Hi TL
Ok, so the deal is I am looking at building a PC for gaming. Mostly MMO's and that sort of thing, but I would like the option of being able try other, more demanding games and not have to worry so much about my builds ability to handle them.
I live in Auckland, New Zealand and am looking to purchase most of my parts from http://www.pbtech.co.nz/
My budget is $1500NZD and I would like the PC to be able to be connected to my TV via HDMI or VGA. Ill be using Windows 8.1
I have come up with a very, very, very rough build... However this is my first time ever doing this so I welcome any and all help. I have posted the build below. Thank you so much in advance
ASUS GTX 770 - $573.85
COOLER MASTER COSMOS SE MID-Tower - $297.85
COOLER MASTER 450W OEM 80 Plus Silver Power Supply - $79.35
Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200.12 SATA3 HDD 64M CACHE 7200RPM NCQ - $97.75
Gigabyte GA-H81M-D2V Socket 1150, Intel H81 Chipset,mATX,2 X DDR3 DIMM,VGA/DVI,SATA3, USB3 (Front & Back), Serial Port, - $102.35
Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - $159.85
Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional 64bit ENG OEM DVD - $228.85
Total - $1539.85NZD

Case is overkill and you have no CPU.

Should I use standoff screws for the mv or regular ones. I read that standoff give some space between case and mb

What? You need to use standoffs to mount the motherboard otherwise you're going to short out the board and it won't turn on.

Whelp, the new system is up and I'm posting from it. It's absolutely annoying to realize, after moving my storage drive over, how many passwords I had set to never bug me. I guess I can fix my security while I'm at it. CPU-Z and CoreTemp peeks under spoiler.

Wat?! Why the hell wouldn't they fix that. I'll have to get on that.

I dunno why, but they seem obsessed with displaying VID and not vcore even though the sensor works perfectly well (most accurate so far even due to IVR)
Also the update interval seems.. broken on newest version, it also detects my base clock as being wrong. I had to do some weird workaround to get it to display properly and do This

He asked me to help him, but I'm a noob too. Here we go. Items he got 4 phree: Mainboard: ASUS M4A77T/USB3GFX: GeiL value plus 2 x 2 GB DDR3-1333 CL 7 7 7 24RAM: GTS250 "Deep green" Gainward 1024 MB GDDR3Items I have already found to complete his system: CPU: AMD FX-6300 6x 3.50GHz AM3+ --> 95,27 EUR by www.mindfactory.de (cheapest AM3+) PSU: 450 Watt Super Flower Golden Green PRO Non-Modular 80+ Gold --> 65,84 by www.mindfactory.de (cheapest 80+ Gold) Not sure about CPU fan. Either he will use the old one or I will recommend him Scythe Mugen 4 Tower (35,83). Optical drives (no blue-ray), noname case (no cable management -.-) and some crappy 200 GB HDD (I loled :D) will be the old ones. But I will try to convince him to buy at least Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA III (48,13 EUR) and to through away 200Gb nonsense. All-in-all about 250 EUR to spend. What do you think, guys? Should I add something? Upgrade or downgrade?
So, what do you think, guys? Should I finalize the system as above?
He still doesnt want to throw his free stuff away to buy a brand new system. Greedy bas***d. :D

I bought the Define Fractal R4 case. I came to understand the mat on the inside are sound proof materials and not to be removed like it was some protection for shipment. However, they also block the side and top airflow vents. I'm trying to find out on the internet whether or not I have to remove them and the conclusion is: maybe... depending if I need it for my graphic card.
I have an EVGA GeForce GTX 770. Should I remove the sound proof in front of the vents or keep them?

Only remove those if you want to put a fan into that spot. If you don't have extra fans you want to use, keep it closed.

I would like to add: If your GPU is an open air cooler (AKA the ACX cooler on EVGA models) then adding a fan to the top spot will significantly decrease GPU load temps. The difference for me was 4c and that's only with a 120mm fan @5v.
