So I was looking at the automated bad list thread and when I realized there was now 200 pages of bans I got curious as to which admins enacted the most usage of the ban hammer. So could we get a list of maybe the top 20 admins? I'm sure it won't be hard for an admin with access to look up. I would think the proper MySQL statement would look something like this..

You mean that giant spike in the middle? That's Meat banning 56 users in two days. Although haji did ban 121 people over the course of three months, the bans actually came gradually (~2-3 per day), so it's not reflected on this particular chart. That spike of 23 bans in a day is from haji though.

I wonder if the mod/ banling graphs wouldn't be so crowded if you made an arbitrary divide in time- maybe pre and post-SC2 beta for instance. Or somewhere in 2008-2009. That way you can also eliminate people/ flat lines that have been demodded/ resigned.

There are no bans listed for Hungzerg in the ban list. If he was banned with that username, it was before the list came into existence or the bans were stealth bans. I'm pretty sure posts in the automated ban list don't reflect username changes since I still have to account for FA -> Jinro and a couple clantag removals in my code.

all bans are handled as a separate instances, but your previous history is taken into account. So there is no equation for finding out how many more bans you can take before you're perm'd, but each warn/ban makes it more likely the next one is gonna be permanent.

But then at the same time there was what in business would be described as a number of PR disasters. From the statements made against EG to the IdrA banning.
Whether you were in the right or not is irrelevant; the fact is you upset and alienated part of the community.
If you take the community as a whole and continually cut pieces off you're reducing your appeal.
Blizzard don't ban people from their forums unless it's a serious trolling offence. They certainly wouldn't ban someone just for disagreeing with them or just because they felt insulted by the comments, because it reflects back badly on them.
As TL evolves I don't see why the moderation can't evolve too. It's much better to close a thread, or delete a post than it is to ban someone. Because whether they deserved it or not that person is most likely to be pissed off.
There have been some good evolutions like the messages at the top of threads telling people what is appropriate but I think it could be improved further for the benefit of all.

I have better things to do than get flamed by some self-righteous moron in the general forums or get banned for not having the required number of example replays with each post in the strategy forum. Arguing on the internet over questions that have no answer or researching a thesis on SC2 strategy are not my idea of a fun way to spend an afternoon. Do you have examples for this? Bpecause it is TL policy that if you continuously post nothing but one liners you get warned and eventually banned, but we don't ban for opinion.
Funnily enough, the first post of his I found using the search came up as having several lines in it! About the one liners though, those are fine in LR threads. People don't really have time to write long, detailed posts while watching a live game.

I don't think I made myself clear on what I thought was wrong/didn't understand. The thing I don't understand is why it's completely ok to say "Thorzain y u so good, sick push", but it's not ok to say "wasn't impressed by thorzain at all, I hate all-ins"... so on and so forth. Did I make several comments about how I thought nani was outplaying thorzain and thorzain was out of his league? Absolutely, the evidence is undeniable. Did I honestly believe that? Yes, I did. Doesn't matter if I was right or not (which I wasn't, for the record). The LR thread is fiiiiiiilled with comments about how good players are playing. 10$ says that if all my comments were about how good thorzain was, I wouldn't have gotten even warned.

I think the main problem is that live reporting is probably less than 1% of what is being posted in a live report thread. Most LR threads are completely useless regarding their original purpose, because to find that one post that describes what just happened you wade through 8 pages of "OMMMGGG" and "PLAYER XY HWATING!!!" and "lol".

elitist jerks forums is terrible, they make 1 thread and expect u to go through hundreds of pages to find that 1 post that might be what you're looking for. while there was a lot of number crunching and useful info, it was way too hard to find it. basically the thread became a chatroom with different people discussing 8 different things at once.

For the purposes of Spazer's lists, yes, and no. All of the ban data is parses through the Automated Ban List, so unless Spazer is manually adjusting extended or repealed bans, an extended sentence (or reduced sentence, for that matter) would count as +n bans, where n is the number of times the ban duration was changed. Repealed bans are only not counted if the message in the ABL itself is altered to reflect this. I'm talking about a complete editing of the ban message to remove the text that would otherwise be parses. Otherwise, the ban still shows on the list. Happened to me once; was banned by accident, but even after the ban was reverted, I still have two bans instead of one, according to the list. ._.

He doesn't have to rethink his logic, if there are 168 guys with more bans like you than you are at rank #169. The guys with 6 bans would not be #168, the number they get depends on how many guys have more bans, they take the next free number, so if there are 50 guys with 7 or more bans for example all dudes with 6 bans would be number 51. There is no empty space.
It's really upsetting that I'm on this list twice, considering how good a poster I am. Some of the greatest geniuses of history were misunderstood in their time. Likewise, some of the greatest posters must also have been banned.

Is there a way to get anti-bans to show up on the automated ban list so that I can reduce my overall bancount by having a deeply negative bancount on this particular account? It seems like each time I make a post that is so incredibly and indubitably not banworthy that post should be noted in the automated ban list for the world (and bots keeping track) to see.

I'm wondering about that, too. If a ban is permanent shouldn't it be impossible to get two of them? And if those bans get lifted often wouldn't a better word for them be indefinite?

Seeing this list brings back some bad memories of my more irrational moments. (I've had several well deserved temp bans) Overall, the numbers seem surprisingly low to me, considering how popular this website is, how long it's been around, and the standards for quality of threads. I vowed a few years ago to never make a new thread, glad to say that's a promise I've kept. I'm sure I ran out of chances to not be perm banned long ago.

I think i only have one warning so far? Looking back on it I definitely deserved the warning and probably should have gotten a 2 day temp ban for it because it was so stupid. I don't really post all that much, usually just here and there but I think they are usually pretty good posts for the most part.
