Pet was decent kind of that 3rd zerg behind line/life but tbh he's mostly here because I need someone to fill it out now onto everyone else classic similar but mostly because new game means new cheeses for the prime toss. Jjakji has been beasting hots imo he's the best esf terran atm so I had to take him instantly. Byun is the greatest player ever stfu. Losira is a team league monster and is prime for a second try at a resurgance. Monster/Seed/Hack fill it out as some players who I saw some solid hots performance and whom I know have been excellent before so I decided to roll out with them. As for the anti-team well despite my cheers my hopes for axiom/acer are pretty damn low and miss because why not take no damage after risking it pretty hard on the two players likely to carry axiom/acer (Unless alicia goes HAM).
Pet hipsters unite! :D Good choice of key players, I hope! If your team doesn't work out at least somewhat, mine is also screwed.
Jjakji: incredible showing at every event, lots of multitask viOlet: lots of multitask, not feared to create new strategies Yongwha: Will all-in his way to victory Squirtle: Same Dream: Same as Jjakji, a lot of multitaks and great use of the medivacs Noblesse: code S as terran in the last WoL gsl? enough for me Shine: I think he's more than a patch zerg Ssanaee: Well he looked not bad, enough for only 1 point.
Team NSH: Hoseo could have a great showing at this event, Jjiakji is in really good shape, Sting could snipe, Tassadar could do some very funky builds, Ssanaee looks also good, and I don't know if Arthur (new WW recruit) will play but it also could be another weapon for team NSH.
Anti team: Sniper: quite a risk here, let's see if he's a patch zerg. SortOf: foreigners never did well in GSTL, safe bet here Killer: He's just bad.
Aphrodite because why not? Bomber because I am a huge Bomber fanboy Crank because he is good. Eve because again, why not? Gumiho because he is a monster. Jjakji because he is also a monster. RagnaroK for being great at the GSTL Shine for filler. Startale because I am a huge fanboy
First because I don't really like him MKP because I like risks. Zero for filler.
Realized that MC was probably not the best captain pick-- I think he'll dominate HotS completely, but the fact that he's an inconsistent show at GSTL to start with because of travelling and because IM is has a large roster and is stacked, and the fact that he won't want to showcase new builds for single matches like the GSTL especially when he's not representing his team per se, makes him a good, cost effective anti-pick rather than a good captain. It's probably technically better to go with 5/4/4 point distribution for an antiteam rather than 6/4/3 since you can only trade up, but meh.
MKP on the other hand is tearing up the Korean ladder atm, and will be a staple on Prime, plus he thrives on chaos, so swapped him in. Was tough to pick him over Jjakji (both are dominant, in good form, and standout players on a relatively small lineup so will make a lot of appearances), I went with the gut on this one.
as you can see from my team name, this is my first time participating in any fantasy league so I'm throwing it up into the air here
I'm relying on Life and Losira to muta-bane-insta-win to get some points, with Yonghwa for random all-kills. As for AcE, Avenge, Mvp and Ruin, I hope they get some air time as well though I doubt Mvp will get as much. Noblesse is used pretty frequently so I chose him and at 3 points, I think its as steal. Azubu as the main team just because
As for the anti-team, I think Genius and Supernova are past their time. They might get used frequently in GSTL but I doubt they'll win matches. As for Seed, I'm not really sure but he's pretty inconsistent.
Simple strategy really. I expect IM to crush, and then will rack up points with 2 aces (GuMiho, MMA), one guranteed staring player (Creator) and two up an comers (Maru, RagnaroK). 3 one-pointers for filler/points, although i expect madbull to play since NSH has basically nobody on it. For anti, i'm banking on the fact that since IM has such a stacked roster, none of their big guns will be sent out =).
I had original had Ganzi (3) + Noblesse (3) + LGIM.(5) which I later swapped for Byul (4), Tear (5), Prime.(2). I thought the team scoring with using the FPL round 3 rules, which is less forgiving for team losses, but it looks like we are using FPL Round 2 rules. Also that means 4-0 all kill is worth +6 not +8 like old FGSTL. Those changes makes me think throwing 5 points on LGIM isn't quite worth it. I think LGIM and FXO are the two strongest teams, which is unfortunately as they face off each other first week. In the end I went with PRIME which frees up quite a bit of value to get better players. Prime has a fairly strong core 4 in MKP, Byun, Maru, Creator. It's hard to say as this makes them a bit predictable but terrans are pretty strong in HoTS. I don't think those players are individually worth their value, as consistency seems to be a bit lacking, but as a team they can do well enough to be worth the 2 point valuation. A great part is that Byul and Tear are really really good so it was definitely worth sacrificing LGIM team pick to get those.
