We also thought Blizzard had learnt in WoL that basing a lategame around free units is not a good idea.
Rain vs ByuL Game 2 Outboxer Rain spawns in the 11 o'clock position. ByuL spawns in the 5 o'clock position. Both players take their naturals. Zerg takes the third. ByuL scouts Rain's stargate. Lair and roach warren for ByuL, robo and forge for Rain. Supplies are very even, 4 phoenix poking around ByuL's bases. Rain takes his third and goes into colossi tech, ByuL gets his spire up. ByuL goes for a bunch of mutas and corruptors. He hits the main but is deflected by nexus cannon and phoenixes. ByuL gets 13 swarm hosts instantly and opts for the late game. Rain tries to attack but gets chain fungaled and has to recall out. Rain denies the zerg's fifth, 8 brood lords coming up. All Rain's void rays get chain fungaled and lose like 8-10 void rays. ByuL has a huge bank and is moving out on the map. Rain does a lot of damage with a stalker/zealot force in the zerg's main. Rain catches a bunch of high templar with a fungal and moves in. Rain has a big stalker colossi force and tries to snipe off most of ByuL's base. ByuL catches Rain's force and takes out a bunch of stalkers. 150 supply to zerg to 91 for protoss. Both have started new bases but are very low in minerals. ByuL finally catches Rain and wipes him out. IM ties it up! 1-1!

They are uninteresting when used for defensive play, but aggressive SH play is quite entertaining to watch imo

Shouldnt the resources spent on colossi be rather spent on more other units like tempests, void rays, templars?
Colossi are mandatory vs sh, nothing else that toss has actually kills locusts and trying to run around them is not enough (see: that retarded game between tod and stephano on akilon wastes)
