No reason to go sli/crossfire @ 1920x1080, are you in US or Canada and if US, do you have a microcenter nearby?

What is a good way to store PC components? My hard drives that i ordered came today and i am slowly ordering other parts (waiting for deals and such for like black friday) is it okay to just keep them in the box? and does temperature of the environment matter? ( i only know that i shouldnt throw them onto the carpet due to electrical discharge)
|
They sit fine in warehouses and distribution ships and trucks and stores and whatnot. So long as they're not on, storage conditions are pretty lenient with respect to temperatures and conditions and so on, though some extreme conditions wouldn't be ideal. In boxes is of course fine. Preferably indoors and somewhere temperature controlled, but it shouldn't be a huge deal.

Alright so, I shouldve said 1000$ for the unit and up to 1500$ with the monitor and peripheials. I want to stream and have a good HD flat 60fps on bf4 high or dota 2 high. Maybe i need to spend more on that. Also I dont know what crossfire/sli is i just said yes, sorry guys for the trouble there
Thank yoy very much for the feedback! I would love more options it would be gladly appreciated. I plan to buy this in early december or middle december.

^new gk110 revision! Might not be much, but maybe relevant. We'll see if it actually changes anything, or is just a factory OC to 200mhz lower than people clock anyway

Anandtech has some good articles and some really really mind bogglingly terrible ones (looking at you haswell mobo reviews)
www.overclock.net good for community info, everything's thrown there and if you say something stupid and then go get a drink there'll be 15 replies yelling at you when you get back, so it tends to be pretty good for finding decent information (though there's various fanboy wars in hardware communities)

I would guess you maybe want a 4770k and r9 290 then, depending how 290 turns out on release and when aftermarket cooled versions are available. Streaming bf4 might be really difficult though, depending how much stuff changed from earlier. The beta i played had poor performance (average fps reading 80 at times, frametimes below 60fps) which would be impacted further by streaming, and also had massive CPU load which is a pain to work around if you're looking to make a high end stream. Something basic like 1280x720, 30fps stream output with good quality is easy though

So much q_q, I managed to squeeze everything into $1000 too. Well, it defijnitely opens up more options if it's $1500 total. ^^
4770k probably recommended now, then again that processor is hard to fit into a $1000 build where you can neglect your video card either. Especially if you overclock. I just realized that in my previous build I completely forgot the cooler by the way.

I wouldnt bank on this but OP did say he plans on buying around december. Maybe he should wait around till Christmas deals? pretty sure he will end up shaving off $100-$300 total from somewhere.
im pretty sure a i5 4670 can stream on 1080p (the "source" settings on twitch) seen some people do it. also, ive seen many reviews stating that the CX series from corsair is a horrible PSU, and i dont think he should get that in a system that he wants to OC and do SLI/CF. you get what u pay for with this one for sure.

Yeah, I agree. CX430 is fine if you're going for a budget build; meaning single GPU set up with no overclock. Some reviews might be negative but I can't seem to find them. It's definitely a budget PSU but it has the advantage of being a PSU made by Corsair so it's not horrible and it won't fry your system. I know that at least JonnyGuru seem to say the PSU isn't too bad: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story4&reid=214 CX430 is the only PSU you should for the CX series imo, there are better options for more expensive/powerful PSUs.
i5 4670 can definitely stream at 1080p if you're using OBS, I think. However BF4 is a very CPU-hungry game so streaming 1080p while playing might be too much for the 4670. Maybe the 4670k with a good OC might be able to stream something decent, not sure. Either way, for a high quality stream the 4770k with hyperthreading is preferable anyway. Thing is that it's pretty expensive and if you're getting such a CPU then you're also getting a system which supports OC. ^^
Not sure of the price range of the R9 290 by the way. What card can it be compared to?
|
It's expected to be ~$450 so inbetween a GTX 770 4GB and GTX 780.
|
I'll be interested in hearing more reviews about it I guess.
Anyway, update on my own situation with the HTPC which refuses to connect. I looked up what network adapter my desktop had (since it works perfectly fine) and it's apparently the same network adapater the HTPC has. It's the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. So, I decided it would be worth trying to install the exact same drivers that my desktop uses on the HTPC.
Installation went smoothly, absolutely no problem, however it still doesn't work. The HTPC still acts as if no ethernet cable is plugged in. I'm still getting the light blinking slowly on my router. The drivers and network adaptors on both the HTPC and my desktop are exactly the same.
I also tried bringing down the HTPC into the kitchen pantry, where the router is. Plugging the HTPC directly into the router works perfectly fine. It's only when I bring the HTPC back up to my parents room that it acts as if no cable is plugged in. My desktop, in that same room, works fine. Both computers are running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I'm stumped as fuck.
I'm considering buying an ethernet card but I have this sinking feeling that it won't solve the issue. I'm not supposed to buy an ethernet card, the onboard network adapter of the HTPC's motherboard should be more than sufficient. It doesn't make any sense.

350$ for that cpu wow, expensive. Thats okay! If I upped my budget to 1500 alone for just the PC, I would definetly be able to make a great computer for streaming hd correct ? From the looks of it, you guys tell me it would be difficult to do.

I heard something about 780 TI, anyone know launch date and if its good or not?(compared to current 780/titan) Since you guys seem to know ALOT about this stuff, do you guys think it will be worth buying 780 TI instead of 780? will the performance be much better or just meh slightly? need to know since im horny to buy new pc parts
|
Details are scarce at this point.
Because it will be slotting in on the high end, it will be priced at premium status relative to performance, i.e. it'll be a worse value than most of the lineup.
But rather than looking at what they have available, you should be looking at what delivers the performance you need. For example, if you really really can't stand aliasing and turn up AA in all games a lot, you may need something more powerful than someone else (and in particular, depending on resolution, maybe more VRAM). If you try to keep at higher frame rates or play at very high resolutions, the same goes.
These high-end offers are all way overkill for the "typical" gamer on a 60 Hz 1080p screen or less playing the latest games. If you're trying to buy on the high end so you don't have to upgrade as often, don't. That's a bad idea. Just keep buying midrange performance cards as needed as new tech rolls in rather than hoping some overpriced, power-hungry dinosaur will keep you going many years from now.
In any case, check pricing history on the GTX 780. If it hasn't dropped a lot yet, you definitely don't want to buy one now. Price is coming down to leave room for the GTX 780 Ti.
|
I find it kind of silly to buy any computer part during its premium status. I mean, pretty the biggest thing that defines a component (especially GPUs I feel) is its price. Take a 770 and drop it $250 and it pretty much breaks the market. Not because the technology in it is ground-breaking, not because it has something special that other cards don't. It would break the market simply because of its amazing price. A GPU's value really comes down to how well it's priced, which makes premium prices at launch completely stupid. Unless the card offers something other cards don't, but in which case its intrinsic value goes up anyway.
|
I want to play 144hz 1080 or higher atleast 2 monitors. I want to play every game out there and money isnt much of a concern. I'm not buying 4 titans or something stupid but SLI 780 would be fine. just curious as how to much better the TI is gonna be and if it's worth waiting for that. I dont really care about not upgrading often, i just want new stuff and bigger epeen until i have to buy new stuff to keep my epeen Also if the 780 TI isnt that much better, will the 780 still suffice for whatever game basicly?
edit: oh and i'm definetly waiting until atleast 4:th december until buying anything so hopefully prices have changed? idk
also i only own a CX 750 will that be enough for something like a 780 sli+ssd&hdd+haswell oc?

Someone on overclocker.uk apparently has a Sapphire 290 (non-x). I figure he'll be running some benches sooner or later.
