Ah so that's how it works. 5 minute offer, damn, you have 5 minutes to make up your mind. :p
Honestly I wouldn't have gotten it but that doesn't mean it wasn't a great deal. I'm just über picky.
For example you can easily take out the sub par PSU, sell it, and get a better one instead. If you have no need for the blu ray reader, you can also sell that, etc. The SSD and storage are perfectly fine. The video card is also still beastly. Just that there are other beasts with a tad more potential. And an OS on top of that. You're fine:p

No, thank you; i stick with it!
You have also more than 5 min to think about. You can put it in your basket and it will stay there a couple of hours without the price changing. I also saw this offer last night, but there it was 1050€.

So I decided that after years of being a loyal and happy AMD fan it is time to switch to Intel. Since I really love overclocking, my processor of choice will be i5 4670k instead of Xeon. These are the components Im currently thinking of purchasing in about 2 days. Could you please review my build, any suggestions are welcome.
MB: AsRock Z87 Extreme4 (really dig this board) CPU: Core i5 4670k (I can smell the overclock) RAM: 2x4gb Geil Leggara cl9 (ram must be low profile) VGA: Gigabyte 7870 2gb oc HDD: 1tb Seagate Barracuda Case: Fractal Design Core 3000 PSU: Fractal Design Integra r2 750w (should be ok with haswell, but still I will be turning c7 and c6 states off) Optical Drive: cheapes dvd rw i can find WiFi Card - some tp-link for 10$
The computer will be used for playing SCII and streaming (the cpu will be enough right?), Diablo3, Skyrim and PlayStation 2 emulation. It will be used for programming and maybe some game development with Unity3d, but for that I am pretty sure its an overkill.
This baby will coast me about 1080$ (here in Bulgaria) and this is pretty much all I can spend on a new pc, not even 1 cent more. So please, if you have a suggestion about swapping a component, keep it at the same price as the ones listed or preferably cheaper (since stuff here seems to be more expensive).
|
Could you just link the shop listing or website? It's not all that hard to find stuff in other languages and it's a whole lot better than guessing at what prices and availability might be.
|
http://sky.bg/ I know their site looks like cr@p but they actually are a very reputable company. The little grid on the left shows the different component types (mb, cpu, etc), the one next to it shows the available models and price. The total configuration price is displayed next to the red letters in the small table (about 1510 is my max).

My mom asked me to put together her a PC. the one she owns atm is ~~ 10 years old and srsly srsly srsly slow. (takes like 5 min to open up internet browser)
I need help on this build, as it isnt going to be a gaming rig. + Show Spoiler + What is your budget? ~~$300 max cheap as possible, would love a build that doesnt go over $200 though.
What is your monitor's native resolution? not sure, but dont think it matters in this case
What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? none
What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? she will use it for browsing web, mail, and some flash games. so a integrated gpu is enough
Do you intend to overclock? no
Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? no
Do you need an operating system? no
Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? no
If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. no
What country will you be buying your parts in? USA
If you have any retailer preferences, please specify.
for a pc build with this budget, i know it'll have to be a AMD, (or are there cheaper/better intel??) and i dont know anything at all about AMD. (as you guys know, i built 2 gaming rigs already in the past month thx to ur guy's help, but i only researched on intel and nothing about AMD. Not to mention, their naming convention kinda confuses me)
for the PC she has right now, im thinking of just not even reusing any parts. (optical drive for sure, and maybe the ram and thats it)
Build thought. some AMD CPU some AMD mobo PSU: Corsair CX ~~$30 RAM: 4GB (should i go for 2x2 or 1x4, or no difference other than future upgrading?) ~~$30 HDD: 500gb (dunno price on these, newegg says its ~~$60 but thats overpriced .... since i got 1TB for same price) Case: nzxt source 210 ~~ $30 (or can i just reuse the case on her 10 y.o. PC??)
also, for the OS, (on the PC she's using its a windows xp) how can i transfer this over to the new pc if i build it?

IMKR, see if the system came with the system license, which it usually doesn't... wait... Optical drive is probably PATA and not compatible without spending more on an adapter or...
Why are you even building a system for those purposes? You get better prices on old clearance sales for prebuilt systems at the low end of the price range, especially if you need OS.
Actually, even on new systems. This is kinda cute: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883220497
Celeron 1007U 4GB DDR3 500GB HDD 802.11ac wireless USB3 included speakers! included mouse and keyboard cheapos
edit: ZeroReverse, wait a sec, will update later
edit2: okay, based on prices and availability it's mostly all okay. 750W seems dumb for that system unless you really like overclocking graphics cards and are popping another HD 7870 in there, which doesn't make sense considering what you listed you'd be doing. Integra R2 is not very good anyway. You can just get the old reliable Seasonic S12II 430W (SS-430GB) for less.
Do you already have an aftermarket CPU cooler? If you don't, you should save on the motherboard and/or graphics card to fit that in. CPU overclocking will matter more for SC2, streaming, and PS2 emulation anyway than having a better graphics card. There's the Cooler Master Hyper T4 at the low end of the range and the Thermalright Macho HR-02 at the high end.

