The BenQ XL2420t is fine after calibration. Its preset modes are rather pathetic leading to stuff like black crushing and oversaturation so I don't blame you for finding the Samsung monitors better. Or maybe you prefer glossy monitors over matte monitors, which is a perfectly fine opinion to have (I personally prefer glossy). Either way, your immediate problems with the monitor occurs with every single monitor manufacturer in existence.

Backlight bleeding and dead pixels is common on all monitors - Dell IPS monitors commonly have these problems but people manage since warranty is very nice most of the time. You'll never avoid backlight bleeding unless you want to play panel roulette, I mean even high end professional NEC/HP/Eizo/Lacie monitors have it.

Samsung can't do hardware design. This is not new. The 950D has problems regarding the actual hardware design, the 850D has problems with the PLS technology and/or the monitor frame design, the Samsung Nexus phones has actual hardware/software problems regarding polar axis inputs amongst a few others, you had historic capacitor problems with their whole TV and monitor lineups in the past because they chose to go cheap, the 305T has problems with the main processing chip melting right off after time because of the cheap solder used. These problems are not uncommon.

There is a long line of Samsung's hardware design biting the consumer. That does not mean they cannot make good panels. Give someone who can do good hardware design a good panel and you get a very nice result. Eizo uses PLS panels in some of their IPS monitors (lol) and they're miles above what Samsung has shown so far.
