If you have an older laptop then yes most likely it's just using SATA and will accept any size of SSD. If it's newer / and thinner than it might be limited to mSATA (or PCIe) and 7mm SSDs.

Right now I have a OCZ 50GB Vertex II, but I soon realized that that is way too small for my needs. I'm looking for either a 256GB or 400GB SSD. Anyone have any recommendations for when/where/what to buy when it comes to SSDs? Go by price, mostly. Almost every relatively recent model on the market these days is okay. This is a start: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7545/best-ssds-holiday-2013 Also whatever else Intel or Samsung is okay. Crucial other than V4. There are others too. Try Boxing Day, as suggested earlier. Look around for deals online. On December 07 2013 14:56 nosliw wrote: Are the laptop SSD and desktop SSD exactly the same? Can I swap them w/o issues? Usually they're not even marketed with that distinction... Depends what you mean. The large majority of consumer SSDs available at retail are 2.5" drive form factor with SATA interface. This is the most common form factor for storage on laptops (especially for typical-to-larger systems). Most new computer cases support 2.5" drive mounts, with the standard desktop size being 3.5" for hard drives. These work in laptops and desktops, sure. There exist some SSDs that use a longer PCIe or 3.5" (with SATA) interface and would only fit in a desktop. There also exists a 1.8" smaller SATA drive form factor that is rarely used in laptops. Many laptops these days also have mSATA slots, and there are some decent mSATA SSDs these days. Some desktop motherboards have these slots too. And then there are some custom and other form factors for SSDs in more space-conscious laptop designs like Apple products and Ultrabooks.

after i come back from winter break, i plan on putting in the gpu, (assuming i dont get a gpu in time b4 i head back home for break) so i want to build my pc to make sure everything else is working. if i make my PC w/o the GPU, what steps differ? (other than the obv not puting in GPU) and later on, when i add in the GPU, how would i do that?

Once you add the GPU, you just plug your monitor into the GPU instead of the motherboard. There is nothing you need to do inside the computer besides adding in the GPU and plugging in the necessary 6pin PCIe connectors.

There is basically no reason to get an expensive and 'super fast' SSD when you aren't going to be able to notice the difference.

I agree I could of saved ~$40 getting an EVO.

MSI's GTX 780 custom cooler is a bit better than EVGA's and cheaper too: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127746 It's down a bit in factory clock speeds, but you can always overclock yourself and that's not much. I'm not really convinced by 840 Pro for that kind of price. You can get some prosumer-level-pretty-much-pointless-for-most-people level drive for under $200 that has a 5-year warranty etc.

AMD Manager of APU/CPU Product Reviews James Prior was quick to negate the slide's legitimacy: "I've never seen that slide before, I don't know where that came from," he told me in our call, and quickly followed-up by stating that "it's not real. FX is not end-of-life." AMD's FX branded products will continue to evolve and we look forward to sharing those updates in the future. Well, that's.. better
