i hope someone can help me out.
just got a cherry g80-3000 but i'm rather disappointed with it. the bigger keys are a lot harder to push and some keys result in a tinny sound that is really annoying.
so i'm gonna send this one back and i'm looking for a decent keyboard with good build quality.
the Das 4 Professional looks good but it's pretty expensive so it would be my last resort if there is nothing cheaper but still has solid build quality. also a filco would be a possibility, but i already have one and wanted to have something else if possible (i love my filco though).

Location: Germany
Any keyboards you currently have in mind: Ducky Zero DK2108, Das Keyboard 4 Professional, Lioncast LK20
Price:up to 150€
Backlighting: No
Size: full size (105) but still compact
Use (games/ programming/ typing etc): typing
USB/ PS2: preferably USB but PS/2 also ok
KRO: just the regular KRO ?
Macro keys (yes/ no): No
Media keys (yes/ no): not necessary
Layout (US/ ANSI, etc): German
Switch type: BLUE

how would you guys solve this current dilemma i have
im using brown switches at home atm and they felt great, but im spending less time on the computer at home and a lot more time on my computer at work (which uses standard microsoft keyboards) and i have to say im slowly getting annoyed by my mechanical keyboard now.
maybe its cause im so used to using rubber keyboards from when i was a kid, or maybe its just the feel of the keyboard
i know that now one of the things that bugs me about my current keyboard (as with probably most mechanical keyboards), is that the keys are so high up. in other words, they protrude out of the board a fair bit as opposed to a lot of older keyboards where the whole board is generally a lot more flat (keys included).
is there any mechanical keyboard that looks kind of like a rubber one where the keys dont protrude as much out of the board?
or would switching switches to red or something help at all?

Maybe get o-rings for your keyboard? They would make the distance to bottom out a bit shorter, like it is on a rubber dome.

maybe. im not sure if the problem is the bottoming out or the fact that the keys cause my hand to rest at a slightly higher angle and it is making it uncomfortable

To give an update, i bought a keyboard with greetech switches and if you are used to cherry switches, dont ever ever buy a product with greetechs. It feels so crap, inconsistent feeling over the whole board. Never buy a keyboard with these crap switches. NEVER EVER!

What keyboard and what color switches please? I've actually heard very good things about GreeTech switches. I've only looked into browns but I heard from a very reliable source though they are about ~10-15 grams heavier to actuate than MX browns, but they feel much more tactile. No complaints whatsoever about inconsistency or anything like that.

I'd say if you are looking at off brand switches though Gaterons seem to be the way to go, in particular if you are looking at linear switches. I'm unfortunately slacking on these and haven't tried them in a keyboard just yet, (I have them just looking for a TKL plate at a reasonable price) but from everything I've heard and from trying them in a tester they are better than linear MX. They not only have more weight options 35g up to a whacky 170g or something, but are unanimously said to be much smoother than MX.

It was the Das Keyboard professional for Mac. The keyboard was also warped and the keycaps were thin . Really bad product in general and not worth the money.

Hi,
Where can I buy custom keycaps online, or blank sets? Probably need to be shipped within 1.5 weeks in the US.

so anyone got any recommendations for the question i posted before?
a mechanical keyboard that doesnt exactly have the design of a typical mechanical keyboard

the current keyboard im using at work is this
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-au/p/wired-keyboard-600/ANB-00025
cheap, standard keyboard but the biggest plus for me with this is the design. kind of flat and has those things on the backside which raise the keyboard. the keys are low as well which means my hand can rest on the desk and not have to tilt my wrist up so much to press keys, which is my current problem with my mechanical keyboard at home

Just get a wrist wrest or a scissor switch, basically what's on laptops. I guess you could try different profile keys like Cherry or SP's DSA which is a non sculpted profile instead of OEM if you feel like spending money, but honestly it's unlikely to help much. I'm not entirely sure what the problem is since you weren't very clear. If you mean you dislike the key travel, learn not to bottom out at least as hard, or o-rings are also an option. If you are having hand or wrist pains then something is wrong with your setup or posture.

