TeamLiquid TeamSpeak 3 Server
UPDATE: We have moved TS servers to a new and more stable host. You will need to re-authenticate. The new address is: teamliquid.typefrag.com:5310
TL TeamSpeak 3 Server is now up and running! This server currently has 150 user slots and is open to anyone with a TL forum account.
To download TeamSpeak, visit http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads
You can optionally link your TL account to your TS3 account to gain extra permissions such as the ability to create your own user channels. To do this, join the "Get Verified" channel on the server and follow the instructions in the description.
Any questions, comments, or issues can be posted in this thread. I will be updating this post with any updated news regarding the TS3 server, FAQ's, and tutorials.

A: Yes, please PM 'TheMango' on TL or message him on teamspeak. All TL members will also have the ability to create their own 'temporary' channels (channel disappears if no one is in it) in 'User Channels'. To create your own temporary channel, go into 'User Channels', right click on 'User Channels' -> Create Sub-Channel -> Type in a name and password (optional) -> click 'OK'.
Q: Can someone without a teamliquid,net forum account still use the TeamSpeak server?
A: Yes and No. As of now, guest accounts will be able to connect to the TeamSpeak server, but will not be able to create their own temporary channels.
Q: What is the TL TS3 Server IP/Port information?
A: teamliquid.typefrag.com / Port: 5310
Q: Can I use a different TS3 name/nick than my TL.net forum account?
A: Yes, you can change your nick to whatever you want, but it will still be linked to your forum account.

You can use voice activation, but if you prefer push to talk, I usually use the Capslock key.

but how do we get a Brood War subsection? the lack of it makes me kinda depresed.
Like, one general BW, maybe one channel for spazzing during SPL and starleague and privates for games.

There is a 'Tournament Stream Chat (Broodwar)' Channel. You are also free to create your own temprary channel in the 'User Channels' section at the bottom.

I was wondering if the "NewYork TL" group meets the requirements for a permanent channel
Its not a huge section of TL but it really comes in handy. We use it daily, mostly for chatting and communicating during games. I co-host New York City LAN/Tournaments so the channel would also be used to talk and organize the events with the other hosts, casters and etc. We used to use the vent server but our channel was closed down and since the vent server is being closed down completely anyways, we moved to team speak.
We usually use the channel in the late afternoon until 3 in the morning. Sometimes we even pull all-nighters to watch the GSL stream together and discuss the matches. The problem is, eventually everyone has to go work or go to school and then the channel gets closed and we have to make it again each day.
It'd be really helpful if the New York TL group meets the requirements for a permanent server.
If it does just let me know, I'll pm you the request.

also try right ctrl, or numpad 0 for fps players. For sc2, you could try to go with the one left of the normal 1, i think its ~ in us keyboard layout. Just choose something that doesn't have any effect on what you're doing usually, and what you can easily reach.
When you have a keyboard with extra keys, you could also set it to be a weird key or even a combination that you just can never possibly reach or press otherwise, and put that on a macro key. For instance, since my keyboards volume wheel turns down my system volume, i've added a weirdo alt ctrl page up/down global hotkey to adjust only my winamp volume, and i've bound both these combinations on macro keys. So i have "winamp volume up / down" keys on my keyboard so to speak.

I definitely prefer the grave key aka "~" since
A. It's not used for much
B. It's on the left side of the keyboard right next to your favorite control groups
C. It's just a real cool key xD

Personally, I prefer to set the PTT key or voice activation depending on what's going on. Casting/not gaming I tend to use voice. For a shooter I try to find an unused key near the left (V, F, or G preferred), and for SC Caps Lock is my preference.

Troubleshooting - Teamspeak works all fine and dandy when I start it up, but after being on for a while (like when coming back from a long afk) my push-to-talk hotkey refuses to work until I restart the client.
The current hotkey is mouse-button 5 (browser-forward) and I'll be kinda unhappy with any other hotkey, I've been using this one for years on ventrilo.

I have identified on my homecomputer, but didnt export my identity on an usb-stick or something. Now im on another computer for a week and cant identify again. Is there any way to fix this?

I'm like a total noob with mics, But i've noticed my mic isn't.. Well "decent". when i ran a sound test i can't hear myself because im talking too "Soft". Yet i am speaking normal.
Ofcourse buying a better headphone+mic IS a solution, but i'm looking for any methods that doesn't involve buying a new headphone (also the one im wearing IS absolute crap, bought it for like 14.99.) but i don't feel like buying a 40$+ for just Teamspeak.
Any suggestions?

restarting TS is the only fix I know that works

There should be a mic boost option in your audio/volume settings in windows

I recommend using the thumb button on your mouse (if your mouse has a thumb button) since the right thumb is a free finger.
Personally I prefer to use voice activation so I can do it hands free, but I strongly recommend against using a keyboard key.
If you are looking for a good mouse with a right thumb key, check out the Razer Death Adder. 2 thumb buttons so you can set back thumb to teamspeak chat and front thumb to SC2 in-game voice chat.

