People get heated over the weirdest shit now adays. The internet definitely brings out the crazy in people.
This thread has always been TL Jerry Springer in my book. Its moving away from that tho, I agree.

brokenLoL was just temp banned for 2 weeks by GMarshal.
That account was created on 2012-05-13 05:40:42 and had 279 posts.
Reason: Still not learning. Off topic MLG bashing.
This is the end of the line, next one is going to be a much more permanent solution to the problem. new reddit thread:

Well, he didn't start with it, it's buried in a jumble of other things, and the cited reason was not "this post shouldn't be being posted" but a concern about a different rule (show a replay)...

from a PM i received (from a banling) about martyr posts:
I think we're trying to make a distinction between "martyring" being "ban me I don't care" and not "I'll probably get banned for this but...(reasonable content)"
i think there might be a policy shift underway here.. or perhaps i should say an attempt to get back to the original premise of the 'bans for martyrs' policy.

herrmus was just temp banned for 2 days by GMarshal.
That account was created on 2010-12-12 12:11:18 and had 88 posts.
Reason: You have 7 mod actions over 88 posts, this is your 8th.
Shape up your posting please, or the bans are going to get a lot longer.
8 mod actions over 88 posts? Why not perm him to keep it nice and even. Or else we will need to wait 11 posts more for his 9th mod action.

Hmm.. that was not how I viewed their policy. But if a banling say so. I always thought that they put martyring first, as in no mater the content, if you martyr you will get banned even if it is a great post otherwise.

Guys post made sense is why. He didn't need to include the martyr but other then that, it wasn't flaming.

I think that's how it has been working for a while now, but it was suggested that they were trying to change that. I'm not sure if they are still discussing it, or if they decided to try to nuance their position a little, or if they've just flat out decided it's too difficult to consistently differentiate.
In the case I was PMing about, another mod banned the guy as a martyr anyways!

Martyr = ban, always, unless the mod misses it.
(I'm the guy who missed it the first time around, btw :-P)

Then again he was banned by Gmarshal right now so I guess maybe they don't change it lol. Man you must be happy that you got ABL to cover your back right Gmarshal?

Banlings don't lie. The truth just reshapes itself at their whims.

I can neither confirm nor deny any possible policy changes that may be taking place or under discussion, I do know that if you say "I hope I don't get banned for this" or "ban me, I don't care" or "these nazi mods will surely ban me just for expressing my perfectly reasonable opinion that GMarshal should go die in a fire because he is a rear end in a tophat!" I will ban you.

Dammit, I can't report banlings for martyring three times in a single post!
Also, the Constitution protects my freedom of speech! Banning people for martyring is censorship and unconstitutional! My seventeen degrees from Harvurd law school said so, and I'll be calling the supreme court with a petition from reddit tomorrow to get a court order given to TL!
(This was sarcasm, if you couldn't tell. Although I'm sure you've seen similar more seriously.)

I dunno, I'm pretty sure I've seen martyrs get away with warnings before.
