@FoeHamr look at the Rosewill RK-9000s at Newegg. They have all the switch types, no frills, and work really well so you can even just pick the type of switches you want for the same keyboard.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will go with the Rosewell. It seems to be really highly rated and looks pretty good.
My only question is the switches. I looked up a guide on switches, but I want to make sure I understand it. The different switches change how much force is required to make the key activate. Black Switches are the best for gaming because they require the most force, while blue is best for typing because it requires the least, with Cherry somewhere in between. Is there really that big of a difference in the switches? I'm looking for a keyboard to primarily game on, but will be starting college in the Fall so I want to be able to type on it comfortably as well. Does that mean the Cherry switches are my best bet?

Rosewill is actually probably a better choice than the 3 keyboards you were originally looking at. For gaming & school go with the mx brown switches. I have a bunch of keyboards with mx reds, blues, and browns; I prefer the browns for typing and Starcraft out of all of them.

Awesome I think I will do just that
Thank you for your input
Also thanks you Airestyx

Just got a QPAD MK-50 with the standard red cherry switches.

It feels really good but i need to test it a while ^^. I'll try to review it here in a couple of days

and only get it if you want macro keys to the side. most sc2 pro's that use this board take out all of those keys to avoid pressing them/being able to find your hand placement. i used to use a g15 and i would would accidentally place my hand to far to the left sometimes.

oh I'll do that I guess ^_^

Which MX Blue KB do you recommend for under $100. Trying to get one off ebay because I have a $100 GC there
I wish there was the Rosewill one on ebay. The cheapest good mechanical keyboard with Blue or brown keys I've found were the Choc minis. I heard the BWs have lots of quality issues so I don't think that's a good option.

Under $100 is abit hard. Getting a used board should be possible for that price, look for filcos, das, maybe ducky (or even a model M if you are feeling oldschool).

Keep an eye out for a good deal and check on the net or post a question here (or geekhack if its too obscure) to see if the keyboard is worth it.

Is ~$80 shipped for a new Rosewill RK-9000 good? I hear they're practically rebranded Filcos and that the manufacturer of Filcos took part in making the Rosewills too.

Yeh should be great. Is it the new one with a removable cable? Because there is also a older one without a removable.

Either way its a good deal, but if its the removable cable one its a great deal. Of course as long as it is has the switches you want.

But its $50 !
Thats half the price of any other board, a frigging great deal.

I just got the 6gv2 today and I can honestly say it's my favorite part of my new computer.

Better than the new graphics card and processor, better than my new dual 22' monitors, better than even my new Galaxy s II. If you want a new cherry black keyboard this one is the way to go (:

NCIX is also selling the Blackwidow for 50 bucks on boxing day. However, it is in-store only with limited quantities.

Wait no more!

So the QPAD MK-50 - Cherry red switches

Feel: At first when i started using it i felt good, but not that epic that i had imagined it in my mind. But after playing for a couple of hours i was hooked. The feel is really good, and your hands/fingers don't get fatigued at all . It's really comforting!

So what about the other features?

The height adjustable feature is a function i appreciate and they are really sturdy so you can put them in any position you want, I settled for something in the middle ranges.

The wrist rest is comfortable and easy to put on/off! It has a really nice feel.

I can't comment on the Full N-key rollovers because I'm not sure if I need it . But it's a good feature nonetheless.

The Media keys are good to have, but they are kinda standard for keyboards.

With the keyboard you also get 4 orange key caps and a tool to remove key caps from the keyboard easily, makes cleaning it alot easier!

So overall you don't really get any ''cool features''. But you get a sturdy and good keyboard with great feel that is really comfortable to use! And you do get everything that you need. I absolutely think It's a keyboard worth buying.

In a rating i would give it 4/5 - A great keyboard for a reasonable price!

Oh if you have any other questions, just write them here or pm me and I'll answer them as best as I can

Hi TL,
I'm going to buy my first mech keyboard. Firstly I had problem to choose between MX browns or blues. I decided to go with brown ones, but I'm not certain yet. Many ppl on forums says that brown switches gives less feedback than blue ones. I want to feel tactile feel clearly. Can anyone describe differences between blues and browns according to the feel only ?
Secondly I need to know differences between Ducky DK1008 and DK9008. I only know that they are all full sized keyboard and 9008 got 4 more multimedia keys. Is this all ? i dont think so, because the price is 40 $ higher for 9008.

Thanks in advance , and sorry about my english

Hello, I'm looking to buy a mech board now, and I've pretty much set myself on brown switches. Since the BW Stealth isn't available, I'm left with a choice between the Rosewill RK-9000BR, and the Das Professional Silent.

With the Das student discount, they're about the same price, and I guess the only other deciding factor financially is that I have around $70 in Amazon credit if I get the Rosewill there.

Any advice between the two?

Blues I would say are the most tactile and give the most feedback. They are good for gaming. Browns are the same except ppl prefer them for gaming and typing over blues. The ducky9008 has multimedia function keys thats the only difference. Most dk9008's are the shine editions which are backlit and thats why they are usually $40-60 more because each key has a LED under it for backlighting.

Browns/Blues is a toss up but I would go browns

imo the blues feel way better, more crisp than the browns. Browns feel kind of sandy or gritty at the actuation point whereas the blues are more sharp, if that makes any sense.

But of course the blues make a significant amount of noise, so if thats a concern then go for browns.

I think the 9008 is the backlit one. (guy above me answered this better).

The Das case plastic is shiny so gets dirty (fingerprints etc) more quickly than the Rosewill, and the Das has usb ports while the Rosewill does not, thats about all I can think of.
Both are good choices.

Anyone able to give some personal feedback on the Razer BW (the cheap one, no backlight). The in-store box lets you press the arrow keys, but after using the Lycosa for the past 3 1/2 years I'm not exactly sure I want to switch! Asking for specific feedback on this one as it does seem to be the cheapest of the bunch...
