I wont give names as not sure if they want it known yet, but they are GM, so not just some random players

Great initiative, the UK scene sucks at the top level. If I was masters I'd be seriously considering this!

If you get off the ground, you should consider hosting some events/lans or whatever. The UK scene is so dead and i just wish i could attend some live events fairly close by and from Brighton to Plymouth isnt that far.
If you need any other help with anything from Casting to managing your Web presence and other stuff i can help. Just PM me ingame or on TL.net. Starzbrain.846
Keep up the good work and i hope to see you guys in some mayjor events soon.

This. Sounds. Awesome. I'm studying in London for three months starting in September, so if you guys ever need a masters player to buy some beers I'd love to come check the house out ;D

Ok, so a bunch of stuff happened and people got upset. It's being resolved now.

Oh snap, guess thats what happens when people don't communicate well and get things in solid writing. Lesson to all involved me thinks.

+ Show Spoiler +On August 10 2011 05:53 GimbleB wrote:Ok, so some major shit just went down regarding the teamhouse. Over the past few weeks, Dan (Eleaven) hasn’t been online that much, but the times he was online, he reassured us that things were moving along smoothly and that we’d start moving down to him so we could find a place together. He also mentioned an un-named sponsor possibly providing help to pay rent (we had originally all planned to pay our % of the rent). So while I’m in the middle of getting my visa sorted for Raleigh, Dan comes online on for the first time in a couple of days and says The mediafire link was to a text file that said + Show Spoiler +Group A Erik Ramquist Lewis Miles Paul Barnes
Group B John Campbell Alex Y. Mike Griffiths David Barett Darren Hazelden Jordan Williams
Group A are to move in between August 25-September-30th. It's unlikely that group B will be moving in.
Group A was determined by activity level/ongoing effort/enthusiasm/help and discussion. Wasn't an enjoyable decision to make.
I'm going to be away between August 9th-15th, but emails do go to my phone. If you feel you've been wrongly placed feel free to email me to explain why.
feint.kr@gmail.com He then logs offline and leaves the conversation on skype. Several things came up afterwards amongst the people in the skype conversation (we’d had it opened since around the time this thread started). 1. Dan was actively talking to the people in Group A about what was going on, but made no mention of this until now. 2. Who were John Campbell and Jordan Williams (I might’ve talked to her on bnet at one point?)? Nobody else had heard of these people until now. 3. What determined “activity level/ongoing effort/enthusiasm/help and discussion”? I might not have taken part in every conversation, but I was reading and letting people know that I had read them. This was in part due to being busy practicing and playing in tournaments (I also couldn’t move until after I got back from Raleigh). One of the guys in group B was about to hand in his notice for work and another had already purchased his plane ticket. 4. Erik explained that the sponsor was only willing to pay for 4 people (including Dan) and that despite everyone being willing to pay our own rent, they were only going with 4 people. It’s worth noting that Erik has been great with explaining the situation and what’s happening (Lewis and Paul were afk when Dan dropped the bomb on this) and I personally wish him the best. From what Erik and Paul have said since, they aren’t happy about the way we were told either (Lewis is still afk at the writing of this post). It’s sad that something that seemed to be going so well turned out like this. Alex, Darren and I are talking about setting up a separate house (possibly in the Newcastle area). If anyone is interested, send me a PM and we’ll get a group set up to talk about it. We’ll likely start a new thread for this tomorrow if people show interest. At the end of the day, I’ll be trying to get back into a good practice regimen and competing. Hopefully this serves as a lesson so people can learn from our mistakes.
WTF this looked like an awesome thing and now it has gone south fast l really don't know what to say but I hope things work out for those who are involved and who were going to commit to this but have been turned away at the last moment.

I'm not shocked this has turned sour, If I was one of the guys committing to this I would be very careful .

