Ok so 3 days ago I bought CM QF rapid with reds. My previous keyboard was tt meka with black, i switched it because after one year I decided that the feel of blacks really pisses me off.
But apart from that the cm qf is just lightyears ahead of tt meka, the overall build quality is much better, keycaps don't feel like being made out of cheap plastic (not mentioning that keycaps on my tt meka were a bit loose - sometimes they would just fall off during gaming). Also the "body" of qf is much better. The only cons of qf that I've found are very stiff cable, and that somehow my (left) alt-tab doesn't work anymore lol.

I wish I've never bought meka srsly, same cost but the quality of qf is a different league

that's all

You also want to make sure that they are pretty soft, I got some 70O (or was it 70A) and they were barely softer than the plastic so I didnt gain much sound reduction.

actually I didn't bought them for sound reduction (but they did reduce it quite a bit ) but rather for bottoming-out height reduction.

Ordered HPE tenkeyless today, I can't wait to get it. I should really sell my fullsize Filco and 6Gv2, since I really don't use them.

I would recommend Qtan. Reliable seller who's catered to the geekhack community for awhile.

Hi everyone,

I don't have more the 100$-120$ to spend in a keyboard and i'm looking for a simple, regular layout and not cherry black switch keyboard. Living in europe, i finaly find the qtan5370's ebay store and there is several interesting price for mech board.
Here my question : what is the quality of the HPE and Keycool keayboard (compared to a G6v2 or a zowie celeritas for exemple)
Also, do you guys have informations about the ducky 2018, it's selled in the ebay store but no pictures of the keyboard and i can't find information about it...

Sry for that if this question have been already asked but i don't want to read 243 pages :p

No idea about the Ducky

Here is some info on the others. Cheap chinese knockoff, probably have troubles with the keycaps legends wearing off etc. But might be a good choice if its cheap enough

Qtan says this:

I have it in stock already.

If you in somewhere has easy access to CM storm, CM might be better but I am quite sure this one has at least the same built quality as CM

As something of a keyboard fanatic, I'd like to share a project and review with you guys.

I got an IBM Model F/AT in the mail a few days ago. It looks like this:

I also got this:

So, what's the logical course of action? Take it apart, of course!

The metal plate on which the keys themselves (top left) rest was ridiculously rusty, as you can probably tell. Inspired by epiguru's project of the same nature, I endeavored to do the same thing. So after twenty minutes of sanding, a phosphoric acid bath and neutralization, and two coats of rustproof spray, this was the result:

I also did some simple rewiring to install the (pinned) Teensy 2.0 in order to convert it to an NKRO, USB, fully customizable keyboard:

Now with that out of the way, I could convert the archaic AT layout to something more ANSI-like:

With the springs installed:

A close-up of the result HaaTa's Big Backspace Mod (much thanks to my dead Model M!):

And the final product, converted to the carpalx QFMLWY layout with some customization:

(The arrows pointing to Tab and the right Ctrl are Alt keys, makes Alt-Tabbing a breeze!)

---

As for the feel of the board, frankly, it's typing heaven. The sound is like a cross between a Model M and Cherry Blue, and all of the complaints levied against Unicomps and Model M's are far less apparent. The actuation force feels significantly lower than my Unicomp (65 vs 95 grams, measured in nickels), leading to a much smoother but still utterly deliberate typing experience. I'm in love with this board, and hope it outlasts me

---

FOR THE FUTURE:

- secure the Teensy chip better (it's tightly dangling but not secure)

- add real Alt keys by drilling holes in the metal plate and fitting a smaller Space Bar in

- find pin-stabilized "+" and "Enter" keys on the Numpad

I am looking for a backlit mechanical with Brown, Red, or clear switches, that is well made and has PBT keycaps. I prefer doubleshots as well.

The deck legend seems to be the closest to what i want but the flat profile of the keys scares me.. (i like keyboards where the keys form 'steps' if you look at the various rows from the side). I'd really love to get a ducky shine but none of them have PBT keycaps. (yet). Does anyone know if these are forthcoming? Should i just wait? It seems like mechanical keyboards are picking up steam and as 2013 rolls forward maybe something closer to what i want will be out soon..

Backlit PBTs are pretty rare. Haven't heard anything about Ducky coming out with anything, but maybe you can pick up aftermarket caps like these.

You could also just get regular PBT caps and rely on the leakage of light around them.

I wish they started making the "year of the rabbit" limited editions from Ducky. I would buy 2 of them immediately. Do anyone know if there are any left at any stores online? I think it is the perfect keyboard for me.
