For me it's also a reason to not worry about a smaller field of vision on 16:10. I don't worry about managing a battle on screen, but I do worry about missing an incoming drop on the minimap.

Going by a calculator online, those screen areas seem to be about: 242 square inches @92.5ppi (23.8" diagonal) vs 311.5 square inches @109ppi (27" diagonal) 1.287x bigger by area but that area contains 1.778x more pixels because it's 1440p vs 1080p. ~38% more pixels per square inch That's a solid improvement but it's partially why i don't want a 27" 1440p monitor. Going from a 24" 1080p to 24" 4k monitor would yield a 300% improvement in pixels per square inch, almost 8 times as much difference. 27-30" 1440p is still in the same boat as 22-24" 1080p but you've maintained or slightly improved your density while moving to a much larger screen.

Just wondering if I should go for the S2317HJ or is there a much better gloss IPS 23" under $200. I'd really like to spend under 150 but I don't see the S2340M for that since it is so old. Actually I might bid for a few 2340m's on ebay and try to get it under 150. Unless someone's got a better suggestion.

You should adjust stuff like brightness immediately after getting a new monitor as they can be quite wildly wrong. A good brightness setting also depends on the level of light in the room and around the monitor - you don't want too big of a difference between the monitor's brightness level and the rest of the room Try a config like this one: Preset Mode= Custom Color Brightness= 62 (according to preferences and lighting) Contrast= 75 Red= 99 Green= 97 Blue= 98 from https://pcmonitors.info/reviews/dell-p2414h/ also make sure that the monitor is at least ~2ft (~65cm) away from you. Changing settings for color, brightness etc will usually look really weird for a little while. That doesn't mean that it's bad, it will usually start to feel normal after a short adjustment period

Not a competitive gamer so not too worried about refresh rates though I would like bells and whistles/ good black and color. Would also like to keep g2g around 5ms

Not a competitive gamer so not too worried about refresh rates though I would like bells and whistles/ good black and color. Would also like to keep g2g around 5ms I don't know what is 2k, probably doesn't exist for monitors, but why can't we go with the metric system logic and be smart, and call it by the first name 240p - LQ 360p - MQ 480p - SD Standard Definition 720p - HD 1080p - Full HD 1440p - Quad HD 2160p - Ultra HD - 4K - 4K UHD 4320p - 8k - 8K UHD 1070 is quick, you could easily do a 1440p, especially if you're doing a single monitor setup. I think like 90% of 1080p monitors out there have 5ms gtg or lower, so that's not an issue. What you want an IPS panel, which generally have nice reproduction, at the cost of lower refresh rates, which is kind of a bummer since a 1070 could definitely take advantage of a 144Hz, but getting that in a price range you'd be happy with probably isn't the easiest anyway. My recommendation is to get a 1080p IPS panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. I've been really happy with BenQ and Asus monitors, less so with LG. For productivity I think 2x 1080p panels are way better than one 27" 1440p, so I wouldn't bother looking too much at that, if you want more premium and your wallet allows, consider a 2nd monitor. I think cheap TN's are not great monitors, but at a higher end they get better, so if you're wanting 144Hz, check those out, not sure if they are out of your reach though. Colors or kinda subjective, so I'd recommend going to your nearest BestBuy and just looking at the color there, watch a clip, see how much the fast switching bothers you with IPS (imo it shouldn't at all, but I'm a person who thinks $2000 headphones have next to no difference compared to my $250). My recommendation would be: VP239H-P

I'm currently looking at the Dell U2417H but was maybe trying to see if I could get something comparable for a little cheaper.

I have done some research, but everyone seems to have a different opinion. My priorities in order: 144/120hz freesync - IPS - no PWM - no 1080p over 24"- 24" So i came up with Eizo FS2735 Asus MG279Q the 2nd one costs half of the first one. Anyone have any better recommendations or an opinion on those 2? They both have no PWM and blue light filter thingy, both are over 24" because no decent 24" exists, both IPS both 144 freesync, asus has worse freesync range. Both might have backlight issues. Thats my research. Im also open to comparable TN monitors, to be honest im not an expert and i only read that IPS delivers better image quality like this one maybe, it has over 1080p at 24": AOC AG241QX

TN's have to be basically right in front of you to keep accurate color, whereas IPS has like 178° vertical and horizontal viewing angle. So if it's a main monitor, that you won't have people trying to watch over your shoulder/showing people stuff on it regularly TN might be worth the savings (usually much cheaper when looking at 144). Also if you're doing stuff where it's important that color replication is critical IPS is a better choice. Also when you get over 24" it's possible that the far edges of the screen get slightly color distorted as depending on how far away you are the viewing angle may exceed it's range. I'm no expert though, just also shopping for a monitor

I'm looking for a 23-25'' 1080p monitor with good picture quality for casual AAA gaming. Specifically I was looking at Dell UltraSharp U2414H 23.8". Reviews generally say its very good but it's 3 years old. Should I look for a more recent monitor?

Reviews generally say its very good but it's 3 years old. Should I look for a more recent monitor? I have 2 of them. Pretty solid, look absolutely amazing, overclock to 72Hz and all the ones still being sold *SHOULD* be firmware/hardware version 3, which means that unlike both of mine, they will actually resume from sleep without a hard power cycle half the time. I'm unsure of whether the 2417h has any of the issues or if it can overclock, but the monitors are definitely holding up well. Unless you specifically want high refresh rates, the super thin bezel and color calibration makes it pretty great for day to day use.
