Guess what I found in the storage closet of my office today?

SICK hp mechanical keyboard, used but still in good shape, I looked up the model number and apparently it's from 1999. Hot damn, what a way to start the workweek. I'll post pics when I get a chance, probably later in this week.

Needless to say, I hustled that out of the office so fast that I don't think I've ever walked out faster.

check under the caps and see what switch it uses. prob buckling spring or topre.

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. My girlfriend's brother is asking for a logitech gaming keyboard for Christmas, and I can't stand the thought of allowing him to purchase a membrane keyboard. What is the cheapest possible mechanical keyboard out there? Preferably brown switches, if possible.

I can't tell by just looking at it currently, I'm not an expert in these things. I just took the caps off at work and was pumped when I saw the mechanical switches, and was amazed at how it felt, even considering how old it was.

I'll likely post pics tomorrow to get the opinion of the fine people in this thread.

Black widow might be suitable if he is into macro buttons which it does suggest so because he wanted one of those G keyboards.

Rosewill is $100 on newegg

They are both blue switches though

Ducky DK1008 (brown) is $80 on tank guys

Having used a Black Widow myself, the macro buttons on the Black Widow, especially M5, is outright stupid. unless you actually look at the keyboard and type shit, then you will mistake Ctrl for M5 and Ctrl for Alt, they are placed wayyyy too closed together.

And yes, DONT YOU DARE LET HIM USE A LOGITECH GAMING KEYBOARD. I have a G110, and the rubber domes are just terrible, they are ridiculously mushy and the keys are smaller than usual.

I have the black widow and you actually get used to the m5 being there and the esc being off and the f keys being off. It does take a little bit of time though. Razer also has the BlackWidow stealth which are brown switches but they never seem to be available to buy.

Here is my problem:
I want to be able to use the key block on the right (arrow keys, home/end,etc) WITHOUT taking my hands off the rest position (home row? index fingers on F and J I mean).

You can setup custom key combos via software, but it's usually impossible to find combinations that are both "good" (intuitive/quick/easy to press) and unused in all of the software you're likely to be using with your keyboard.

How should I go about this?

edit: I just found out that there is an almost never used meta key (Applications) and that you can remap caps lock to it. sweet!

i just returned my blackwidow for some other mech keyboard [2kro, yea no] but im using my g110, its like typing on dried out solid crap
i have to bottom each key and it feels so sluggist, ugh

not sure if i want to get the bw stealth, or something else, i do like backlit keys :\

any recomendations? just have a backlight, full keyboard [no tenkeyless], and layout like the blackwidow [proper enter key, proper backspace]

Question to people that got Razer Blackwidow Ultimate (or not ultimate). Does this keyboard got little rubber surface on keys? Like for example Razer Lycosa (Im using it right now) because I want to buy a keyboard with normal plastic keys because my rubber keys on lycosa after 2 years totally wear off and keyboard looks like crap.

Also did any of the you did have any kind of problems with the keyboard, because my lycosa is bad sometimes keyborads shutdown in the middle of the game and the only fix to this is repluging.

Well Razer keyboards tend to have poor build quality so if you don't like problems I'm not sure why you'd go with them o.O They're just for looking cool and flashy lights.

So I'm thinking of getting a mechanical keyboard but I'm torn between 2 models. What would you guys recommend between a Filco Majestouch-2, and a Zowie Celeritas, and why? (Brown switches all the way!)
I play Protoss, because lets face it, who doesn't love hyper-advanced Egyptian ninja-aliens that kill people with lightsabres attached to both arms?

I have found what appears to be the only keyboard on the market with an included "nipple mouse":

http://pckeyboards.stores.yahoo.net/en104wh.html

It is 20-30% cheaper than a filco majestouch (considering currency and import duties) and it uses buckling springs.

Has anyone tried buckling springs? What is your opinion on them?

He should get a Zowie if he wanted bragging rights, then he would say that Flash helped make that board.

for gaming I wouldn't recommend them, for typing yes.

i hated that on the lycosa, the blackwidow has solid keys and not the rubbery ones
