+ Show Spoiler + I RMA'd my bluray optical drive to be on the safe side - it would not read data from data DVDs and scoffed at any blurays. Probably a software issue, but then they sent me an "ASUS DVD Suite" disk with it, and I know that wasn't right. I'm not reviewing it at Newegg until that gets sorted, but their live chat support made me want to hit a wall.

case, optical drive, hdd, pretty standard. Probably can't get a significantly better offer than a capstone 450 @ $60 in terms of PSU unless you go for something worse to try and shave money with rebate etc - $50 decent price for 8gb basic RAM, 270 good GPU etc. If you want $-shaving, maybe someone else can help a little but it looks reasonably tight to me

Could grab http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231689 at $10 more if you have interest in having good RAM, but it's probably a waste of money given that you can't set past 1600mhz on b85 and similar chipsets (only z87) case, optical drive, hdd, pretty standard. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157388 That AsRock even has an Intel Ethernet controller. Anyway, build looks good. It also doesn't work if you're actually shipping to Canada. newegg.ca prices and availability and overall quality are different (read: worse) than for the US site. You aren't, are you?

b]What is your budget?[/b] $450-$550 What is your monitor's native resolution? Don't know but probably small. What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings? League Of Legends, Starcraft 2 What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming? Nothing just the regular. Do you intend to overclock? No. Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire? No. Do you need an operating system? No. Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget? No. If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify. Intel. AMD Graphics What country will you be buying your parts in? USA. Newegg probably or other popular sites. Maybe buyin CPU and Motherboard from Microcenter but i DK If you have any retailer preferences, please specify. Nope.

On W7: Right click empty space on desktop -> click screen resolution On XP: Same steps, except it's "properties" instead of "screen resolution" and then go to the "settings" tab

Then get the rest of your rig: motherboard (B85 or H81 chipset will do nicely here), RAM, HDD, PSU and case. Once you've done all that, look at your budget and see if you can get a stronger processsor. i3 isn't a bad processor by any means however if you can make the step up to an i5 it'll be well worth it. However I'm not 100% certain it'll fit your budget. Go with the current 4xxx generation for Intel's CPUs obviously. Another card to consider is the GTX 650 Ti. You might find a good price on it.

Replacing it with the current i5 would mean losing those $300 while not seeing an impressive improvement. The i5 2400 maxes at 3.2ghz under four-thread load, you can reasonably assume 4.5ghz on a 4670k, as well as IPC gains (>20% for x264, less for other stuff) so it's worthwhile with a 660ti IMO - a nice upgrade, but without overclock the margins are considerably lower. It's.. kinda out of $300 budget though. I wouldn't bother without ~z87x-d3h, 4670k and a good cooler.

You could get a FX-8320 Considering the flat scaling past four cores and piledriver being worse for many games i don't think that's a good idea ![]() I don't know what the game looks like if you increase clocks by 50% and add Haswell on there.. but 4670k should be significantly better. That's SB vs Bulldozer - showing a 57% lead in average FPS set to the same clock on Intel side, though gw2 is a bit weird with scaling IIRC.