Anyways. Main Team.
Jjakji - Fairly obvious pick. Out of the all the 6+ value players I think Jjakji is the best deal. He's very good player on a weak team. Has consistently carried NSH in team leagues. NSH won't do amazing as a team, but Jjakji is going to almost always take a few kills. He's like the DRG of team MVP last fantasy GSTL, except not quite a dominating, but definitely a star surrounded by weak support.
Ruin, Ragnarok, Byul - IM players that have done really well in the preseason. For 3-4 points they are a great deal. IM will do well and their coach has a tendency to send out their lesser known players. I imagine MC/Squirtle/Mvp/Nestea will rarely ever get used. Yoda/First will see quite a bit of play from IM but are a bit on the expensive side. Ruin is opening and I think he should beat FXOLucky and maybe get even 1 more kill after.
Tear, JKS - Tear is a stable of FXO among Gumiho and Leenock, who are both too expensive to get. He'll be a regular. JKS has seen a lot of play in preseason and done fairly well. I expect he'll be the 4th to round out FXO's core. The other FXO supports are Lucky/TheBest which are not too consistent. I'm curious to see if sC will see a lot of play with his return to HoTS.
Keen - I've always liked keen. It's too bad there are quite a few similarly skilled terrans on MVP in Dream and Noblesse who will compete for getting played. But he's starting and I think he's chances are decent to beat Alicia. This is probably the riskiest pick on my whole roster. If Keen loses his opening match, it's hard to call how likely he'll get sent out next time MVP plays and force my hand to trade him for a lower value player early in the season.
TREME - Man, StarTale's protoss line up got obliterated with Squirtle and Parting leaving. TREME is their strongest toss and a good deal at 3 points. Life and Bomber will be the big guns with Curious and TREME rounding out the support. I just hope ST coach has the good sense of not sending out AcE over TREME, that guy is all talk no skill and I just can't stand him.
Prime - As I mentioned earlier, dropped LGIM to pick better players. Prime is the next best choice for value. They have the advantage of having no good zerg which are bad in HoTS anyway if you are not Life.
Anti-Team
This one was actually pretty easy for me. Out of all the 6+ value players, Ryung is definitely the least deserving of that valuation. Scarlet and SortOf are not bad, but they are foreigner zergs on weak team. That's way overvalued for the 3 and 4 points they are at. I actually like these players but unfortunately I don't think they'll be surprising anyone at GSTL any time soon.
Anyways. There you go. Here's to hoping for a 2nd FGSTL victory
7 Jjakji Jjakji is a fairly common choice, but for notably good reason. On NSHS he's basically a guarenteed player every single week, and even in NSHS's worst of times it was pretty rare for them to get swept as Jumanji would typically pull out 1-3 wins every time.
4 Kangho(LosirA) I needed some more IM players in my fantasy team because that team is OP. Losira specifically is honestly a bit of a gamble. IM is a team that can field any one of their 15 good players, but their zerg lineup can easily be shuffled between Byul, Ragnarok or Losira and they are all respectable choices. Losira feels the slightly safer bet of these three and has looked better recently in WoL at least so I'm hopeful for his HotS.
4 KeeN Keen's awesome. He's also starting and it was a great strategy to all-in on certain starting players for all-kill format because you never know where they can take you. Keen has the high level skills, and I'm hoping he really picks up again in HotS with some consistency and flair.
3 Lucky Lucky is basically me going all-in on not-Ruin. This is my big fat gamble of the week. If Lucky beats Ruin, I look like a genius. If he doesn't, well I'm probably instantly behind everyone else who is picking Ruin. In the long run I also don't really want a IM protoss. There's like 6 of them that are good. You are literally rolling a dice hoping your IM protoss plays this week. I might roll that dice later.
