Any advice on a 24in 3D monitor?

Also, what is your opinion on 24in vs 27in in 3D gaming?

27" is more expensive, if its 2560x1440 (does 120hz 2560x1440 27" even exist?) need a lot of GPU power to run 3d in 27" 2560x1440, maybe SLI GTX680 etc.
Sure.

Make sense. Thanks for the info.

Any outputs on this monitor? http://www.benq.ca/product/monitor/xl2420tx/specifications
I can pick it up for around 500 before tax and shipping. The kid includes 3d glasses 2.0 and builr in receiver.

I don't know much about what's the best of the low-end TN's.

If you can, I'd spend $155 to get the Asus VS229H-P: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=69496&vpn=VS229H-P&manufacture=ASUS

If not, I'd probably get this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005BZNDOO/?tag=pcpapi-20

It's the exact same thing as the XL2420T except that the TX is more expensive because the 3D receiver is built into the monitor.

This monitor is mentioned in the OP. It's good for what it is, with the typical downsides of using a TN panel.

You can see a review on TFTCentral: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/benq_xl2420t.htm

I have an interesting opportunity, due to the windows phone challenge, I received a gift card to the Microsoft store, I noticed since I was looking at an ultrasharp as my next monitor, I could use that gift card towards one. Only problem is, they don't have the u2312hm, but they do have the u2412m, for $330. With the gift card, I would only be paying about $130 out of pocket, plus tax, do you guys think it's a good deal?

Yes? Unless there's something else at the store that catches your eye.

well, I ask because one of the employees said they might get the 23" ones in stock in the next few weeks, since I don't need the 1920x1200 resolution but it would be nice to have. And the scaling won't be a problem right? Most graphics cards can deal with it so there won't be vertical stretching

i urge everyone to stay away from the korean monitors. horrendous build quality and no return policy. paid $350 for a monitor that has 35 dead pixels including 2 in the middle of the screen.

Just want to know if I completely failed when I bought an ASUS VE247H or whatever. Costed me like 230$, and has served me valiantly for half a year. Just want to know if it sucks

Yeah its a roulette. Some people have got really good stuff out of them while others have got DOA models. Apparently they're A- panels so these manufacuters probably get whatever Dell, HP, Apple don't want...which would explain why some of these so called glossy monitors have antiglare coatings.

If its bad enough, you can probably talk to PayPal since they're pretty pro-buyer/anti-seller. You can probably get a refund because its so bad. Have you tried this?

IIRC the VE series is the series that is pretty good for a TN monitor. Since you're in Europe and get slugged with VAT, you probably didn't do half bad.

I'm about to upgrade my monitor and have narrowed it down to 3. can someone please help me decide?

PLANAR PL2410W 24" $169.99

ASUS VS248H-P 24" $179.99

HP 2311x 23" $166.19
(I can get it for $166 through my school's discount program).

I'm in a small town and don't have a convenient place to check these out in person.

Any help would be appreciated.

Personally I'd get the Planar PL2410W out of those three. That Asus monitor has pretty noticeable reverse ghosting and HP monitors are typically more expensive than they should be.

Is there any reason to get that Planar over the Asus VS229H-P though?

thanks for the reply, but i'm an idiot and didn't realize the planar isn't LED and has like twice the power consumption (i assume runs hotter) of the others.

you till consider HP overpriced after the discount?

what do you think of Hanns? some random recommended this on tomshardware.

i did. the only solution they could offer me was to ship it back to korea on my own dime and get reimbursed my original purchase price minus the $140 out of pocket to send it back. i understood what i was buying but even for an A- panel it is totally unacceptable.

Doesn't matter if its CCFL. The only displays that get hot are very high end professional ones...those actually kick out a lot of heat. And the only one that I have heard of that actually suffered from overheating issues was the Samsung 305T.

The HP isn't bad just extremely glossy. If that's what you want, its a decent enough TN monitor.

It is, $164 with free shipping from Amazon. The only reason I can think of to get a TN instead in the same price range is if the person hates the anti-glare and wants a glossy monitor. I can't think of any glossy IPS near $200.
