It's almost like there are two threads going on at the same time in there. Once is a realistic mostly civil discussion of the issue. The other is an angry back and forth that seems to boil down to "nu-uh", "ya-huh".
A couple of warnings so far, we shall see how many bans we end up with.

It's hilarious going on other websites and seeing the same people getting banned whining about how their shit posting was completely justified, and the mods are doing anything from ruining their business, tarnishing their family name, or acting completely unprofessional for even daring to ban them.

One of the tell-tale signs I look for in a poster that hasn't been banned yet, but will be soon if they don't leave the forum first, is how loudly they complain about the moderation on a forum. I've had a good chuckle at a few of the perms that have gone out in my year here to people that months prior I had noticed make an off-hand remark about how the mods will ban for "anything" or "no reason" at all.
They probably think they're trolling.

I get the same way when I read stuff in the general forum ;_; I can FEEL it bringing out the worst in me as I write some snarky terrible post. I hit "preview," I read it, and realize what I might become-- so I don't post it. The UC davis thread I've just avoided as a matter of course, because I'm sure stuff is getting real intense ;_;

The problem with General is that people don't actually like to question what others are saying in a reasonable manner. That particular topic has spanned countless pages with different people saying the same thing over and over again. If you aren't going to ask something different, or add some new information, why post?
To me that is most frustrating thing. A discussion is not the same crap recycled. I hang out in General a lot and there are some really great posters there. It is just a pity that people get so worked up that they can't post constructively

People take things so personally sometimes. IMO, If someone can't handle a debate as nothing more than an intellectual exercise, they should simply not visit the general forum, period.
When I make an argument and people attack me personally, I just laugh it off. It's sad really.

Well it's not really the thread for it, but here's a quick summary in s poilers:
+ Show Spoiler +As per expected, a bunch of kids showed up to Minecon. In Las Vegas. In a Casino. Notch asked Yogscast to make a video for the event, and being British and known for cursing -- they said "Fuck" once or twice in the pre-recorded video. Notch got super pissed off and said that he was refusing to work with them on his twitter from here on out because you don't curse in front of children. Then basically it exploded from people yelling at him, and him saying that they were apparently going around cursing kids out and whatnot (which is clearly not true).
Basically, Yogscast cursed (what else is new) and Notch got extremely pissed off saying that it's innapropriate, despite him making a dick joke less than 24 hours earlier on his twitter and making his event (for children) in a Casino in the middle of Las Vegas. I know someone who went there, I mean, there were fucking strippers walking around in plain sight around and inside the convention center, and he's throwing a hissy fit over them saying "Fuck" in a pre-recorded video, when they were not even told that they should keep it clean.
Besides, what did Notch expect other than a shitstorm and massive drama when he bashes someone with 1.5 million subscribers on his twitter for something so arbitrary?
But that'll be the end of me talking about it. It's pathetically immature on both sides for how serious this is turning out to be over how small in actuality it is and it really doesn't warrant any discussion. Let alone any on TL.

This is perfectly said. Part of the issue is that many people make no effort to read the discussion in the thread prior to them entering into the thread. I'm not saying you should have to read through all 30 pages of posts (many of them are not worth the time anyway) but you should at read the first and last 10 and at least one per page to be able to gauge the general trend of the thread.
Though I can understand why some people get as worked up over certain issues like the KMD thread. There's one issue in particular if it was ever brought up on TL would result in me getting banned within 5 minutes, (seriously). Getting worked up over politics is dumb though :/