So my new SSD came in the mail today and I went to go install it and it seems I shorted my current mobo via ESD or something... I guess I wasn't careful enough grounding myself before moving stuff around. Plugged in SSD, computer would turn on but no regular single POST beep and no video on any of my 3 monitors. Took the SSD out, tried again, same thing.
I've reseated everything, tried booting with no hard drives, no RAM, no peripherals, etc, and still no dice. My PSU and GPU work in my brothers computer and the only thing I can think of that's left is the mobo... Unless it's the CPU? But I feel mobo is more likely.
So I guess I need a new mobo. I've got an i7 2600k LGA1155 and was previously working off a Asus P8P67 LE.
What I'm looking for in a new mobo: - LGA1155 obviously - 1x PCIe 3.0 x16 is fine, I don't have SLI/Crossfire - 5.1 surround sound onboard audio, not using external soundcard - Up to 4 USB 3.0 ports would be nice, 6 USB ports+ in total perferably - I have 2 SSDs (including this new one), 2 HDDs, and a DVD drive using SATAIII connectors. 6Gbps would be nice for my SSDs, not sure if my 7200RPM HDDs can even utilize more than 3Gbps, but the SSDs will use them for sure. - ATX size is fine - I had my 2600k previously OC'd to 4.4GHz, and I'll still like to maintain the overclock. Doesn't need to go much/any higher than it was before though - I'm just using 4x4GB 1333MHz RAM, don't need support for anything special
Anything else worth mentioning? I'm a little lost in today's market as I haven't looked around since I built this thing a couple years ago. Can someone recommend a good model for me that's not overboard for what I need? I don't have a set budget, but I don't want to pay $200+ if I don't need it.

Thanks for the input Myrmidon
I do not plan on adding a second graphics card. When upgrading I prefer to just chose a single card instead of adding one more of the old.
But I will be overclocking everything as much as possible. Will SS-430GB still be enough? Also I was choosing PSU with more power so that I would not need to change it when I decide to upgrade in the future.
Currently I do not have an aftermarket cooler but I will be getting one next month - I was planning on CM Hyper 212 Evo or Tt SpinQ VT, but Macho HR-02 also looks quite good.So there is no need to cut from the components for a cooler.
Still I am wondering whether I really need 7870. I am more of a console gamer so I was wondering if R7 260X could be enough for my needs? Pretty much the only games I want to play with as high settings as possible are Skyrim and Diablo 3. But I guess 260x does not give alot of headroom if It turns out I want to play something else in the future.

have a montior with built in speakers, and already have mouse and keyboard she uses.
only issue is, if i cant transfer the OS over, it'll be over the price she's willing to spend. that newegg item wont be appealing to my mom, she wont want it.
as for the optical drive, i guess i can just grab a $15 one then.
so, i think only problem will be getting an OS transfer. I think i will look for prebuilt systems for her, but not really sure if there are any in the 200-300 range.
but not to mention, im addicted atm to building systems lol

If you think it's your motherboard, RMA it. Warranty for P67 doesn't expire until April / May of 2014.

If you want to crank up settings, going too far below 7870 is a problem. For everything else, R7 260X is about right.
If you're staying with the 7870 and overclocking that a lot on top of overclocking the i5-4670k a lot and running CPU and GPU stress tests simultaneously for hours on end, 430W (well, it's the 360W on +12V that's more of the limiting factor) is starting to be lower than I'd recommend. Remove any of those stipulations and it should be a comfortable fit.
Realistically it's probably fine, and the build quality is higher than most everything else around that price range I saw there.

You put together components and end up with something more expensive and/or lower quality than a prebuilt.
The old computer is an OEM prebuilt model right? Those licenses are supposed to be tied to the machines.
Even some one-or-two-generations-old laptop for $300 may work, but if a VivoPC isn't acceptable for whatever reason, sitting a laptop like a brick might not be either?
If you're determined to see this through and don't have old parts already that you can scavenge, you might want to try eBay etc. to find used hardware people are dumping. Just about any CPU better than Atom and similar AMD Bobcat / Jaguar type low-power processors should be fine. LGA 1156 Pentium G620? Way overkill. etc.

That's still pretty low, considering power use @1.3vcore is only like ~100 watts on i5

Happy New Year everyone :D Since SS-430GB wont be enough, how about SS-520GB or SSR-550RM? I would like to have some headroom for future upgrades.
|
Well, my idea of overclocking is to avoid the let's-increase-0.1V-and-several-dB-more-noise-and-much-higher-power-consumption-for-5%-performance-gains territory, but other people consider that standard. If you're really running everything as much as it can go and running workloads harder than gaming consistently for hours on end, there's no way you should be looking at CM Hyper 212 EVO. If you're not, the 430W is enough, even for most future upgrades. The 520W version is the same but with a few upgraded components, so you could get that instead if you want. Though at that price range, maybe the Fortron (FSP) Aurum S 500W is a better pick.
The SSR-550RM is a more modern, better design and what I would have recommended in the first place except it was more expensive than your original pick and you mentioned that going over budget wasn't a possibility.

You'd probably target like ~1.25v on voltage curve then (well, scaling is different chip to chip) which is like 80 watts on i5 (maybe 100.. hard to say, but low) so not really a worry (and ~4.2ghz to ~4.6 on most chips; i'd expect 4.3-4.5)
Hyperthreading adds a lot of power consumption and heat, ~1.25v i7 is somewhat equivalent to ~1.325-1.35v i5 in power and temperatures

They're close enough for it to come down to preference; 270 should perform better in mantle games (and has trueaudio support?), 660 will bring shadowplay recording+twitch streaming as well as g-sync (which probably isn't relevant for most people as you need an expensive ($650 1080p TN in UK money - i know a lot of people that would scream at that) monitor to use it this month from what we know right now and it's not a super high powered card.. but shadowplay is damn good)
I'd consider stepping up £90 to the 280x here - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-225-MS - £229 if you can grab it, and want it. Bit of a budget spike, though
