Hopefully it wont feel too demeaning after I get used to it (lol). I am going to make the last couple changes people have recommended and post a final build soon. Pick up launchy http://www.launchy.net/ and you'll forget all about Metro and the terrible metro start menu

Such vitriol towards Windows may often be found in two places - militant Linux fans that compile their own kernals, and Windows users. + Show Spoiler + I'm not dissing Linux users, or even Debian users, I should point out. Then again, he could be running a Pwnie Express distro.

The thought of going Linux or Hackintosh for next build have crossed my mind more than once. Any OS that works without causing me tons of headaches is a good OS so the former two. Windows just does not work, hmm let's see. Transfer system crashes when dealing with large sizes (it still sucks in Windows 8 btw) so I had to replace it with TeraCopy. Some pictures are corrupted on photo viewer when they're clearly not because they display perfectly fine on OS X and Android so I had to replace photo viewer with Picasa. All my music files have an image and all the thumbnails show up perfectly fine on iTunes and Android but some just refuse to work on Windows for gods know why. One Drive basically sucks. It uploads slow as shit, there's no option to set speed of uploads, and it uploads multiple files at the same time (I'd be okay with this if the upload speed wasn't shit). Skype also sucks. This new dumbass feature: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-tms/multi-monitor-mouse-bug-after-update-to-windows-81/a4eb4cc9-def1-4e80-b823-83460339afb8 It also comes back upon reboot despite changing the registry values, I need to sign out and sign back in for the fix to take effect. My audio crashes randomly and it does it often as well. Foreign languages have in the past (Vista, 7) not displayed properly at random times though this seems to have been fixed with Windows 8. I can forgive Windows for not displaying languages or thumbnails properly but core features like the transfer system and photo viewer should actually work and not be broken.

From my experience with 7, the Swedish langue has worked out fine for me. For me, windows has only behaved that way one or twice. It's more of individual programs than windows for me

So, for my little laptops that won't be playing games, and even my work computer which doesn't need windows software, I use Linux. On my Macbook I have OS X, which is great. My main machine runs Win7 and I'm considering upgrading to Win8 since I've heard it's less resource-intensive and more effecient. The main thing that draws me towards instaling linux on it is nerd cred, but also so that playing video games is so much trouble I just don't bother and be productive instead. If you want to play most video games (and chances are, you probably do) or run Photoshop natively, you'll want to stick to OS X or windows.

Why is this happening? tried to search this on google, can't find anything. so what happens is your computer turns off when you pull on, but not remove, your keyboard and mouse from the usb ports. The power button at this point does not work; It won't turn back on unless you completely remove them, then pushing the power button works. At this point, you plug them back and and things work again Does this accurately describe the problem?

Your problem is strange. Can you say what your board is?

It seems it's newer than the driver on the Gigabyte website. If you plug mouse and keyboard into those two black USB 2.0 ports next to the PS/2 connector, those two are the ones intended for mouse/keyboard. Those will avoid the drivers mentioned completely and use the Microsoft USB 2.0 driver on both Windows 7 and 8. Your problem is still strange. You should try to install those other USB 3.0 drivers as the problem might not just be with mouse and keyboard and could also happen with other USB devices at some point. If you look on the Gigabyte website for a different BIOS for your board, that's this page: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4518#bios What's interesting is that the version F7 mentions something about USB. Perhaps there was some bug about that in the original BIOS put on the board in the factory? You might want to check what BIOS version your board has. I don't know where you find that info, but when restarting and going into the BIOS, it should be mentioned somewhere. ![]()
