From the Mechanical keyboard guide:

Cherry MX Blue switches are the best cherry switch for typing.

Cherry MX Brown switches are considered a middle ground between typing and "gaming" switches.

Blue switches ''click'' much loader. Brown switches require slighty less force to press down.

But I've come to a understanding that it is very personal.

I'm stuck between blues and browns myself. I don't like my blacks at all. Brown seems to be the most recommended for sc2 by a long shot as for what I've read.

I'm stuck between red and brown ^^. You should check out red switches, they are recommend by many. The reason they aren't as known is because they we're rarer before. But lately they have been on a upswing
Furthermore, I think the Collosi should be removed! (Zorgaz -Terran/AbrA-Random/Zorg-Dota2) Guineapigs <3

What's a good mechanical keyboard for $100 or less with Cherry MX Black or Brown keys (no Blue or Red please). Thanks. I can get the Filco Majestouch 2 for ~$100 but I want to know if there are better deals out there.

A new Filco for $100 would be a fantastic deal.
Filco is like the BMW of the keyboards.

Well it's sort of new. It's been used very lightly but apparently it comes in original packaging. So ~$100 for that or ~$100 for a 6gv2 or Choc Mini. Do you still thing the Filco would be my best bet?

umm I guess it depends on where/who you get it from and the condition its in.
You can buy a new Rosewill for $100 and its basically a rebranded filco if you want.
It doesn't have the same brand name prestige as a Filco but performance wise it should be the same.

I personally prefer tenkeyless over both full sized and mini so maybe get a leopold?
CM storm's will reach US in a few weeks.

I hate the 6gv2 because of the ugly ass enter key so i never even considered that keyboard.

Oh ok. I'm now just torn between a barely used Filco or a brand new, unused Choc Mini. I can get both for about the same price (Choc is $5 cheaper but arrives a couple days faster). Someone help me decide Both use Black keys which is what I want.

Well thats easy bro. Do you want a standard layout keyboard (the filco) or do you want a more compact design (choc mini)?
There isn't much difference I know of in quality etc between them (keys are better quality on Choc mini), they are just very different designs.

edit: actually the keys seem to be far thicker and better plastic on the choc mini than filco. I don't have any high quality caps so I don't know how much of a difference it makes though ive never had a problem with my filco keys, maybe someone else can chime in?

Some sc2 players like the compact design because the F1-12 keys are right above the number keys and easier to use. But its really up to your opinion.

Well I heard Black keys can often get too stiff for gaming so I actually might spring for Brown keys because I'm sure my family wouldn't appreciate hearing the noisy Blue keys. I'm not really a huge fan of Mini keyboards from the pics I've seen
but I'm not against them either (they look pretty sexy). But ~$110 for a keyboard is a hard pill to swallow. Are there any cheaper Brown keyed keyboards of similar quality?

Earplugs!

I'm not completely against the sound, but my family will be. I don't think it would be very convenient for them to wear earplugs around the house all day, and I don't think I want to relocate my PC...

Have been a lurker for the past week, enjoying the debate, only skipped a couple of pages there mostly towards the latest....
I received my Cherry G80-3000 today. Loved the feel, sound and typing was a joy.

Though its now on its way back as the sound would mean I'd be homeless!

A Corsair K60 is on its way now though; abit disappointed that the keys aren't all mx red.

Maybe should've went for the Filco browns, but we'll see how the Corsair pans out...

Pictures to follow I guess

Which MX Blue KB do you recommend for under $100. Trying to get one off ebay because I have a $100 GC there
I wish there was the Rosewill one on ebay. The cheapest good mechanical keyboard with Blue or brown keys I've found were the Choc minis. I heard the BWs have lots of quality issues so I don't think that's a good option.

So I just got a Blackwidow for my birthday, my first mechanical keyboard, and let me tell you it's pretty awesome to listen to while playing/typing (MX Blues ftw). My questions is, typically, how long does it take to get used to them? I find that my hand is a little more sore than usual after gaming session and even typing to some extent. I've heard it takes about a week to adjust but I want to know everyone's opinion on adjustability

depends how often you use it. Took me less than 8 hours to get used to my fc500r. Your hands will be sore because your bottoming out on your new switches which is normal.

Under $100 is abit hard. Getting a used board should be possible for that price, look for filcos, das, maybe ducky (or even a model M if you are feeling oldschool).

Keep an eye out for a good deal and check on the net or post a question here (or geekhack if its too obscure) to see if the keyboard is worth it.

I got my QPD MK-80 with blue cherry mx switches and I love my keyboard! The blue switches makes a lot of noise so if you live with a room mate I'd say get something a bit less loud. The QPAD MK-80 costs about 140$ so it's a bit pricey but the quality makes up for it.

Is ~$80 shipped for a new Rosewill RK-9000 good? I hear they're practically rebranded Filcos and that the manufacturer of Filcos took part in making the Rosewills too.

I have decided this year to upgrade my Logitech G110 with my Christmas money. I am looking for a really good mechanical keyboard, except I don't really know anything about them. I am looking at the following:
1) Razer Blackwidow Ultimate
2) Steelseries 6Gv2
3) Das model S Professional
Basically right now I'm still looking around, but i'm leaning towards the Razer. I have a razer mouse, headset, and controller, so I might as well get the keyboard complete my collection. Does anyone have any input or other suggestions?
Edit: The blackwidow is about as much as I would like to spend, but if its a little extra its still an option.

@FoeHamr look at the Rosewill RK-9000s at Newegg. They have all the switch types, no frills, and work really well so you can even just pick the type of switches you want for the same keyboard.
Almost everything that you read should be taken with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will go with the Rosewell. It seems to be really highly rated and looks pretty good.
My only question is the switches. I looked up a guide on switches, but I want to make sure I understand it. The different switches change how much force is required to make the key activate. Black Switches are the best for gaming because they require the most force, while blue is best for typing because it requires the least, with Cherry somewhere in between. Is there really that big of a difference in the switches? I'm looking for a keyboard to primarily game on, but will be starting college in the Fall so I want to be able to type on it comfortably as well. Does that mean the Cherry switches are my best bet?
Edit: I meant Brown switches. You guys knew what I meant though.

I'm selling a quickfire rapid (tenkeyless) mx red with o-rings preinstalled if someone is interested.

I'd say mx browns are the best overall switch (soft tactile) and reds/blues based on preference on tactility (linear or extra tactile).

Rosewill is actually probably a better choice than the 3 keyboards you were originally looking at. For gaming & school go with the mx brown switches. I have a bunch of keyboards with mx reds, blues, and browns; I prefer the browns for typing and Starcraft out of all of them.
