In the past two days I've had 4 games in which I had to play support(ish) roles. One, as enigma, one, as sandking, one, as omni, and one, just now, as chen. I've also had about 10 games as (primarily) off-lane and one as jungle doom, a couple as mid, etc. I lost two of the first four games and lost two of the other 10. The two losses when I was playing support were just one-sided blowouts. The two losses when I was playing some other role were simply my team feeding too hard and it being impossible to carry + Show Spoiler +

In the enigma game, I get flamed for not getting 5 man blackholes...I get a 4 man blackhole and the rhasta who is not in the blackhole (due to him staying way the fuck back) puts his wards down and kills our viper with them, because he is too dumb to see that the wards are focusing him. We get a team wipe, and a couple towers, but I am still flamed incessantly for his death. This happens a couple more times and the viper continually calls me useless and bad for not being able to land 5-man black holes. Whatever, the game was relatively easy, we still won. Still fucking annoying.

SK game went okay, got my drow really fed, rest of team tried pretty hard to throw, ultimately won somehow by just following drow, stunning and ulting everything that moved and allowing drow to just right click stuff to death.

Omni game...holy shit. I expected to support the safe lane with our fifth pick taking an off-laner, as we already had a furion who wasn't saying anything, and we asked him repeatedly if he was going to jungle, expecting him to. AFTER the game starts, and fifth pick has taken windrunner, furion decides to buy 3 mantles of intelligence and say he's going safe lane with slark. (the fuck?) we have a weaver mid and a windrunner bot, so I help weaver in mid, ward, courier, etc. and get him off to a pretty decent start. Top and bot feed. Hard. Furion flames me for having no boots when he: #1, went top lane with slark, #2, didn't get a point of treants. Ever. (even at level 10) #3 built 3 mantles of intelligence into treads into deso. #4 fucked our lanes all to hell. #5 fed like a mofo.

Now I remember why the last time I purposely picked a support was over 3 months ago.

Even in the games I win, if I'm playing a support I just don't feel the desire to play given how much flame you receive simply for existing.

e: it's usually minimal when playing a carry though, because people don't flame you if your KDR is positive and you're just destroying everybody. They only flame you if they find that you are inferior to them in some way (e.g. items, k/d/a, whatever...) as a support you're almost always worse off in every statistic, so I find I get flamed consistently more. I also find it harder to win as support, but winning doesn't matter to me as long as the game was enjoyable

Inciting teamspirit usually works though, and letting the complainer not lose face. Many mellow down, and you get quite a positive reaction, and many have fun - even when losing, because you fought as a team, and fell as one.

Secondly, I'm really tired of how little time you have at the start of a game to coordinate picks with your team. It sucks having to wait more than a minute or two to start a game, but there has to be a healthy middle ground for making sure your team composition doesn't automatically lose to the other team.

Lastly I'm really really sick of people who play support heroes not playing support. In the game I was just in (with the terrible meepo) there was a witch doctor who only bought a handful of wards all game, never upgraded the courier, and whined about needing items. He wound up competing with me for farm, sniping a ton of last hits from me while I'm solo clearing a creep wave, and ends the game with 2 bracers, phase boots, and a shadow blade and claims he has "nothing". It's not like I pick a carry every game and whine about how bad my team is. I play support far more frequently than I do a carry, sometimes I want to do something different than support my teammates 100%. For once I'd like to play a game as a carry and have a team that actually gives me a chance to perform and doesn't compete with me for every last hit.
