thanks for the link! i just got my choc mini in the mail today. even though i only used this keyboard for a day, it's freaking sweet! There are no problems yet but i will update if i find anything. i'm so glad i didn't drop $150+ on a filco.

ps. i got the brown switches if anyone is wondering. the keys feel crisp and it gives off an orgasmic sound!

It's good to see that these keyboards are easier to acquire than when i got mine!

I've had my choc mini since January, and I am happy to say that it is still going strong! The best keyboard I've ever had the pleasure of using and I won't be replacing it until it breaks.. and I have a feeling it will outlast me.

I also have the brown switches, which was a hard choice to make at the time because I had never used a mechanical keyboard before. I did weeks of research looking at all the switch types, reading / watching reviews, browsing hundreds of forum topics.

The only thing I might do is get some custom keycaps. But I cannot find any choc minis that have been customzed in this way, and I don't want to take a leap and buy the keycaps if there is a chance that they won't fit. (By "won't fit" I mean may sit unevenly, as the choc mini seems to have different height keys on some of the rows compared to "normal" mech keyboards. Though please correct me if I am wrong)

So I have some questions to anyone out there that may know.
Is there anyone who has a choc mini and has custom keycaps?
If so, where did you get them and do they sit evenly?
Would the keycaps from http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/ fit well on a choc mini?

Thanks

Alright, after a bit of research, i changed my preference to mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX red, with standard layout. THESE ARE SO FREAKING RARE!!!!
Does anyone know any retail stores around Eastern Suburb Sydney area sell any keyboard like that? I prefer buying at retail stores than order it only because i don't trust those postage, last time i ordered a t-shirt and they left it outside my mailbox, lucky no one took it.

No idea what kind of a store it is or where it is or what the layout is but that's a keyboard you'd probably like

Received my Filco Majestouch 2 (brown switches) a few days ago and oh god it's amazing. Coming from a Razer Arctosa (which is a terrible keyboard), it's now such a pleasure to type and play, love everything about it (even the sound!).
Was a bit expensive but definitely worth it!!!

chances are you won't find anything like the option listed above. You will probably find the standard g6v2, blackwidow.

most cherry mx keycaps are universal. There are very few keyboards that don't allow the standard.

I don't know any stores around the Eastern Suburbs or the city that sell mechanical keyboards (apart from the odd Razer Blackwidow) and there are only a few stores in Australia which have a decent range of mechanical keyboards. I'd just order from PCCaseGear because it would be cheaper, but if you were deadset on buying within Sydney, your best bet would be AusPCMarket in Auburn. However they're not really a "store" as much as a pickup warehouse (you order online and pick up) and atm, the only MX Red board they carry is a Corsair Vengeance, which is more expensive than a Leopold and has rubber dome f-keys. In addition, AusPCMarket also includes shipping in all their prices, which means that even if you'd be picking up, you'd still be paying for shipping.

What's a good mechanical keyboard for $100 or less with Cherry MX Black or Brown keys (no Blue or Red please). Thanks. I can get the Filco Majestouch 2 for ~$100 but I want to know if there are better deals out there.

A new Filco for $100 would be a fantastic deal.
Filco is like the BMW of the keyboards.

Well it's sort of new. It's been used very lightly but apparently it comes in original packaging. So ~$100 for that or ~$100 for a 6gv2 or Choc Mini. Do you still thing the Filco would be my best bet?

umm I guess it depends on where/who you get it from and the condition its in.
You can buy a new Rosewill for $100 and its basically a rebranded filco if you want.
It doesn't have the same brand name prestige as a Filco but performance wise it should be the same.

I personally prefer tenkeyless over both full sized and mini so maybe get a leopold?
CM storm's will reach US in a few weeks.

I hate the 6gv2 because of the ugly ass enter key so i never even considered that keyboard.

Hello,

ill start by first saying that i am a mechanical keyboard nub. I recently bought the blackwidow because it was ez to get and i like it so far but i think i would rather get a much more standard looking keyboard. I went through the thread and it seems like filco keyboards look great but they are hard to find. either way im sorta lost TT, i looked up the different types of keys and it seems like black/brown keys are best for me. Thanks for the help, a link to a good keyboard *i live in US* would be godsend. Price doesnt really matter.

Oh ok. I'm now just torn between a barely used Filco or a brand new, unused Choc Mini. I can get both for about the same price (Choc is $5 cheaper but arrives a couple days faster). Someone help me decide Both use Black keys which is what I want.

Well thats easy bro. Do you want a standard layout keyboard (the filco) or do you want a more compact design (choc mini)?
There isn't much difference I know of in quality etc between them (keys are better quality on Choc mini), they are just very different designs.

edit: actually the keys seem to be far thicker and better plastic on the choc mini than filco. I don't have any high quality caps so I don't know how much of a difference it makes though ive never had a problem with my filco keys, maybe someone else can chime in?

Some sc2 players like the compact design because the F1-12 keys are right above the number keys and easier to use. But its really up to your opinion.

Why do so many people prefer brown switches over blue for sc2?

From the Mechanical keyboard guide:

Cherry MX Blue switches are the best cherry switch for typing.

Cherry MX Brown switches are considered a middle ground between typing and "gaming" switches.

Blue switches ''click'' much loader. Brown switches require slighty less force to press down.

But I've come to a understanding that it is very personal.

Furthermore, I think the Collosi should be removed! (Zorgaz -Terran/AbrA-Random/Zorg-Dota2) Guineapigs <3

reds for sc2 are quite nice. Ive used a mx blues for sc2, too much noise @ 300apm T_T, never tried browns, but I would say using alps 65g actuation force same as blacks. Reds are by far my favorite for gaming.

I'm stuck between blues and browns myself. I don't like my blacks at all. Brown seems to be the most reccomended for sc2 by a long shot as for what I've read.
