$100 pricedrop on 1080 (should put price/perf much closer to in line with 1070 and 1060)

1080ti launching next week - slightly cut down titan xp (12GB 384-bit gddr5x cut to 11GB 352-bit, rest the same) for $700.

Looks to be faster than the Titan XP since it's clocked higher. I thought Titan was like 20-25% faster that the 1080, and supposedly 1080ti is 35% better (when looking at the benchmarks in Linus Tech Tips video it seemed closer to 40%).

Either way, looks like a really nice card, and I'm happy that Nvidia brought the GTX 1080 price within reason (500 for 1080, 380 for 1070, and 250 for 1060). If you normalize the GTX1060 6GB at a value of 1 for performance/dollar, then the GTX1070 is around 0.87 and the GTX1080 is now around 0.82. But hey, if you want to play at high fps on 1440p or 4K, you'll be needing those cards.

1080 is 2560:160:64 w/ 320GB/s of bandwidth

1080ti is 3584:224:88 with 484GB/s of bandwidth

1.4x, 1.4x, 1.375x, 1.5125x (less OC headroom on that last one?) so 1.4x overall clock for clock should be roughly correct.

Titan-x is marginally faster (or similar, more ROP's but worse memory?) than 1080ti clock for clock but stuck on reference card.

It seems that there are some Ryzen leaks (it's gonna be unveiled tomorrow and we'll have independant reviews which is nice!): https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/5wxhj3/leaked_amd_ryzen_press_briefing_slides_confirm_r7/

The games benchmarks are not super interesting because they are mostly GPU bound, but it seems to confirm that Ryzen is of very good value if you were in the need of an 'affordable' HEDT CPU. It'll probably shake things up in that segment.

this screen from a french site seems to indicate higher than expected memory latency, but I don't really know what it could translate to in real world usage?

There is another leak but again not very interesting (https://videocardz.com/66684/amd-ryzen-7-1700x-review-leaks-out) in games because it seems GPU bound yet again.

Last but not least, + Show Spoiler +
https://twitter.com/CPCHardware/status/836967901399744513
shows a rather funny BIOS, I don't know if that's an usual case for press motherboards.

1080Ti and the subsequent price drops seem nice! I'm not yet in the need for such a card tho so there'll probably be one or two new gen/architectures of cards before I look into it with the intent of buying it.

98ns is extremely slow for memory. Skylake does about 50ns with 3000-3200mhz at c15-16 and about 70ns with 2133c15 IIRC

If that's how the 2133 performs (the bandwidth numbers seem to match 2133) then i hope there are plenty of benches w/ faster RAM. Especially with 8c16t to feed, dual channel 2133c15 sounds like it could starve the CPU a lot.

Large swings in memory latency and/or bandwidth can affect performance in some games or programs while not affecting others

Seems like the silicon taps out at 4ghz, not a great sign for the more mainstream 1400x/1600x. Too much voltage leakage going past 3.8ghz seems like a GloFo issue. I don't think ryzen 5 it will be competitive with intel in mainstream gaming segments.

Doubling core count from 2 to 4 will have a much larger and more consistent impact on performance than doubling it from 4 to 8 would for workloads with limited parallelism, especially when all of those CPU's have SMT/HT as well

Is it me or is MSI lacking in GTX 1080? Their base clock is not that competitive. I had an impression they're a serious brand because I'm quite happy with my GTX 980 Twin Frozr.

Edit: I've just checked base clock for my GTX 980. MSI is still not on top of list. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/#c=185&sort=d5&page=1

Base clock is not very relevant. Boost clocks a bit more so, they don't actually run at the boost clock though. Most people that care are overclocking and looking at things like power limits and voltages that you can set.

IIRC the msi 970 gaming could do 220w and 1.25v while some other well branded cards (like the Strix) were capped at 180-200w and/or 1.2 - 1.225v. In practice the gains from this were pretty small but notable to some benchmark guys, maybe 2% more FPS at max OC's.

I'm looking to power an i5-7600 (the non-k version) and an RX 480. 550 watts should be more than enough, right?

Currently looking at a Seasonic G-series 550W.

Yes, more than enough for that and some significantly more power hungry upgrades

Guys, I messed up, and I'm wondering if there's a solution I can't think of myself:

Got myself a new motherboard and a 7th gen intel cpu, but apparently a B150M Pro4 only supports 7th gen after a BIOS update. But I don't know how to update the BIOS without having a CPU in there... Any ideas? Or I should just run to the closest computer shop that might have CPUs lying around?

Quick Google check seems to show that your motherboard needs to support Q-Flash Plus. If you don't have that, then you might have to use some temporary CPU. I can't confirm or deny if that's true.

Yeah, probably the easiest case is to pop by a/the shop and have them do it. Or find a friend who might have a skylake in their pc.
I had the same situation when i ordered my Broadwell for a Z97 board, I had the place i ordered from (datagate) flash the bios on the mobo, twas like 20€ extra.

