I've had a NEC multisynch 19" 4:3 lcd for well over 7-8 years and its still working perfectly while my 3 yo HP 24" 16:10 lcd is having issues, and was never as good to begin with (light bleeding, brightness issues, etc.). I'd buy a new 24-27" NEC monitor without hesitation if I could find a retailer. Alas I can only find them used or refurbished on e-bay and the likes.

The price you pay, often translates into quality and durability. My previous NEC 19" CRT, altough it cost me a fortune at that time (500$) lasted for upwards of 12 years!

I like the Dell IPS panel but they are pricey when out of sale, I dont know however if they sell with a glossy coating.

Dell has consumer-focused glossy IPS at a cheaper range than the Ultrasharps. They have worse stands and so on.

Models are S2740L, S2340L / S2340M, S2240L / S2240M. Confusingly, the S2440L is VA.

Though really, there's not much difference between the Dell Ultrasharp models and similar models by competitors, at least outside of support. Which HP model do you have?

Its decent but I'm getting some small lighting issues, like during SC2 loading screens the gamma or brightness tends to twitch for a few seconds. Other main issue is light bleeding, can't get decent blacks but its really more of an issue while watching movies.

Hi, Im planning on buying a new monitor and was wondering if someone could help me out a bit. I play wide range of games, mostly RTS, but nothing competitively and my computer has hard time reaching 120fps even with low settings in modern games. I also do some programming and lightweight image/video editing. 22-24" would probably be something I want.

My friend recommended me BenQ 24" XL2411T that would cost me 300€ in local store, its pretty much my max budget but Im not sure if its too much since the 120hz would probably be a waste for me.

I have done some research and I think the 120hz TN is definitely not for me as I value good color quality and lower price more than the 120hz. I currently have 2 choices on my mind Asus VS229H-P (~150€) and Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM(~200€), both 60hz ISP with good reviews. Dell looks like better build quality and has height adjustment. Any recommendations?

Also wanted to note that I am currently living abroad(Poland) for a year so refund/change/sending to maintenance is not something I am looking forward to, I will also sell the monitor when moving out so not searching for a life partner.

I'm not sure what stores you have available but those two options are perfectly solid. The VS229H-P is 21.5" while the Ultrasharp is 23" so keep that in mind when looking at the price difference. The main difference here would be warranty support and height adjustment so decide whether both are important for you.

The panel in both monitors are perfectly fine so don't worry about image quality (unless you hate antiglare coatings).

Does anyone own/have any experience with the Dell U2713HM? It's just gone on sale (30% off) on the Australian Dell store for a week, and I'm extremely close to making the dive and purchasing it. I've read a lot of stuff about people having problems with it (e.g. cross-hatching, backlight bleeding), but I figure that, when looking online, people post about negatives more than positives. I'm hoping that if I pick one up now, it'll be a newer revision that doesn't have the commonly talked about issues.

Hey guys, I'm getting a monitor soon, and I need help deciding what to get. My budget is about $100, it can go over due to shipping or tax, but 100 is max I want to spend. I want a 20-21" monitor, though I don't know the other specs it would have or I would want (I've read the thread's OP though, so I have a basic understanding right now). I'd be willing to get a nicer model that is used previously off amazon if that is an easier way to go about this. Any ideas?

$100? Maybe HP Pavilion 20xi. I don't think people/reviewers pay attention to sub-1080p these days, so you have to guess some.

This will definitely work. I'm looking at it now, looks like a solid choice even if it isn't 1080p.

EDIT: It's widescreen, I definitely don't want widescreen. I'm gonna look on amazon, I saw an asus for about $100 that looked pretty good and was about what I wanted, but I can't find it now .

Non-widescreen is not too common these days. They're often priced higher. The larger options tend to be aimed for professional markets and are quite a bit more expensive.

This is refurb, but at $80 and 1600x1200 (and IPS), it's much cheaper than alternatives.

Is this monitor any good? I want to get a monitor for less than $200 and this seems to be the best value.

Is it possible to connect one monitor to your graphics card and the other one to the motherboard? What are the advantages/disadvantages of this compared to connecting them both to the graphics card?

Well my Dell U2713HM arrived today (manufacture date June 2013, revision A00), and I have to say, it's a beautiful, stunning monitor. The 2560x1440 resolution makes everything that little bit sharper, and jumping from a 24" monitor up to the 27" of the U2713HM is revelatory; there's just so much more screen real-estate, you get absorbed into your games that much more. The adjustable height is wonderful as well, coming from a standard cheap TN panel.

I know a lot of people have posted on various forums blasting the U2713HM for having terrible quality-control issues, but it's always the negatives that people talk about. Specifically, the new revision of the monitor appears to be using a new panel, and at least in my case I haven't encountered a single issue that people have complained about with the older revisions.

I wholeheartedly recommend this monitor if you're looking to upgrade (Starcraft takes a little getting used to at a higher resolution though). Dell regularly has sales on the monitor, so I'd wait for one of those. And if you get really unlucky and get a defective monitor, Dell can replace it ad infinitum.

Would this be considered a good monitor / deal?

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-QNIX-QX2710-LED-Evolution-27-2560x1440-WQHD-PLS-Computer-Monitor-Matte-/121117252582

I realize it was mentioned in the OP, but other than warranty, are there any major disadvantages/flaws?

"Korean" monitors on Newegg Marketplace via Neofeel (which is in South Korea):

clicky

Not the best prices though, but people may prefer a source like this. There's QNIX QX2710 (Samsung PLS 2560x1440) for $330, and it goes up from there.

Speaking of the QNIX, I got mine (not pixel-perfect) from green-sum about a week ago. I couldn't spot a single dead pixel, and backlight bleeding is minimal. And just to be safe, I added a 3 year Squaretrade warranty as I'm more worried about a non-functioning monitor in the long future rather than minor defects. That's about $325 total.

As far as who to purchase it from, it really doesn't matter as most monitors do come in great conditions from most highly regarded vendors. But if you want to be extremely safe, just go with newegg.

Hey guys, I'm looking into getting another monitor for my setup. I've had my eyes on the Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM for a while now. Right now I'm running a GTX 560Ti with DVI to an old 21.5" Viewsonic monitor. It's been a great monitor but I want to go double monitor because I have the room to do so now. My GFX card should be enough to support that right? Both monitors running at 1920x1080. Any other good monitors around the 22-24" size I should be looking into? I would like to spend < $200.

Pretty much any modern card can run 2 screens np, it's not even noticable resource-wise unless you're trying to run the game across both screens at twice the resolution
