EDIT: Because I expected me being more of a LR whore. Apparently I go on other parts of the website as well. Who knew | ||

Have you ever - or do you see yourself ever - attempting to get females involved with some sector of pro-gaming besides the stereotypical groupie ideal.. I saw this partially because I am a female gamer, and 2 because my name is Amanda.. if you catch my drift Yours truly, another Micro Amanda | ||

That sort of thing is not really within our control. Females can be fans, players, etc too, they don't need our help becoming those things, they are choices they make themselves. As for how they are treated on this website and in the gaming community in general, I think there's plenty of room for improvement. Do we want to get to a point where girls and guys are treated equally by everyone on the forums? Yes. Are we still far away from that right now? Also yes. This past half year, we have tried hard, moderation wise, to crack down on our predominantly male audience attacking or objectifying women. I believe this has led to more women registering and posting and being open about it on TL. That's good. The more StarCraft fans, the better. I've even argued my fair share about women-only tournaments, usually against the slew of annoying bad "its discrimination against guys!!" posters. That said, it's not easy, especially since oftentimes the worst types of female gamers get the most attention. I can sort of see a lot of gamer first, girl second kind of users rolling their eyes and sighing heavily at each "gurl gamer" scandal, the same way I kind of silently curse to myself every time I see William Hung on television. Ultimately we want lots of female StarCraft players and fans, that's good for everyone and that's what we want to move toward. Meanwhile, like Pholon said, there are plenty of gender-neutral ways to contribute or participate. We've had a good number of TL staff that were female, whether they worked on TLPD, graphics, translation, etc. | ||