Any suggestions for a 1080p G-sync monitor? I'd prefer 24 inches, but I'm open to larger sizes.

Hi guys! I'm from the Philippines and my little brother wants to buy himself a solid gaming/school laptop. He's been doing a lot of research and he's narrowed his choices down to the following because of bang-for-buck and availability here. I'm more of a desktop dinosaur so I really have no idea but who better to ask than you?

Either one of these Acer Aspires or the Dell 7567

I'm thinking of maybe getting the Predator for myself in May. What you think?

Thanks everybody!

I have a build from 2012 for which I am pretty sure I have a failing graphics card (I am still trying to verify this for sure). Assuming that this is the case, I am trying to decide whether it makes sense to simply replace the graphics card with a new model or if it is worthwhile to make other hardware upgrades given their age. Are the other components so limiting at this point that it doesn't make sense getting a top of the line graphics card?

I have also been considering a ssd, so maybe this is the time do that as well.

What is your current build?
Intel Core i5-2500 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
SAPPHIRE 100314-3L Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache
ASRock H61M/U3S3 LGA 1155 Intel H61 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s
Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W Continuous Power Supply
Team Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333

What is your monitor's native resolution?
1080p

What is your budget?
$100-200, unless I can be convinced that upgrading other components is worthwhile.

What country will you be buying your parts in?
United States

If you have any brand or retailer preferences, please specify.
Amazon or Newegg

What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings?
Mostly Dota2 and Overwatch. Possibly some graphics heavy single player like Dark Souls.

What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming?
Watching video, audio editing

Do you intend to overclock?
No

Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire?
No

I'd recommend picking up the SSD, even if it's a slow one. The difference between an SSD and a mechanical HD is mind blowing. Booting up is much faster and everything from web browsing to simple things like opening up windows explorer is just snappier and more responsive.

For graphics cards, an RX480 4GB model should fall within that budget. The 8 GB model sometimes comes close to $200 so if you don't have a strict budget and you're willing to go above that, you could go with that or a GTX 1060 6GB model (I would not recommend the 3GB model though, at that point you may as well go with RX480 4GB).

For example, a quick Amazon search turned this up:
https://www.amazon.com/XFX-RADEON-Graphics-Backplate-RX480M8BFA6/dp/B01H3P9CKI/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1490391086&sr=1-3&keywords=rx480

Under $200 after rebates...

If you want to save some money (so you can fit an SSD in the budget!) you could try an RX470. It doesn't max everything out, but you could run most games in high-ish settings and still have an awesome experience

I'm finally in a situation where buying a desktop makes sense, and I could use some help selecting the components. I can wait a little bit if it makes sense to do so, it's not an urgent need.

What is your budget?
about $1000. This is not a hard limit.

What is your monitor's native resolution?
2160p (I'll be using my TV as the monitor).

What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings?
Any new AAA games. It doesn't need to be at high settings or 60 fps.

What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming?
Watching movies, general web browsing.

Do you intend to overclock?
Yes, if it is in the budget and will help performance.

Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire?
No.

Do you need an operating system?
Yes.

Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget?
I need a wireless keyboard+mouse, which should be part of the budget.

If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify.
I'd like to place this computer in the entertainment stand under my TV, so it can't be very tall (I have about 12 inches of vertical space). I would prefer only an SSD for storage (it doesn't need to be very large, either 256 or 512GB should be fine). If going with the smaller SSD will allow for a better graphics card, then I'll go with the smaller one.

What country will you be buying your parts in?
USA

If you have any retailer preferences, please specify.
None.

I have an old system I built about seven years ago. While it can still run the games I play the most (dota/overwatch), it struggles to play current single player games like Dark Souls III and newer. I am trying to figure out if I can get by for five or so more years with a new GPU or if there is no GPU that will fit my system that is worth upgrading to. I am looking to spend around $200 (in the US). This is not necessarily time sensitive, I could wait till better deals this summer or later.

What is your current build?
AMD Phenom II x6 1055T overclocked to 3.5GHz + cooler (CPU-Z says it is a 1050T but I don't think those exist?)
Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard
Radeon HD 6850
20GB DDR3 ram + 1TB hard drive
my moniter is running in 1360x768 currently - ASUS VK222H Black 22" 2 ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor - Maximum Resolution 1680 x 1050
Running Windows 7 x64

I have an old mid size Antec 300 case, the current GPU fits with not much room to spare. I would estimate there is 8.5in x 6in of space maximum without serious changes.
My PSU (SeaSonic M12II 520 Bronze EVO Edition 520W) is connected to my GPU with a 6 pin (2x3) cable and there are only some 5 pin (5x1) connections unused on the PSU. Is this another issue I will run into looking to upgrade?
Are there any more complications I need to look into like the connections between the board and the graphics card? Thanks for any help.
I can already see the ending
