new question what the heck does 1080p up conversion mean for a dvd player and how would the quality compare to playing the dvd on like my computer using just a standard portable dvd drive for my computer or like a ps4/xbox one. Is there any point to getting one? If you're on e.g. a PC then any decent software player can handle the scaling by itself. | ||

Specifically the drivers won't install. Well they will install but after re-starting they don't work. In device manager I get the following error "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)." I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. Deleting / cleaning the old drivers and reinstalling multiple times. I even wen't the somewhat extreme route of re-formatting Windows 10 and doing a clean driver install but nothing has worked. Could it be anything other than a faulty GPU? The computer boots up fine with it installed and it outputs a signal over HDMI. Lights and fans seem OK. I want to make sure it's not something I'm doing wrong before I try and send it back. Thanks. | ||

Well, there could be something wrong with your main board. The pcie slot might be broken, or something similar. Do you have another PC where you could test that GPU? Also, did you install the Asus drivers? Or stock Radeon? Try the other ones if you didn't try both. Also make sure you thoroughly removed any xfx driver files that might still be hanging around. Windows might somehow be using the wrong driver. | ||

Yeah I'm starting to think it might be the PCIE slot, although I hope not. I was originally only trying the newest AMD drivers but have since tried the 2 year old ASUS ones as well with no luck. I think I'm getting pretty good at removing the broken drivers each time to give each new try a clean slate. I use 'Driver Fusion' and 'Display Driver Uninstaller' with Windows in safe mode to remove the old drivers and have disabled Windows from automatically installing/repairing drivers at startup. After this process the device manager no longer shows any AMD display adapter drivers, just some generic Microsoft one. Unfortunately I don't have another PC or known good graphics card handy to do the testing that would show me 100% where the problem is. Looks like I might have to try and call in some favours. | ||

So, i would assume that this means that my CPU Fan is broken. The only problem with that is that sometimes, it spins up for half a second, and is displayed as working in Bios for that half-second. Which i assume means that it is apparently not completely broken, but somehow not correctly detected. Any ideas? And if i have to get a new CPU fan, what information do i need to figure out to see if it fits onto my cooler? | ||

Easiest solution: unscrew the fan, take it to your local PC repair shop and buy the same size. When I worked at one of those (about 15 years ago), we had plenty on stock and they were cheap. | ||

It's probably a very standard size like 92mm or 120mm. If you know the name of the CPU cooler you could alternatively find the size with a 3 second google. Pretty cheap, easy fix when you have the new fan in hand! | ||

Interesting tidbit, i noticed that if i don't do too demanding stuff (Basically, just browsing and watching youtube), my CPU stayed at below 60°C completely without a fan, just with the heatsink. And apparently i can't last a sunday without my PC. | ||

you can technically run even without a fan 24/7 under full cpu loads but it requires specifically set up configs to do so CPU loads are a lot hotter than idle temps | ||