I believe you can have multiple instances of TS open (it opens up as another tab within your TS client).

It says I'm authenticated but yet I still keep getting disconnected for being idle every 15 minutes? Is there any way to fix it?

Got a new computer, forgot to export the settings, so resetted the token, can connect with a tick next to my name, but website still says unauthenticated oO

Had to reset my identity however the privilege token said it was already in use when i tried to relog on with it.

I connected to TS3 using the link on the http://www.teamliquid.net/mytlnet/teamspeak.php page. Then the next day i try to use it again but it doesnt work anymore cuz i dont have privilage key. How do i get this privelege key so i can go on Team Liquids TS everyday?

and I see its mass dropping people and reconnecting them

my computer was going insane and i really needed to use it, so i formatted my computer asaply and never remembered to backup my identity for teamspeak, so now i cant validate my account anymore
can anyone help me with this?

Did something happen to the server? I cannot connect, saying failed to connect.

EDIT: resetting my token for a third time actually worked, ignore the rest!
On the teamspeak3 server thread it say's that I am "Authenticated", but it still kicks me after 10 minutes and I do not have the green check mark. I followed the instructions. I've even tried to reinstall everything, request a new verification code, and start from scratch. Shouldn't I be fine since it says I am now "authenticated"?

I don't know if anyone had that on firefox, but if you have the protocol don't match a program(or something like this) do the following :
Go to about:config
Say yes if prompted
Press Right Mouse button
Select New > New Boolean
First, we ask you the name, type : "network.protocol-handler.expose.ts3server" (without the quotes)
Set the value to false.
Accept then get back to http://www.teamliquid.net/mytlnet/teamspeak.php
Click Connect to TL Teamspeak
Then press choose the programm, and go to where ts3client_win32.exe is located, and select it.
Now it should work

When i first connected to teamspeak and refreshed the site i dident get authenticated and now i cant use my privlegde key so i cant authenticate so i dont know what to do, help?

Alright, I've tried just about everything I can think of.
With the update of early August, all of a sudden I could not hear other people on TS. I've gone through every setting I can think of, and still can't hear people. Did the most recent update after some time away, and same issue.
Just re-installed, and still same issue. People on TS can hear me fine, they cannot hear me.
Volume settings are fine, speakers are fine, nothing is muted etc etc.
Any possible ideas?
edit: did a third reinstall and it works... no idea what the hell was wrong still

After struggleling with blizzard's in game communication software me and my 2v2 partner tried teamspeak, and used teamspeak server.It worked flawlessly, thanks TL and teamspeak for the TL server !

I joined. Had a really good experience with a gent who was very helpful named Steveowen21 (trademark symbol after it)
Then a channel moderated named "Jen" I believe came on and turned me off using the TL teamspeak ever again. She was rude and antagonistic. Just powertripping. She kicked me from chat and then when I came back steve and other members were explaining to her that I didn't have any attitude, it was her. I began to start regular friendly conversation with other members and she kept bugging me. So I told her off and left. Won't be coming back again.\
I don't post a lot on tl forums but I hear from rl friends and other players that they can be kind of hard-nosed. I didn't expect that on the teamspeak. Someone should take a look at this 'operator'.

I'm pretty sure you didn't join the TL TS server and joined the default TS server. There are no TL staff named 'Jen' on TL or TS.

I join and have tried reinstalling, I got an access key twice now I think and everytime I log on teamspeak now it says something along the lines of " insufficient permissions" it wont let me talk or type anything, Help please!
EDIT : How do you use the key so I can have sufficient permissions ? I guess that is the fix but I'm not sure how to / where to use it.
EDIT 2 : Now whenever I enter it says "Invalid key or has already been used" I Guess I accidentally used all my keys trying to get it to work, now it doesn't recognize this one? Plz some mod help me ! I really wanted to get on TS T_T

IRazgriz, and Somber Azure are both very childish and rude user.
They hang out in the LOL channels.. harrassing other users and such. There tone with new people is very surprising. I won't be in thier channel, and I wish they wont come into one that im in.

