I'm going to be completely honest, It's because of the hardcore Stephano fans that shove it down everyone's throat that he is the best player in the world and saying otherwise makes you a hater, it turns a lot of people off of him.
Most people hate on him publicly as payback because they know it bothers Stephano fans, not because they actually hate him.
It's not his fault, people hype him up too much and It's annoying. He even said himself he doesn't care about being the best he just wants to make money yet people will continue to argue on both sides just to piss each other off.
If I had to make an example related to Brood War it would be the question that comes up " Why do people hate Bisu? "
The answer : His fans are annoying.

Anyone who bashes Stephano's playing saying he is bad is not actually being honest with themselves, they are just trying to stir shit up. I don't believe any sane person would actually believe he's not a very talented player.
He is a huge figure of controversy with the forfeiting games and being a top foreign player. His stream peaked at 18k viewers when he was streaming before Lonestar and it's not because of his play alone, otherwise MKP would get 18k viewers too. ( These numbers are pretty much unheard of for a sc2 FPstream, even Idra never got above 15k I don't think ) He's popular and when you have a lot of people discussing something it turns into what it is now, huge flamewars whenever he plays. Idra in his " prime " had the almost exact same situations happen as we have now with Stephano in regards to how people talk about him.

You have a point actually it's very similar to the Idra thing. Reminded me of all the shit that happened when Idra was banned for 90 days. Both the fans and haters were just as bad then.
edit: then again Idra started that, Stephano doesn't seem to have done anything to rile his fans up like that.

I think he just cracked under the pressure, poor guy. It must be tough living out there for an extended period and if the things he says are true ( which I have no reason to doubt ) it makes it even harder to get the most out of the Korean training environment.
Not saying he should have made that thread, which was obviously a dumb decision.

Yeah he seemed really frustrated. I do sort of get the feeling that Naniwa is not the easiest person in the world to get along with, and his sometimes overly-cocky attitude does not help either.
