the in ear ones come with different sized earplugs so you can find one with perfect fit and well like 99.9% of the human population says that in ear > normal earphones
and alf, koss sparkplug is noob treble and mid only fuzzy ass bass ggnore end of discussion =D