They hang out in the LOL channels.. harrassing other users and such. There tone with new people is very surprising. I won't be in thier channel, and I wish they wont come into one that im in.

uh, instead of posting like this, you should PM them on the forums or talk to a staff member on TeamSpeak (and there's almost always one in TL LoL channel).
and while I'm here, the TS server is borked again just checked and it has returned nope
edit: while i'm at it, i'm still missing a good chunk of permissions which I'm pretty sure I should have (including the critical "move client between channels" permission)

Do these crashes happen with all ts servers? The unstability of this particular server is really bad.

I'm on the TL Teamspeak server quite often, and in my experience the servers very rarely crash, although the crashes seem to have become more frequent as of late.
I am also missing several permissions as well, as the channel admin of TL Diamond Bar.

There something i can do, like debug the ts server for whoever... to find out reason and a solution to fix the crashing..I'm pretty good at resolving computer/network issues.
I do it for a living and have 2 BS Degrees in computer subjects.
If a team leader would like to pm me or whatnot, I check the forums atleast once a day.
I am on the TS server alot these days and never experienced any problems.

We've been lending out the Team Legacy TS for all of the minecrafters and BF3'ers for a few months now due to max capacities in the Liquid server (we had over 100 TL players in the bf3 beta) While I suggest first attempting to the Team Liquid one first a few times, if you and some friends still want to get together your welcome to use ours temporarily until theirs is working.

We've reached out to TeamSpeak regarding the issues, and they are actually aware of it and trying to fix it. Apparently they have been getting DDoSed and are working on blocking it.

Hi I'm having a problem in the setup wizard. I want to set up my voice activation level but when I begin the test the blue dot isn't glowing but when I move the slider to the left enough the voice repeats over and over and over. When I'm playing a music in winamp and I move the slider to the left then teamspeak catches my music and also repeats it.
I'm not sure what the problem is, could it be my microphone is too sensitive and catches sounds from my earphone?

Maybe you somehow have what you hear as output setting? Do you stream?

You told me it'd only take a minute and I again explained that I didn't have the power to do that which you asked but you could send a PM to Mango with the name of the guy and the time and say I said it was okay to unban him.
You then threatened to cause a scene if I didn't unban him immediately so I started ignoring you.
In future don't use somebody else's channels. The channels on the server marked EVE are for the players of the game EVE. If they want to use those channels and you refuse to leave you'll be removed.

You banned him from the server because we was sitting in a public EVE channel, which was the game we was playing.... just because we wasn't playing with your team it seemed that we got booted from the channel because you demanded we left the channel as well as Perm Ban my friends IP address from using the server, You gave us no more than a minute to leave the channel, also instead of a Perm Ban you could've just placed him in a different channel, we also didn't refuse to leave you simply took the power into your own hands and banned him.
Not once did I say i'd "make a scene", I simply asked if there was anything you can do about your mistake of banning him over something silly, I've sent a PM to Mango regarding unbanning him from the Server.
Anyway.... We're just posting to get him access back to the TS server, nothing more.

So you PERMANTLY banned him simply for using a public channel marked eve, when you could have simply moved him from the channel. Not overdoing it at all? And fyi, he was playing eve at the time which is why he couldn't tab out the instant you required to move from 'your' channel.

Just because a channel doesn't have a password on it does not mean it is public. The channel in question was made by me for the purpose of joint ops with non tl members. The reason I had the ability to make said channel was because I specifically asked Mango if I could have it so I could set up and administrate channels for the teamliquid eve corp which I run. If you would like your own channel I suggest you ask for one, if you would like to use mine then I suggest you are very prompt in leaving when asked.
Regarding the ban, it seemed the simplest and most expedient way of getting him out at the time. I told Chrono how to get him unbanned and okayed it at the time several weeks ago. I have no idea why it is being brought up now.

I remember this incident because I was there. He was named iBLACKMAMBA, which is the name of someone else in our corp (who wasn't there) who had hotmic. I asked, told, then yelled at him several times to disable his mic. Both of you were asked to leave, neither of you did and he never fixed hotmic.
Additionally, as Kwark said, it's a TL EVE corp channel, not a public TS channel for EVE. If you are the only two using that channel, and it's not yours, what you should do is just leave it and make a user channel instead.

I've cleared all bans - next time use some common sense and if someone on TL staff or a channel owner asks you to move channels, you should do so. You can also setup your own channel under User Channels at the bottom of the channel list.

