Ive been asking myself how things look on the other side, do we haven any older highre level players. Any 30+ or even 35+ master / high master or even gm players?

So you have a small target pool just because of timing, and then you add the other difficulties, I'd be surprised if there were any over 35, and probably just a small number (like white-ra and boxer) who are over 30.

Though i assume the question was on inexperienced players who started their RTS in their late 20s / early 30s and now are Masters / GM, that would be something else! Probably some around ![]()

Other than that, age, being mechanically *worse* and not having a lot of time to play shouldn't prevent you from getting at least to mid masters if you actually try to.

Been struggling to get into masters ever since... been very close sometimes, but i never made it above mid/high diamond (in 2on2 i've been master most seasons, but that doesn't count imo ![]() Funny thing is, i've been diamond ever since Beta... i have some Wc3 and also Broodwar background, so i guess i had a little advantage in the start. At least i could "keep up" with diamond ever since, even thou i have limited practice time. Reasons have been told here already i think. Ofc i cannot practice anymore like when i was 17yo... i got a job, a fiance and bought a house recently... kids are hopefully coming soon too ![]() If someone wants to see my struggles, i sometimes stream (especially on weekends): http://de.twitch.tv/noorgrintv I would be happy about some more subscribers ![]()

Went to a DreamHack! I'm sure there are many people in Masters/GM that are older. For people around student age (15-18) when the first StarCraft came out, they'll now be 30-33. I'm sure the people that are towards the older age of the spectrum of players will continue to get older (as is wont to happen). Some may stay on! Who knows, WhiteRa may actually hit 50 in 15 years and still be playing.

I am a few months shy of 30 (/sadface) and in masters. I don't play often, but occasionally I put a few hardcore weeks in and have no problem going up to high masters. It does take a couple of weeks though, as after a month or two of just playing team games I get really bad :p I have the distinct advantage of being a hardcore aoe player who spent a few years putting in 40 hour weeks. In my opinion it really just comes down to how much time you can dedicate to improving, and most of the skill is transferable between games.

![]() I am just sometimes gold sometimes platinum - I used to put my "age" as an excuse, but I come to realize that I am just lazy to practice effectively (which might be a symptom of the age anyway).

And like a few people say, its not that older player cant do it as good as the young, it just most older people have other life commitment (work, wife, kids, etc.) that they cannot just shoved aside to improved at starcraft (like high school :p)

I think the difference between players like Boxer, Nestea, Whitera and so on is that they started playing RTS games when they were young. I'm sure even in their 50s and 60s those guys will still play at masters level. But I've never met anyone who started playing RTS in their 30s and made it to masters. Having said that I'm sure I could get to masters if I had unlimited time to devote to the game.

![]() I think it is really cool to face / come across all ages on sc2 (the funniest part is that you usually find out later) Ageism is such a huge sad thing ... (and this in both ways .. kids hating on old gamers and old gamers spitting on kids alike) In france, when we "age grade" stuff like games or comics .. we often say 7"a game for people from 7 to 77 ... I think this "naive" idea is really something that raises the "interest" in a particular game (or other). If a game is "for 7 to 77", it means that it worth trying it out. I sure wish that I'll still be able to play at 77 ![]() Personally I like old and young people and manage to have fun with both, but i must sadly admit that it is difficult to try to be a go between both! ps: 39 year old random ![]()

Someone with the hammer is just randomly getting annoyed for no reason ;( "You've been warned." See Rule #3 Posting "This." is just a bad post and gets warned. Quoting a post warned for the very thing you're doing with the quote is just plain dumb and deserves When I was younger I always frowned upon my older gamer friends "I'm old ergo I'm not as good anymore." attitude. Now that I'm past 30 myself I find that while my skills haven't actually deteriorated, my competitiveness and with it my motivation to practice/ try real hard has. When my flatmate offered a bet (and thus motivation) for some arbitrary gaming goal ("bet you can't reach xxxx ranking in x time") I reached said goal way faster than he (or I) thought.

I have such an insane NEED to NOT LOSE that it really just isn't worth playing anymore. I had like the 3rd highest ratio of win:loss out of those in those rankings not because I wanted to win, but just because I REALLY didn't want to lose. When you play this way, there's really no benefit. You either "expect to win," which gives no excitement, or you "hate losing," which only upsets. In the end, even for people way better than me (who have this attitude), there's no reason to play ![]()

I got my top 30 in US in first few months of SC2 (basically just a transfer of my old BW skills from back in 2000/2001) and that was my signal that even without as much practice, I could still overcome many strong players. I think I needed that for closure to know where I stood when I tried. I have such an insane NEED to NOT LOSE that it really just isn't worth playing anymore. I got nowhere as high as you (respect!) but I learned, taht somtimes it is better just to let the other guy win, esp if u are having a insane win streak. Cos then you start becoming a win ratio whore..and that is never good for you. ![]()

I actually play a bit with my son (10yrs) and nephew in Oz (he's like 35). We sometimes 4v4 with his kid (6yrs)! I'm pretty terrible (silver) but I love the game. I like experimenting more than mechanics, though, which pretty much explains my skill ceiling. But I've got nothing to prove so it's all good.

I played BW long time ago and compared to that my APM is much lower from 160 to like 100, getting older, and I also get much faster tired, can't really play more then 1-2h in a session.