1 madbull (captain) Sort of a filler 1 pointer. On NSHS as a 1 pointer though maybe he'll actually play and win a game somewhere in the season. He was also hilarious as balls, so that gets him credit. I like the concept of captain'ing a low pointer and focusing on trading big stars. It's better for gambling =D
5 NAKSEO(Monster) Monster is one of the zerg MVP trio, he will get gametime. In addition, dude won the HSL against some decent competition and terrans no less whilst everyone complained about them. I feel like this might be one of my safest bets. Then again he made a terrible name change so *shrugs*.
2 TOP This isn't really a bet I expect to pay off in a big way. Really what I'm hoping here is that Azubu field some terrans in light of great demonstrations at MLG and TOP gets some playtime instead of Ganzi and before Supernova. Also I used to love TOP. Manly voice of manhood with man-macro and 2-3 fangirls.
6 YoDa Yoda is the IM bet I'm making that I need to pay off. Losira was a bit of a gamble IM bet, but Yoda is the bigger IM bet in that at 6 points I'm basically hoping he takes some recent momentum and builds heavily upon it to come out as the IM terran ace for GSTL. The big concern here is that Yoda has never really carried IM in a GSTL and that really I'd still put MVP as a scarier player. Still, I feel like Yoda will be the go-to for IM when they need a terran. Unlike zerg and protoss they don't have as deep a lineup here. Yoda will get playtime. For my fantasy team I need him to get win streak time though.
4 [tlpd#teams##sc2-korean]MVP[/tlpd] And finally I've basically gone for MVP as a team because I feel their chances of winning in week 1 are far higher than the other teams. FXO vs IM could be too close to call, and other teams which might be undervalued (Prime notably at 2 points) aren't playing this week. And in FPL having a dead week for an item of your team hurts. Having them for too many items would hurt a lot. I'm hoping for MVP to get a decent score and trade them away if I'm too scared about their games to come.
Anti Team 6 Ryung Probably the weakest of the 6 pointers. A bit of a risk tbh because at his peak Ryung had a devastating TvT and great TvZ. A devastating TvT run might wreck my anti-team in a terran rich environment, but at the end of the day I still think his TvP is such a clear counter it shouldn't be too bad.
4 Scarlett I think Scarlett will get some game time, but I think she won't secure enough wins to dent my fantasy team heavily.
3 VINES At 3 points I think VINES is overrated, but he is on a small team so he might get some play. Most likely I don't expect to see much of him at all.
I think overall I'm pretty happy. I'm also gamble heavy, because you've got to gamble to win it. I'm not here for no "I'll just be happy to get a respectable score". And mrbamboo is vicious. Gotta beat that guy.
Well this is my first time doing this so I just relied on my gut feel.
Life - who wouldn't Ryung - showed solid or semi-solid run at the previous GSL Squirtle - the new team may reinvigorate his dominant self Leenock - I dunno I still think he's inconsistent in Korean leagues unlike foreign ones.
I really wish I could afford to get San on the team without sacrificing Bomber, Gumiho, Jjakji or Byun. Oh well, we'll see how it goes. I decided to get a fair amount of higher valued players in case I have to do some serious trading.
are pretty obvious picks for me. All 4 of them play practically every match for their respective teams. All 4 are extremely strong and have the skill to win multiple matches or all-kill.
I'm very surprised he's only 3 points and was an easy pick for me. He plays a good amount of games for FXO in the GSTL and is really solid. He gets streaky a lot and can string together 2-3 wins easily.
is another player who I think will see a fair bit of time playing for NSH. Last season he didn't play all that much, but considering how weak NSH is and how he stomped on Moon and Luvsic, I'd say he has a good chance of going out against a Z opponent early in matches.
is a decent protoss, nothing too special. However, he's starting for LG-IM which means they have some confidence in him to do well. I want him for the team points. I have a feeling LG-IM is going to have a pretty sick season.
because they're the best bang for their buck at only 2 points compared to the entire mass of teams stuck at 4. With a good strong core of 4 players, they have a good chance of winning a decent amount of matches, and even less of a chance of not getting any points at all.
has had some good performances in the past, but I'm not sure how his transition into HOTS will treat him. I don't think that he'll be able to really stand up to any of the bigger named players.
just isn't at the level of the Koreans. I feel bad saying that, and I'd love to be proven wrong, but I just don't see her winning any games unless against some B-Teamer.
I realize that I have both Lucky and Ruin on the team and both are starting against one another. Even if Lucky wasn't starting I'd have put him on my team. I'm hoping that I can make up for whatever happens with this particular game in the future.