I'd at least look into other caps before buying if you still have the time. WASD caps are not the greatest. Thin UV printed and coated ABS. Though they are the only company offering personalized custom sets so if that's what you want then go for it. But you can pick up double shots, blank PBT, etc for cheaper than WASD is doing them. Heck you can buy double shot PBT for the same price, which at least when talking about plastic is the most durable caps possible. Either way all of which will outlast them by a significant amount of time. pimpmykeyboard.com mechanicalkeyboards.com elitekeyboards.com There's quite a few on ebay as well.

ABS

plastic type is probably my biggest regret with buying mech board, the keycaps on this one drive me craaaaaazy now from being shiny/slippery from oil, sweat etc even though i keep a damp cloth on my desk and clean it very often

Personally, I now have several sets of keycaps manufactured by signature plastics/PMK and haven't had any issues with stems, fitting, scratches etc.

In terms of ABS as opposed to PBT I definitely feel like it makes a difference, but it's ultimately down to preference.

Thanks, I will look into those alternatives. Anyway I dont really have enough time in the US to wait for shipping so now it's about which site ship internationally at decent price.

edit: actually found a local shop selling blank sets for $60. but dont have purple. And they dont do custom prints either

That's unfortunate. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier.

As far as I know WASD are the only ones doing custom printing on a single customer basis. Except maybe Signature Plastics, but here's what they say themselves " Keep in mind that since we do not typically inventory double shot keycaps, it is very expensive to set up and manufacture one single set of keycaps. Typically this cost would be around $750." Also keep in mind that 750 is for legends they already have, they need to make new molds for custom legends so add another 25 dollars per custom key. lol

Realistically: Try Sim Lim, there are a few shops there selling them. In particular Xtreme Solution. I know they have caps, but no idea how big the selection would be. Probably decent though, they carry virtually every high end brand of keyboard.

Another option might be find a friend who has family or friends in China. Taobao has tons of options for dirt cheap.

Korea might also be option. But I'd only recommend it if you're looking for some very rare authentic sets, it will not be cheap by any means. The market place on OTD.kr is one of the easier places to get them.

Thanks. Yeah the local shop I mentioned is indeed Xtreme Solution, but I am looking for alternative options before commit to buying from them. Not that they are bad, I already got 2 keyboards from them, just that more options is always better.

Also $750 T_T, I may as well buy blanks and some permanent marker to draw myself XD

hi there,

I'm sure this question is asked quite often, so I apologise in advance. What is generally considered the best quiet mechanical keyboard? A few years ago when I was looking into it, the Ducky or the Das Keyboard Professional Model S Quiet were the best options, but most places don't sell the Das any more. Are there better options available now? I work in a fairly crowded office, so anything loud is out of the question. Thanks!

They're using cherry mx brown switches, nothing special about them. Pretty much everyone is, though you can add o-rings to them to remove part of the noise

Your not going to find rainbow caps in ISO. The closest I've ever seen was someone who bought the keycool rainbow set in ANSI and then bought an entire other Ducky set in pink to get the enter and extra ISO keys needed. [image loading]

For blanks I'm pretty sure the best you can do is Maxkeyboard. They have blank ISO sets in black, blue, brown, white, red, and grey for 20 USD, or the same customization as WASD (in blanks anyway and in those colors I mentioned) for 25. Or WASD themselves for ~50.

Signature Plastics is out of stock on all 6.25 yellow space bars in DCS which is the option you can have given they only make ISO enters in that profile. So I guess no luck there either.

Unfortunately your in a situation where you have to compromise on what you want, not change caps, or spend quite a bit as in equal to or more than the actual keyboard cost to get them. Sucks to say ISO just isn't worth it to the vast majority of keycap companies so your quite limited.

Or tl;dr no to both
