You can protect the saved passwords with another password, which you then either have to remember, or store in some other storage, prefferably password-protected. Continue by transfinite induction to prove ... whatever the hell you want.
Or you can be like me and have all passwords in a text file on desktop, because you just don't give a fuck anymore.

Even if the browser didn't give you an easy way to view your saved passwords, you could just log out, open the network manager, log-in and look at the login post request to see the submitted password, so there isn't really a point in hiding it. If someone hostile has access to your browser you're just basically screwed.

You don't need to. You can view the un-encrypted headers using your browser's built-in network tool. Or you could mitm your own browser after installing the required certificates.

I'm at the point where I might just use some stupid password like 12345678 on non-financial logins. I think I have the same info now on everything gaming related. It's no big loss really if it gets hacked. It's not like a hacker can make my posts any shittier.
The other issue I have is username because my name is pretty common. It's a mess of added letters and numbers depending on what was convenient at the time. I think I have more username variations than password variations.

Try using a password manager, it is quite handy.

I know personally people who will use a different strong password for every "please register here to use this bullshit service" login and I think it's a sign of insanity. The problem is however that many places have requirements and those are often contradictory. So whereever it's possible, my password is "heslo" (Czech for password), you are all welcome to try it, my username is pretty unique. For the others, I have a single "strong-ish" password that I remember and it usually gets accepted. I really don't care if my logins to 47568 different eshops get breached. Or, honestly, for TL for that matter. For some time, I was an admin on a pretty big astronomical forum and I didn't realize that I still had "heslo" as the password. That could have been quite hilarious. For banking, I have SMS authorization, my work email will get reverted in a couple of minutes if I phone in a password breach, anything else doesn't really matter.

Easy solution for having different passwords is to have a common base for all passwords (ideally something decently strong), and then add a variation depending on the website, like the first two letters of the website's URL, or the fourth and fifth letters, or whatever you want.

Anyway, if anyone's afraid that some of their passwords have been compromised, just send the then along with the url and login to me in PM and I will check for you

I have about three different passwords based on how much I'd be bummed out if someone hacked my account, plus variations based on how annoying the requirements are. Like password, password1, Password1, Password1%, etc. 99.9% of the time, forgetting or losing my password is a bigger risk than someone managing to guess mine.

My password for most things is blastoise with some variation.
Blastoise never lets me down.

I do... It's kind of a pain though. I never forget my passwords, but I always forget which passwords are associated with which accounts.

I dont use passwords based on actual letters or symbols. I base my passwords on their geological positioning on the keyboard. For example, I start at the number 3 and go to the down-right to r, g, n. Then I hit caps and go up-right to N, J, I and ). This gives 3rgnNJI) which is a pretty solid password but very easy to remember. And you can do infinite variations of different lengths too.