Oh, if anyone's wants, here are some logo's for the teams:+ Show Spoiler +
Team Våd Ål I wanted to go for a terran heavy lineup to exploit the current trend in HotS. I also wanted to go a bit top heavy, hence Bomber / MK / KeeN. I'm a huge TOP hipster, so for 2 points he had to go too Picked Supreme for captain to go for a 1pointer for my non-tradable. As for LosirA and Squirtle, well, I needed a P and a Z and they're both quite good too I went for Lucky because he's starting out for FXO this week and I reckon he can beat Ruin, lol. Finally I picked ST because they're strong. Not much else to say there, they're kinda good! Main Team 6 Bomber 4 Kangho(LosirA) 4 KeeN 3 Lucky 7 MarineKing 5 Squirtle 1 Supreme (captain) 2 TOP 4 [tlpd#teams##sc2-korean]StarTale[/tlpd]
No faith in Heart or Scarlett. Sorry. As for Maru... well, eh, I needed a 5pointer for my anti and he's always been shaky. Anti Team 4 Heart 5 Maru 4 Scarlett
I really wanted to read the analyses of everyone here, but it was taking me too long, sadly. I'll just have to unveil the winning team right here (lol, ignore the fact that I've done horribly in every FPL I've entered).
Chicken Sandwiches (Alternatively, People who don't understand SC2 well.)
Jjakji is my favorite and most captainous player. I'm really glad he's doing so well in HotS, and of course he's essential for earning kills when NSH needs him. Tear and Yonghwa are both proven absolute beasts in team leagues, and have a significant percentage of their teams' wins. Dream is strong, young, and still improving yet. He's impressed at recent IEMs, and I'm comfortable putting faith in him. LGIM has been taking in so many free agents with potential and turning them into monsters. Ragnarok had great results in the preseason and I hope he continues this. Sleep and SSanaEE are both low-pointers with a lot to prove. Sleep is no newcomer to SC2 and has a respectable record overall, while SSanaEE won his first debut game, a rare feat. I've always thought of ZeNEXTREME as one of those players who had a cool name but lacked a cool game, but he surprised in the preseason by getting 2 kills. Probably one of the best 3-pointers now. Time to let out your inner EXTREME! Team LGIM. First time I've splurged on an expensive team, and even though they typically have underperformed in GSTL, they may be able to get it together this season. We'll see.
Byun seems to have had two periods of greatness, early 2011 and Season 3 2012, neither of which were deeply impressed into my mind I guess. I don't fully trust him. Heart can surely throw in a surprise cheese, and even play a solid macro game when forced to, but all the 4-pointers were just so good, and I had to pick someone. Plus, his team is the as yet unproven AxiomAcer. Killer has been struggling lately, as everyone knows.
I did want to obtain Life initially. However, he's really only UNBEATABLE in Bo5+, while in a Bo1 he may sometimes graciously allow his opponent a victory. That and the cost.
LGIM players: I share the thought with many people that LGIM will win a lot of matches but will send out unpredictable lineups. So, I tried to limit the number of actual players on my team while keeping LGIM itself.
Many thanks to DirtyBirD for providing logo links!!

is on a pretty stacked team right now and I don't think he'll really be able to do too much in the team league. If he's brought out, I think it'll be at the end of the match against another strong opponent. I think this one is a pretty big gamble.
All three are priced high, which gives me a lot of room to wiggle in the trade market if I need to.
I realize that I have both Lucky and Ruin on the team and both are starting against one another. Even if Lucky wasn't starting I'd have put him on my team. I'm hoping that I can make up for whatever happens with this particular game in the future.

I like your main team but your anti-team makes my heart break since your decision making for the main team seems to be on point.
MMA was good at team leagues. He started sucking hard when the atmosphere at Slayers was turning for the worst.
Ryung is overvalvued so that isn't a big deal.
Violet on the otoh is a big deal. You already spent a lot of high points with Ryung. You don't need both MMA and Violet in the anti-team and frankly neither one should be there. MMA will be played to break streaks. Violet is the only strong Zerg to be guarantied games on Azabu.

Except if the rules have changed regarding the anti-team trading, which I doubt seeing as almost everyone has his anti at 13 $, you are forced to trade players from anti against players with higher value than them, so by picking three expensives players in your anti you probably won't be able to trade them, and it will be desastrous.
