There was a brief time, in the dark days, when you had to worry about RAM and HDD compatibilities, but I'm pretty sure the memory slots are standard to the point of "just make sure it's not laptop" and if it's not a SATA you don't want to go there. The resources in this thread from the regulars are awesome, you should be okay. (Also, PC Parts Picker has great "show only compatible" option, so even the above is probably moot.) + Show Spoiler + Drives man. My old laptop just missed SATA - the drive is dying and there's just about no way I'm going to find another 2.5" IDE drive (I'd be willing to buy.). SSD? Forget it.

Current Build: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz 8GB RAM PNY GTX 650 Ti 1GB Corsair 650W PSU Native Resolution: 1920 x 1080 Reason for Upgrade: I want to be able to run everything on Ultra for SCII smoothly, and possibly run future games on High Settings at least. (With mid-high FPS) Budget: Around $200 would be preferable, but I'm open to suggestions! Country: USA Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

Your CPU is. You should consider overclocking. If your motherboard supports it and you have a sufficient cooler raising your BLCK from 266 to 333 would have massive gains in performance (2.4Ghz/1067RAM/FSB vs 3Ghz/1333RAM/FSB). You would need to research further into it however. E: Consider this: I have a Core 2 Extreme X6800. It's a dual-core version of what you have, except the CPU multiplier is unlocked. It's 2.93Ghz/1067RAM/FSB stock. I get 28.17 FPS average in GTA 4's benchmark. When I up the BLCK to 333 (and drop the multiplier from x11 to x10) It's 3.33Ghz/1333RAM/FSB. I get 35.42FPS average is GTA 4's benchmark.

Your card should be able to easily handle maximum settings for SCII at your resolution. I'm going to throw out the idea that your problems occur late game, when lots of units are on the field, particularly in team games. I mention that largely because those are the classic signs of CPU problems in SCII. Turning down settings generally won't help your performance, so for now you can turn most of those back up. A few graphics settings demand physics calculations, however (particularly the new collision, flying pieces of whatever death animations that respond to which direction the damage came from). Turning down graphics settings that require physics calculations (aka effort from your CPU) can help. The graphics options menu for SCII generally mention which settings require CPU power in their tooltips. Unfortunately, you'll probably want to spend a little more than $200 when you upgrade, since you'll pretty much be looking at getting a locked Intel i5 (say, an i5-4750) and as cheap an H81 mobo as you can find. Unless you decide to overclock. That costs quite a bit more. Note, however, that if you play games other than SCII and are also unhappy with performance in those games - then it could well be GPU rather than CPU. Edit: Synpah gave some excellent advice, particularly as regards a possible moderate upgrade for little cost re:overclocking.

Well the guy responded once to me at around the beginning of Haswell about tuning VRIN (they were using ASUS's default setting of 1.65v because it auto OC'd the best lolol) but I couldn't substantiate my claim (gigabytes oc guide wasn't out yet).
