How do ppl feel about getting an i7 instead of an i5? with the sales going on it might cost $70 more instead of a usual 100+
It's still paying $70 extra for a part that's not better unless you use it in certain ways, pretty pointless if it won't benefit you

If you're going to be streaming AAA titles than I guess it may be worth it but I'd much rather put the $70 towards a GPU if I was a gamer.

Cyber Monday is just a rehash of Black Friday and Black Friday is just a rehash of earlier sales.

lol ok. so don't wait. sounds good b/c things are being bought out and im missing parts
one good thing of waiting is the ram is now $30 cheaper base price lol

760 Windforce at 239$, I don't think it will go down anymore. I'm still having 2nd thoughts or should I wait for better deals to replace my 560 Ti?
Even for the Christmas sales + holiday sales, sales are going to continue till the end of December regardless. I feel that cybermonday sales are similar or rehash of the november sales anyway.

I bet that Arc Midi R2 can actually be more quiet while you are gaming compared to the Define R4. You will get away with running the fans at their 7V setting instead of at full. The door will be in the way for that on the Define R4. The Define R4 would be better if your room would be cold or when at idle.
Just a quick note - I got the Arc Midi R2 case in today. This case is sexy, and a major step up from any case I've had previously. Thanks for recommending it.Not entirely sure what's up with the PCIe card slot that is all alone floating above in vertical orientation, as opposed to the horizontal normal expansion slots.

Ordered it weeks ago. Its pretty huge so def. check the specs and see if its right for you. Or maybe its average size now b/c my current case is probably 10+ years old.
You can move the parts around..I havent played with it yet so I dunno how much can/will move
I like it though. very sleek

Those are generally for fan controllers but could also be used for other purposes.

I especially like the cheeky "oh, and we have two SSD mounting points on the back of the motherboard mounting plate, just in case you want insanely open airflow.
Actually, I'm giggling about the filter at the front. Simple things amuse me sometimes, like the push in to click out the front grille.

What is your current build? i5-3550 CPU, no cooling fan.
What is your monitor's native resolution? 1920x1080
Why do you want to upgrade? What do you want to achieve with the upgrade? I want to build around the CPU that I have and save a few $$. Basically a working desktop is the goal.
What is your budget? $500
What country will you be buying your parts in? US
If you have any brand or retailer preferences, please specify. None
Thanks, On second thought. Would it be easier to buy a prebuilt system with crappy CPU and swap them?
|
$500 prebuilts don't have video cards or maybe a GT610 or something similar. Not really an upgrade if you're looking for an entire system minus a CPU.

^Nah, it wouldn't.
You'd need mobo, RAM, PSU, case, GPU, HDD/ssd of some kind, etc for this. A 3550 is worth a decent amount and you should be able to build around it fine. If you buy a prebuilt, you don't have choice of mobo or psu (which will probably be low quality cheap stuff) and will have to pay for another cpu as well as get charged for building etc

Nah don't buy a crappy prebuilt. Prebuilts always seem to have no name PSUs, unknown motherboards and weird amounts of RAM. The only thing prebuilts have going for them is Windows is included at a very nice price.
If I were to build the computer myself in your case I would do something like this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2a9GY
I take it the $500 is without the processor included so you can knock off $210 from the price of that (it becomes ~$460). Also it's GPU upgrade ready if you ever want to start gaming with your PC.
However there are good deals everywhere at the moment apparently so you can probably save even more money, since everything mentioned in there is at stock prices.. Browse this thread.

Thanks. Then I'll be looking for help on parts.
Any suggestions on what mobo? I know I don't need Z77 because not overclocking, but not sure what differences between Hxx or Bxx
RAM depends on what speed/clock mobo supports, so have to pick it after I know what mobo I use.
GPU prob Radeon HD7770?
case also depends on mobo, also need CPU fan.
Other parts I have no clue.

You got me excited... then I saw that it's $50 to ship to Canada.
|
Damn it my paypal is empty.

If any Canadians are looking for a small SSD, Newegg has both the Samsung 840 EVO and Intel 530 120GB variants for $90, pricematch at ME to get it for ~$83.