Gimble, i said a while back that this was a retarded idea, much like a stranger asking you if you like smarties and want to stroke his "puppy" in his mystery van.
It is no suprise that a non entity in the uk community has come up with shit that is not viable/trustworthy, yet astoundingly you all jumped in the van to then realise that there were indeed no puppies nor aformentioned smarties but indeed a raging rapist waiting to pounce.
The UK community is very small indeed, i think the community is so tight knit that we all know each other through the community site at ukstarcraft.net and all the events such as Iseries TEC ECL etc.
Unless someone is completely legit and known, then it's naive to believe someone who no one has heard of to live with them, this farce is going to make the UK scene look like a complete joke and the quicker this gets sorted and forgotten about the better. I dont feel sorry for those being duped, as they are fools to be "hook, lined & sinkered" in the first place.
However if you and your mates are setting up a place that sounds like a good idea, and a much safer one, you should have went for this option first, it's sad that it took for all of this for you to realise it however.
Best of luck, like.

Did seem a bit too good to be true, i feel bad for the guys strung along by this, best of luck setting up your own house if thats what you chose to do.
|
@Leon, you were right and like I said at the time, I was prepared for this to go badly and thus didn't have anything invested until I was to actually move in. But you're right, this does make us look bad, maybe we'll still have something good come out of it.
The Newcastle(?) house will be done by the group as opposed to one person in charge, so hopefully we can avoid bullshit like this again.
|
This is being done by the group gimble, You have made 0 effort to be a part of the group, as you yourself just said (nothing invested) I've been online every evening that I haven't been working.
There is no drama here, people who get told no will always find ways to rationalise it in other ways. I'd do the same.
The group is fine, the world isn't on fire, and we have the right people involved.
|
So whats the battle.net accounts for the new players in the house? Can we expect some good talent coming out of it?

Can you explain why one of the guys have bought a plane ticket and some one else was about to quit his job? Surely they didn't do this to create drama.
Surely you could of told them in a more professional way rather then uploading a txt file and linking them. Doesn't matter if you have the right people but if you have lead others on and handled this way your going to have zero community back.

In gimble's defense you made it sound from the beginning like this was going to be a group of people paying their own way living the dream.
To me it seemed like a place where you could pursue this dream without having to worry about the expectations of a sponsor. Now it just seems like another progaming house where results will be expected.
Beyond this, why would a sponsor require you to only have 4 people? Why can't other people join in and pay their way, which seemed like the original intent. Just looks like you're making this into some exclusive team.
Money corrupts, I guess. Still awesome that you were able to organize a new team, wish it was under better circumstances. I was really looking forward to this.

So many assumptions! slow down.
Group A consists of the people who have actively put in effort to form some level of friendships with others in the group(and actively play the game). We all agree that once we have a fully functioning and stable core, we can expand if the benefit is there.
If by exclusive team you mean, people who actually show SOME effort towards their "passion" then yes, it's exclusive, for the good of the people who actually care.
Answering a couple of questions with one word answers, and then making no attempt to chat, or play with anyone else in the group isn't a great sign. If that simple level of effort can't be shown, what else do i have to go on? Why should i take the chance of worsening the environment by including someone who's just along for the ride and doesn't really care.
Perhaps gimble did care, but he didn't make any attempt at showing it, and when we have people taking a lot of effort to get here, i don't want to let them down by including people who can't be bothered to invest even a small bit of time.
I hope this makes sense.

It does. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Gimble had made it sound like he got royally shafted and I wasnt able to see your post after his while typing my original response up. Unfortunate in any case, but thank you again for clearing this up. Was setting up to be really disappointed

The only guy with a job, is handing his notice in next weekend, and then after the contractual 4 weeks, he'll be joining us. The guy with a plane ticket from Athens to London is also on board. There really is no drama, it's just easier to deflect than to accept.
I wish the guys who didn't make it all the best, and if you remember from the original post 2+ months ago, one of my hopes was that other people would finally take the initiative to start their own houses and get practising! It's great for sc2 and the UK scene if they want to put that level of effort in!
_______ Oh as to the sponsor paying 4 people point in gimble's post i have absolutely NO IDEA where that came from 0_o, nothing like that has ever been said, and i've maintained from day one, that if we are to get ANY support from a sponsor, it would only be once we have something to offer.
A house with people in it will make a nice start