My friend is trying to authenticate his Teamspeak, he has created an account and clicked the connect in the TS thread. Then he refreshes the page but he only sees not authenticated. then it locks him out after the timeout period and he doesn't have a retrieve new authentication token button either. I can't remember how I got my account authenticated. Would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

You have to be in the user channel section first (move yourself in there, then try it). If still doesn't work, make sure you are authenticated (green check mark next to your name on TS)

My friends and I have been hanging out using the TL teamspeak for the past 2 weeks. However recently the server has become rather unstable and crashes happen almost once a day. Someone should probably take a look at it.

I would like to thank whoever made the Onyx Gaming Channel in the TS a permanent channel. We use that channel almost everynight, and one night when we logged on we were shocked to find it in the permanent section instead of having to re-create it. My only issue is that without it being a user channel, we have no control over who joins the channel. Most of the time it's fine when someone new joins and is just wondering what we are all doing. But on a rare occasion we have that person that joins just blasting music or doing something else distruptive. Is it at all possible for me to gain the ability to have a little control just over the Onyx Channel? I would only want to be able to kick people who are being distruptive, and that's it. Either way, we're grateful that the channel is now permanent.

The datacenter (which is located in NY) hosting the server lost power during the night when the backup diesel generators ran out of feul. They are in the process of moving the server to a different datacenter which has not been affected by the hurricane.

I've never used the TL Teamspeak. I have TS3 installed, if that matters.

Yea, that's a separate issue that came up when the NY data center went down due to Hurricane Sandy. Our authentication bot went down. We're looking at fixing this soon.

It's also linked to your local machine so if you reformated/installed a new HD, it would be reset. I'll add you next time I see you on.

So I am unable to connect to the TL teamspeak server and I could use some help!
When I try to connect to the server, I am met with "Failed to resolve hostname, unable to connect to ts3.teamliquid.net."
I tried flushing my dns cache to no avail. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling teamspeak, but it didn't help. I have tried connecting to the server using the ip address and was met with a "failed to connect to server."
I ran a tracert to the server and nothing timed out and I am also able to successfully ping the server.
I don't know anything about networks etc and have just been using googlefu to attempt to troubleshoot this myself, but I appear to be at a dead end.
Oh I should mention I can connect to other teamspeak servers without any problems.

Same here. Can join the server, but can't authenticate since it claims my key has already been used (which it hasn't since I have never been on Teamliquids TS servers before).

I went to the link you have provided Rich and this is what I get.
Previously I had Auth to use the TL.net teamspeak server in the past but that was a long time ago.
Since then I did a full reformat of my hardrive and built a new computer. Furthermore I am using my TL.Net login alias to login to the teamspeak server.

Looks like they moved the server and used SRV records to make the old name work. Unfortunately this doesn't work when using a CNAME. Links have been updated to point to the old name instead of the alias.

I got a new computer about 2 months ago, so I reauthenticated my Teamspeak token to get set up again. However, when I go to connect it just fails to connect. I've tried 5 other servers and they all work so it's just the TL server. Does anyone have any idea what could be happening?

Yes, absolutely certain.

You shouldn't be using an IP since the server IP often changes. Try connecting to teamliquid.typefrag.com:13870 instead, it should redirect you to the correct server.
You could also try connecting to teamliquid.typefrag.com:5310 which is what the current SRV record is pointing to.

The thing is I still can't authenicate. I tried putting in the privilege key but it says it was also used, but I'm still guest status.

well your account isn't authenticated because i quite clearly don't see a tick next to your name like the authenticated people so your identity is saved on another computer/teamspeak/something so you need to request a new token and put that into the "1 time token" thing in the teamliquid address connect

I cannot get authenticated ever time I try to do it manually or what not it ells me the code has already been used.

Yeah problem solved. For some reason it told me i was authenticated on Saturday while i in fact weren't.
Stupid internet doesn't work properly.

I used the server a while back and authenticated and everything. Since then I've reformatted and didn't save my identity. Now I can't re-authenticate. What do I do?
Edit: I guess I am requesting a new token, if someone will oblige me.

its been a long time since ive switched PCs, and this is about number 3 after the one that was authenticated. Is there any way to re-authenticate if I've no way to recover the original identity?

I rewrote the authentication system in a typefrag-proof way. To verify your account, join the "Get Verified!" channel and follow the instructions in the description.

One of my friends said he couldn't connect on 13870, but could on 5870. Not sure what that's about

That usually means they have a broken DNS server that doesn't handle SRV records properly.

This may be a stupid question, but why can't I create a Sub-Channel in User Channels? I got the verified server group, so that shouldn't be the issue.
Edit: Nevermind, I am stupid, I wasn't in the channel, which made me unable to create one >.<

Someone keeps moving the channel and the bot is offline. Can't get it back working because typefrag are awful.
