On another note: is there anything special about the Leopold FC500R that would justify it's cost being 40€ more than a Qpad MK-50 or a CM Storm QuickFire ?

Its better quality than the Qpad, and a little bit better than the CM keyboards. But definitely not 40 euro more.

Could you explain the "little bit better" please.

CM keyboards are higher quality than Qpad keyboards o:

after looking around prior to my pruchase (qpad mk80) i often got recommended expensive basic ones cause of quality. tbh i dont know what they are talking about. the switches are same quality evrywhere, thats what matters most. the general build quality seems overall very high for mechanical keyboards and they mostly seem tank like compared to evry usual keyboard youve seen around.

seems like you pay more for super tanky boards cause you could throw them out of the window and the street would be damaged instead of they keyboard. question is how often do you do that, is that worth paying 50%+ more and wouldnt you have to pay dmg done to the street?

i mean my old logitech 20€ keyboard survived many years of daily usage just fine. my new qpad is way sturdier and like 3times as heavy. do i need a keyboard that endures nuclear winter?

also often the "not so quality" complaints are about macro/media keys beeing flimsy or stuff like the qpads wristrest clickinbits maybe beeing not super durable, but usually that is stuff the tanklike expensive ones dont even have.

point is, do some research, if there isnt anything hidden problem with some worthy board the "build quality" is easily high above normal keyboards and it will die way earlier to spillage or dirt then the case etc ending up broken.

Nicer case and keycaps usually. I don't actually know because I don't have a CM or a Leopold, so I am just judging off reputation.

Well your totally wrong because CM quickfire is the highest quality you can get. It has costar stabalizers which leopolds don't which in my opinion is huge when picking a mechanical keyboard. Honestly these mechanical keyboards are so overpriced because it has to be imported from Asia usually when you can just get a CM that is made in NA and get it for way cheaper =/

CM just isn't the highest quality you can get. You can however make an argument that spending more for a filco etc is inefficient because you gain only small margins of quality.

You do have a point about the stabilisers, but lots of people do just fine with cherry stabilisers and if its a first mech keyboard you are unlikely to notice.

I did tell him that the leopold was overpriced, but here in Aus they are a great deal.

Yeah I would definitely get my hands on a Leopold FC700R if I could.

Really nice with PBT keycaps and that grey version looks supergood.

I have the FC700R with MX Red. Only thing I didn't like was that the keys became shiny. Even after cleaning them (thinking it could be gunk or fat) they still remained the same. Must be some sort of layer on the top that is easily shed off?

Also: The keys seemed to not fit when I placed them back to the same key they were sitting on. They felt loose. I have seen others complain about it. But it did not affect my games at all. It felt like the keys didn't sit the exact way they were from the package.

Here's how I look at quality:

Cherry MX keys? Good.
Metal backplate? Good.

Done. Beyond that. There isn't much reason to spend more unless you want macros, back lighting or another feature.

Take a look at either Noppoo Choc Mini or CM Storm Quickfire Rapid.

i would like to try a mechanical keyboard , i would like to choose between Cooler Master QuickFire Pro Red and QPAD MX-50.
The cons of the cooler master is the lack of wriste pad . So i might consider buying the QPAD but i don't know if it worth it ?

Any idea what keyboard Soulkey was using during GSL today with the yellow keycaps?

what do you guys think about the: CM Storm QuickFire TK

http://www.cmstorm.com/en/products/keyboards/quickfiretk/

its as small as a tenkeyless but has both options (arrows or Num Pad) - not at the same time though.

it can have all MX switchs (blue brown red etc)
I am quite interested.

it also has N-Key Roll Over in USB Mode too...(not quite sure whats better: 1000Hz USB Polling or interrupt mode PS/2 Mode - both N-Keyrollover?!)

the thing I dont like though is the area with the num lock lights... but thats only looks, and in EUrope we have not so many TKL sized Mechnaical Keyboards for a lower price we can choose from.

one let down is the low weight - only ~500g

but it seems to be stable enough according to this video:

--

anyway I ordered a version with MX Red ones (currently using MX BLues) - so I may let you know what I encounter during Starcraft playing with this one...

So I see this thread hasn't changed much lol. CM still seems to be the number one choice. Anyways just passing by to say I still love my Ducky Shine II; 3 months going strong!

For the poster above the only difference between the TK and other mechanical keyboards would be the format. The zero key is smaller than normal, but other than that I think it'd be easy to adjust to if you're used to TKL already. The Razer Marauder had a very similar if not exact same layout. I'm not sure how practical it is, but I love the concept nonetheless.

USB and PS/2 with the NKRO ability doesn't mean much if you aren't hitting more than 6 keys simultaneously.

Weight may be issue as you said, but I'm willing to bet it has good grips to compensate.
