For the first three, their old achievements don't mean as much as the championships today because of the low skill level of the players at the time. Similarly, I think that we will look back on the tournaments of 2011-2012 in one or two years time and go "wow, people really weren't very good back then". But more than that, nothing about them stuck with me, I suppose. Same goes for Stork and other, older BW pros. I think that there is still a vast amount of untapped potential in StarCraft 2, strategically and mechanically. Hopefully this trend of (mostly foreign) players running from one weekend tournament to the next will be replaced by something more sedentary. Players need to live in proper team houses and play in tournaments that don't start and finish over the course of three days if they want to improve their skill and invent exciting, new styles that push StarCraft 2 to its limit. Practicing on ladder is not good enough, and the huge difference between the tournament structures of MLG and GSL is always overlooked. A major reason why StarCraft tournaments like the OSL are so exciting is because the players have time to practice and create strategies specifically for one or two opponents, and play their games in peak condition. Right now, tournaments like MLG are just a grind. Many of the top players were probably at a different tournament a week or two before and they will use the same strategies and tactics that they always have until someone's ingenuity or a patch forces them to innovate. The winner is determined by a different (and less interesting and laudable, imo) set of skills and circumstances than those of the winner of a GSL or OSL. You can equate it to the difference between a huge war in medieval times where the warriors just go from castle to castle and fight in huge free-for-all brawls, and a samurai duel in feudal Japan. Another example is in professional Go, where there are amateur tournaments with time limits on games and the players have multiple games in a day. But at the highest levels, the best players have long drawn-out games with months of preparation. Personally, I think that the MLG format is great for amateurs and the GSL format is unquestionably the ideal for the top players. Coach Park (SKT1 coach) said that one of the biggest factors in why KeSPA players will come to dominate the SC2 scene is that they are working in structured and time-tested team house environments, and I believe him. Thank you for the reply Do you think that with the advent of HotS, championships achieved shortly after that release are worth less (in terms of your respect) than championships achieved right now then? After all, when people start playing HotS they will carry over some builds, but all the races will change significantly - probably Terran most of all with the Mech style - and everyone will go back to being not so good. Not to the same extent as GSL Open Seasons, but still far less polished play. edit: with regards to MVP, Nestea, MC and MKP in particular, what makes me respect them more than Hero, Parting, MMA and the like is that they are just so consistent. Considering all the comments about how SC2 takes less skill, is more volatile etc etc, it is just amazing that these guys have been around since the Open Seasons and (with the possible exception of Nestea) are still considered to be contenders for the best players of their races. Only 1 of the four, MC, has ever dropped out of GSL, and he got back in there through a ridiculous run at Orlando. To me that stands out far more than Parting's storms, MMA's drops or Hero's cutesy Warp Prism micro. Well yea, for the first few months people will just be figuring out how to play the game.

Edit: of course I'm looking at + Show Spoiler + Manifesto7 probably is a communist... but the others? Does it mean for example that GTR kills people? The icons should be taken as literally as possible. For example, Plexa really likes waffles. ETT used to work on the Teletubbies show as an actor. Ares[Effort] is good at compiling replays. Waxangel is really lazy. And Nazgul is one of nine evil beings of great power dedicated to serving a dark lord. Thanks, my respect for ETT has become even bigger. I think this icon for the oldtimers is a nice touch. The only ones I don't get then are tree.hugger, semioldguy and especially InToTheWow since I can't understand what that icon is. Semioldguy is one of those pieces from a board game (carcassonne specifically I think), it has a specific name, but it escapes me right now. tree.hugger has a Lorax, from the Dr Seus story, The Lorax. Intothewow's icon is a goat, wearing a wizard hat, smoking a pipe. Oh, wow. I always thought it was a stargazing elephant wearing a viking helmet.

Maybe "how do you pronounce your name?" is an important question too What about "salle"? I assume non-swedes think it's like "sal" (which is how I read it in my head). Would be interesting to see the disparity between how we see a lot of mods' names and how it's supposed to be pronounced haha. Yes pronounced cow. He's also sacred in India.

"Joe" seems simpler! (then again...I find myself referring to HB as "HB" or "Hot_Bid" instead of his monosyllabic name. maybe this is always natural, for people who met under aliases.) I would have called you JWD if I had met you in person, actually. Somehow didn't know before, so if we do meet, I'll call you Joe
