XFX Pro 850W is the best deal there for higher wattages by a long shot, but that didn't stop you from putting in a H110 or Core i7 and so on... And I thought guys with the windowed cases didn't like high-wattage non-modular power supplies with all the cable strands they aren't using? edit: gdi XFX, stop changing naming "conventions" all day every day.

That's the modular version of the same power supply from Seasonic. Semi modular is people being more specific and saying it's modular but not all cables are modular (some still hardwired). In this case it doesn't look like many. By the i7 and H110 I mean that most of your choices (well, not your RAM now) look not particularly price conscious, while the XFX does. But I guess if it's the modular version it's not so out of place, just a little dated and less efficient. It's better quality in construction and electrical stability (but less modular, less efficient, louder) than the more expensive Corsair RM, for example.

downgraded my RAM to this one cos they wouldnt build anything with more then 1600mhz in for some reason about it being incompatible with other parts idno. since its only semi modular im gonna need another psu. suggestions for something which will easily hold haswell oc + sli 780 + loads of extra fans + whatever if i try to get 2400mhz rams later on plz?

That faster RAM which is sold as 2133MHz for example, that works like this in practice: If you don't touch anything in the BIOS menus, it will run at 1333 or 1600MHz by default. That's where the usual standard tops out. The faster RAM can always keep to the normal standard, always comes with timing profiles to run it at something normal like 1600MHz. If you search around in the BIOS menus, there's an "XMP profile" setting somewhere. That's how you get the advertised speed out of your 2133MHz RAM. It is technically overclocking, but the required timing and voltage settings are all supplied by the memory sticks themselves. You don't have to manually do anything except enable the use of that XMP profile. It will just run (usually). It does not get you a lot of extra speed, so you should only buy fast RAM if the price feels fair to you. I don't know what those guys at the shop want regarding not letting you choose faster RAM if you want them to build the PC for you. Perhaps talk to them again, say you don't care if they just don't touch anything and just let it run at 1600MHz speed.

Oh. Duh. That's the next setting down for expert OC'ing with specific sticks of RAM. I have a "Profile 1" in the XMP drop down which puts the memory speed at 2400, as expected. Although CPU-Z shows 1200, I'm told via other sources that I have to double that to get the real speed.

What do you plan to use it for? Assuming gaming, which games/setting/resolution. Edit: ram, psu seems overpriced. (also hhd but im not sure). maybe cheap out on the case a little and buy a better gpu.

I got aggravated at not understanding how to copy my HDD's partition to the SSD so I just went and installed a fresh copy of Windows in the SSD. I was downloading ethernet drivers for the new OS and I noticed that Intel had this Rapid Storage thing that seemed to look nice. I installed it and kept getting BSOD on the SSD afterwards. So, after reinstalling Windows a SECOND time, here I am. Without the "rapid storage" drivers the SSD works fine. However I'm curious if I should be getting "drivers" or not. I got the Crucial M500. Advice?
