All players except for contracted pros, so no Idra or QXC or Naniwa to worry about. It's a way to get your name out, a "best of the unknowns" if you were. So technically, yes, you could form your own semi-pro team with tag and all.

Also, if you look at the NSL thread, both Saskatchewan and Manitoba have teams built up to compete. There are 2 cities about the size of Boston in that region, and I was able to get ~22-26 people in New England consistently for LAN tournaments. Now, I am definitely not saying you are wrong, heck you may be a lot more right than I am and if so, I will gladly redistrict to try and balance things out better. It may come to a point where we combine some US and Canadian areas to get the right population spread. We already did it with Alaska, why not right? From what I gather, BC and Alberta can't be compared with Manitoba and Saskatchewan, no offense to anyone. BC and Alberta can field 15-20 GMs if everyone were active, I think the prairie provinces may be lucky to field a few. However, that is just the skill level of these provinces. Both Manitoba and SK seem to have pretty active communities. Well it comes form the fact that the total population of Saskatchewan + Manitoba + Nunavut is only about ~2 000 000 people, that's about 1/4 of the population of BC + Alberta alone.

Nothing to do with the skill level of the provinces, just the population, there are several top masters players on the Saskatchewan CSL teams too.

Heh. The only thing I'm really learning right now is coding but I'm not all that great at it just yet.

I have been seeing some amazing resumes from you guys. keep them coming in, and don't worry about the deadline of tonight, push it out to Thursday if you need the extra time. It was my fault on the mis-send and the delay. I'm really really looking forward to seeing the amazing talent we have.
I even may have a few people picked out for a verbal interview.

Kitchener, any other players ?!!? lets do this
|
Sounds like an amazing idea that should have started a long time ago. Only thing I'm wondering is what exactly is the purpose of the regional separation aside from diversified automatic competition, is it to spread out a pool of players among eight tournaments instead of instantly having one huge tournament? Thing is, with an entry fee of $15 I feel like that'd weed out a huge amount of potential players right off the bat, plus there's no fast, efficient way of proving location of residence without getting personal, and even then people can lie or fake it. At any rate, I hope it works out because it sounds like an awesome idea. Can't wait to see this get started!

This is a great idea, but it won't be easy. The definition of "pro player" is still a bit fuzzy. There are some obvious ones, but there are also those who play full time, but don't necessarily get a team salary. So are they considered not pro?

I've been diligently working on reducing the $15 down to $0. You see, I currently run a regional league in the New England area. We have had great support from our sponsors and I proposed them the concept of this league. They like it and are going to give us product. They are also proposing it further up the ladder to gain actual funding for the league. I do have to wait until after CES before I go any further in negotiations.
As far as the regions go, you nailed part of it with spreading out the talent. If you want to, you could even consider it a big tournament of 256 that takes place over 2 months. What it also does, is spotlights up and coming players in the different regions and, much like other sports, gives you a local face to cheer for the next tournament.

I consider the players that get a salary from a team ro can make a living off of playing all the time as pro players. Destiny, just as an example, makes enough money to survive on. That, I consider pro. Now mind you, it's either or, not necessarily both.

OP has been updated as such.
I just wanted to give everyone an update so far as a lot of people don't read all the way through a thread... me included sometimes. Current negotiations with sponsors are going very good and it looks like I will be able to make this free. There are still job openings for casters, admins, and producers based off of regions. You can go here to see what the jobs entail and where you can shoot an email to apply. I am just about ready to start actually hiring people into positions. I've also been in some chats with MLG about working with them in a few ways. Very exciting btw. More info to come when CES is over.
And once more, I did send out emails a while back for everyone that applied.

I want this for Europe. btw: Wyoming and Montana are missing.

maybe the leagues could be run by local barcrafts : )

I can see that being done for the state vs state league that Canucks is running, but since this is large regions, I don't think that would work too well. Having a barcraft event to watch this. I can see that one for sure

Quebec here, really interested. I will be following this thread to see what happens!

Sorry, no update this week. The sponsors are back from CES and I have spoken to 2 of them through email about product they have alreasy sent out for my local league and some clarifications for future development. Speaking of which, do we have any graphic designers in the house?

Just wondering... would you guys need french casters AND english casters for Quebec? Or will everything be run in english?
I don't think it's a problem either way since most of the eSports fan are pretty much all bilangual (they don't have much choice lol) but casting some games in "Canadian French" when some players from Quebec are playing could actually bring new blood to the scene I think.

My knowledge of the game is not bad at all and my french speaking skill is quite good too, i would say.
I can't say that I am a good caster since I pretty much never tried, so there is probably plenty of french casters in canada better than me, but I could try it and send a sample to you.
I would love too if it turns out that I am actually any good.
I follow the scene quite a lot and I'm an Information Technology/Network technician too and completed some class in cisco CCNA, if you guys need any help with something.
Woud you like a more formal application by mail?
