EPTBecause there are some roles that each side needs to win, early DotA had a lot of Mario and Luigi pairs on both sides:
1. Crystal Maiden and Lich - Nukes that slow the enemy, and easy access to mana. Since Rylai is on the good guys' side, she gives mana to allies around her (her aura wasn't global back then). On the other hand, since Lich is evil, he takes mana for himself but also denies XP and gold to the enemy.
2. Sven and Wraith King - Tanks with stuns.
3. Lina and Lion - Nuke, stun, and supernuke.
4. Riki and Phantom Assassin - Invisibility. Riki was invisible but decloaked when attacking, while PA was completely invisible save for her shadow ingame but was fully visible on the minimap. You could see her minimap dot clearly and she could be auto attacked and even clicked on, but her model wasn't rendered ingame at Blur 4.
I know there were many, many more mirrored pairs in DotA who have since radically diverged from their good/evil counterparts, but my search-fu fails me. What few links I could find were to really old, defunct sites.
Also, in RoC DotA, the entire hero lineup was mirrored on both sides. My first main hero, Purity's Disciple, had a Scourge counterpart with identical abilities.
Anyway, does anyone else know which other hero pairs exist?
