My first problem on TL was with this bloke who was advocating torture when there were this waterboarding scandal. Point is, I have never met nor talk with someone who could have this kind of ideas IRL and I will probably never do. I reacted the way we seemed normal, I said what I thought and obviously it was unappropriate.

i agree with you in theory but in practice it's more about the details of the reaction itself than whether or not there is one at all
edit: oh ok you just posted basically this

I broke the rules precisely because I reacted how I was feeling. Sometimes you have to cool down and let it go. Or just plainly ignore what really pisses you off.

that's not a feeling that's a result of a choice that comes after the feeling
i can feel angry and i can say
"that makes me angry"
or i can say
"fuck you"
one of these does not break the rules.

Nevergg is a woman and they don't react the same way as guys do, I can't see any guys overreacting like that to a joke, it wasn't even all that bad of a comment from rekrul considering that he lost like 15 thousand dollars.

travis you're right, i don't mean this as an all-encompassing thing. it's just a good rule of thumb for especially newer posters, and a reminder that it is very possible to disagree gracefully.
|
Yeah I was pretty sure you weren't meaning to be taken quite like that. But I still do sort of agree with what you say. It's a good way to keep situations from escalating.
|
ive been banned for mostly sexism and racism i think 5 total temp bans and a couple of warnings
when i read rekrul's post an remembered his bet, i chuckled to myself. but nevergg seemed to flip out and take it way too seriously. now, i dont really mind if she cancels the project personally. i wrote a message for flash but if he doesnt get it i dont mind at all, i spent like 2 secs making the comment, but i can understand how others might feel guttered.
i think nevergg is a bit too high strung and just needs to buzz out for a while

The mods obvoiusly deleted it for a reason, but by any chance can someone give *some* elaboration/synopsis on what rekrul said? And how much money did he lose? What was the bet. I'm curious!

It's like people think that the golden rule doesn't apply because it's the Internet, but it still does.. maybe more so then ever.

Nevergg is an exceptional contributor to the community, but that DOES NOT give her free reign to act however she wants. If you create an event or project, you have an inherent responsibility to complete the project or cancel it for legitimate reasons (lack of interest etc). Cancelling an event and telling 6 pages of users to blame one member because of a personal disagreement is completely unacceptable and shows that nevergg feels she can do whatever she wants without repercussion. That is not the case.
This is the first time she has been banned - not because of a flawless posting history. She has been given LOTS of leeway in the past whether she realizes it or not - there have been many discussions of temp bans on her account and it usually came down to a no due to her contributions. This went too far.
Nevergg has asked to be perm banned because she thinks "all mod staff hate me". This is far from the case - we simply have to make objective decisions with these types of issues. She will take her 1 week ban like any other veteran and it is up to her where she goes from there. Obviously she is an important member to the community, but clearly she needs to be shown that there are lines that can not be crossed. Posts like this really reinforce the respect I have for TL's mod staff. So many forums and communities are ruined because of under- or over-moderation, but TL always walks that fine line with skill and ease. Thank you all so much!

Oh man, I thought I had posted in it, and couldn't find it...
EDIT: Oh damn... seems like an insane overreaction... things didn't even seem heated in that thread.
PS. Did he really lose $15,000?

pretty sure the amount of bans skyrocketed since the reporting feature was introduced.

The starcraft 2 forums need a HUUUUGE purge. Like seriously, the stupidity in some of the threads is mind boggling.
People trying to argue balance from their 2v2 plat experience, rampant trolling, complete incompetency in the most basic unit and strategy knowledge, etc.
I realize TL has had a huge influx of half-brain dead WoW basement dwellers, but this is too much.
