What if this is all an evil plan to recolonize Asia? Let them all wear masks, flu is eliminated, immunity lost, then we decimate the population by coming in and sneezing and take the land. The preparations have already begun, because we still need to be beat anyone who is left alive and so far we are at the right track, at least when it comes to SC2-warfare. I'm not a scientist so I might be wrong about this, but as far as I can tell that study is not conclusive as what actually worked.
See they had two dimensions, wearing surgical masks, and hand sanitation. To figure out what the correlation between these are and if there's a synergetic effect you would have to have four sample groups They did not, only having three, missing out on the no face mask - hand sanitation group. But even with only three sample groups they still didn't get enough data to be statistically significant for the group with masks and no hand sanitation (due to how rare people getting influenza-like illnesses during the 6 weeks of the study was even with a total sample size of 1000 students.)
I would hesitate to draw any strong conclusions from this study.
